arcane spellcasting
Does arcane mean wizard and sorcerer only, or does this include clerics?

I want to try out a cleric, but don't want to go blackguard or torn route, wanted to try pale master.

Divine is wisdom based,arcane is intel/charisma based.

so bard/wizard/sorceror are your 3 choices for arcane.

Wizard is intel,bard/sorc is charisma based.

Your best bet is to go bard <1?>/cleric/pale master,especially since clerics get a turn undead bonus from charisma.

Sorceror would work also,if you want more magic and weaker combat skills.

The whole POINT of a pale-master is a non-clerical necromancer. You need level 3 of arcane spell-casting... so that requires wizard-5, sorcer-6?, bard-7?

It also adds to your arcane casting level

I think its a pretty weak prestige class... particularily taken early on. Anything that delays spell-progression is a bad idea for a caster class. (worth a 1 level dip early, then wait until Epic levels.)

If you DID want to go this way... take a cleric to 21... then wizard to 5, then push pale master in epic. Downside is you are like level 35 before you really come into your Pale Master powers. but you'd be a very powerful character all the way up.

Personally... I would go with Magic/Death/or Knowledge as domains... a Lawful Neutral/Evil cleric, specialize in necromancy/divination as a wizard, and kind of have him become increasingly dark and power-hungry as he goes up in level.
