IC Information
Name :: Knolk Lacus

Age :: 41

Birthday :: 23 September

Gender :: Male

Wand :: 8”, Essence of Dragon's Whisker, Lignum Vitae wood. Good for charms and healing.

Position :: Headmaster, Charms Professor.

Animal :: a large phoenix given to him by his wealthy great-grandfather when he was young called Alyex.

Personality :: Knolk easily expresses his emotions and is not drained by social interaction. He smiles a lot, believes most people like or will like him. Bold he likes to lead and would rather be a participant than an observer. He is also gregarious, seeking and enjoying the company of others. He often assumes the role of "Entertainer" or "Performer", easy to get to know he spends more time with others than alone and he tends to be confident.

Appearance :: Knolk’s appearance generally reflects his personality, his features are cheeky and it is rare that he doesn’t smile; his height stands at about 6 foot, although he looks taller because of the straight and strong posture he likes to hold.

History :: Knolk Lacus was born and raised in the wizarding world and knew very little about Muggles or their society. Up until he was ten Knolk was home taught by his father and showed lots of magical potential; shortly before Knolk’s eleventh birthday he received a letter from Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, inviting him to attend the school and before he knew it he was being sorted into his house which was, as common in the Lacus family, Gryffindor.

Knolk sailed through school, being top of every ‘academic’ class he attended. He also made many friends and also a few enemies in his time there; in his fifth yeah he was made prefect and managed to accomplish 10 ‘O’ levels in his Ordinary Wizarding Levels and as he progressed through his school career he was eventually appointed the position of Head Boy and at the end of his seventh yeah managed to gain a further 7 ‘O’ grades in his Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests.

After leaving Hogwarts he joined the Ministry of Magic as an Auror. For the first few years of his career, he generally followed the examples of the many and took on a more paranoid and secretive personality, but once the years had ticked by and he had settled in, gained respect and caught many dark wizards he decided that he was bored of treating everyone like a criminal and reverted back to his good, old, boyish charm, to the disgust of quite a few of his colleagues.

Although his personality had changed his skills hadn’t and eventually his disgusted colleagues adjusted to his new attitude. After 10 years as an Auror a large group of dark wizards had started to form, they had no distinguishable leader, but they were still dangerous and over a terrorising, 13 year span of killing and destruction the wizarding world slowly crawled towards collapse; At this point the ministry decided to take a final stand sending all of the Aurors, 2 to 1 against the dark ring of wizards, both sides took heavy casualties, leaving only the strongest of which Knolk was one of them.

Knolk was given the Ministry’s Highest Honour – The Order Of Merlin First Class along with the nineteen other colleagues who had survived the onslaught, shortly before the were sent back into battle with the remaining few dark wizard, where they finished them off once and for all…

After the battle between the Aurors’ and the dark wizards’ the Aurors were offered retirement and a few large vaults of gold which were more than enough to last them several life times. Several months after his retirement though, Knolk was thirsty for something to do; Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was shut down after 5 years of conflict and had been reopened after what the wizarding community now called “The Great War” and as soon as the news reached Knolk’s ears he put in his application to become Headmaster of the most magical school, Hogwarts…

Hogwarts A New World…

The late twentieth century finally saw the fall of the Dark Lord Grindelwald after almost a century of battle. Not much was known about how he fell, or if he even fell at all, although this was not enough to stop his followers, believing that he would one day return they continued to create terror in both the wizarding and Muggle worlds; In the beginning the group of Dark Wizards only targeted the homes of those who got in their way, but after ten years of destruction they started to become more precise … attacking the homes of Muggle borns.

After these shocking display of events the Governments of the Wizarding world gave in, and they amended the Muggle protection act so that no Muggle or Muggle Born wizard may have ties with the wizarding world, eventually the list of Muggle born targets dried up, and the Dark wizards began Terror attacks on major targets, Diagon alley was the first … then Hogwarts, a school devoted to teaching young Witches and Wizards the arts of magic.

After the amendment of the Muggle protection act life carried on as normal; the ministry enforced that all households employ anti-Muggle charms; people still feared waking up at night to the sounds of their family being tortured … the Ministry of Magic in a last ditch attempt after seventeen years of terror decided to take the fight to the enemy. Nearing the end of the century and what the wizarding world liked to call “The Great War” all of the remaining ministry Aurors were sent out to battle the dark followers of the fallen Grindelwald.

The battle lasted for seven days and seven nights … the Aurors, although their numbers low, emerged victorious, bringing the Wizarding world to rejoice, although the battle was not over, they still had to rebuild. Wizarding London, a buffer zone over the previous century, once again was open to the wizarding world, although this had it’s problems, the majority of Witches and Wizards in wizarding Britain went without a school to be taught in and went untaught for just short of a century, only the most wealthy could be taught the ways of magic, meaning that the number of qualified wizards had dwindled …

…The reopening of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was exactly the spark the wizarding community needed to get back on to its feet …

The Rules

Yeah, the rules… boring, but at the end of the day they are here to make the board suitable and enjoyable for Role Players (RPers) of all ages, so please bare them in mind when you are Role Playing here.

1. The Profanity filter on this board is switched on for a reason, so please do not try to find a way around it when making a post, just stick to Standard English and everyone will be happy.

2. God Moding will not be tolerated on this board because it can ruin the final out come of an Role Play; examples of this include controlling another persons character, being more powerful than what your character is capable of and casting a spell correctly every time.

3. If your character is in a relationship with another character please exercise some restraint in how you show your love, nothing more than what would appear in the Harry Potter Books.

4. You may have as many accounts as you like as long as each account has a full bio.

5. No crossover role-playing is allowed, so that’s no characters from TV shows/movies, cartoons/animated stories or non-Harry Potter books/novels (except for Harry Potter see application guidelines).

6. You may not kill a character unless you have both the character involved and a third party staff members consent.

7. The posting of links within your post or within your sig is forbidden, unless they are links to another thread on the board or to one of the board’s affiliates.

8. Only you may give out your email address/IM addy, no one else may be able to on your behalf.

9. A Moderator or an Administrator has a final say in any argument with a member regardless of what position that member is, the only exception to this is in a deliberate OOC argument in the OOC forum.

10. Advertising is not allowed, if you wish to affiliate with HANW then you will need to look at the affiliation section on the sidebar.

Failure to abide by these rules my result in removal of privileges at the discretion of the Moderator or Administrator in charge of the situation and these rules are also here in conjunction with EzBoard’s TOU and may be changed at any time.

Application Guidelines

This RPG is based on the Harry Potter series of books created by JK Rowling and although the plotline of the RPG may differ from that of the books we still expect the character which you make to fall into the general guidelines of the Wizarding world created in the books. This Guide will help ensure that your character is suitable for this RPG and also help accelerate the process of your application, so you may become a member in no time at all.

For the time being, until we acquire more members, we will only accept witches and wizards, weather they are full-blood, half-blood, Muggle born or a half-breed is up to you, but for now all magic creatures are classed as Non-Playable Characters (NPCs) meaning that there actions (within limitations) are played by you in your characters Role Play.

You cannot be a super-all-special-magical person, to make things both interesting and fair, your character is not allowed to be more powerful than their age dictates, although, your character may be bright, but nobody is perfect and even in the Harry Potter books the characters had their weaknesses, so please consider this when making your character.

Although the above still applies you are allowed, however to have special abilities, but if you wish to have a special ability, it must be from the Harry Potter series (although if an ability of your own creation is original and plausible enough, then its acceptation may be considered) and you must have a 250 word example role-play of the chose ability at the end of your bio.

This RPG has a very interesting plot line, because Hogwarts has only just reopened after the Great war, Muggle borns have only just been told about the wizarding world and the few Pure Bloods which are left now have the option to transfer to a school a little closer to home, so you, as a Role Player have the option to have your character start in any year you like and be able to transfer from another Wizarding school.

And finally you are by all means allowed to have a character which has the same/similar name to one of the cannon characters but unfortunately in this RPG none of them are famous or have special powers, so please bear that in mind.

The Magic

A full list of the charms and the magic which is used can be found at the HP-Lexicon although there is a lot of magic which is missed out in the books so this guide will instruct you in the art of making a new spell, whether it be an offensive, neutral or defensive, Charm, Hex, Jinx, Curse, etc

"I don't believe in witchcraft, though I've lost count of the number of times I've been told I'm a practicing witch. Ninety - let's say ninety five percent at least, of the magic in the books in entirely invented by me. And I've used things from folklore and I've used bits of what people used to believe worked magically just to add a certain flavour, but I've always twisted them to suit my own ends. I mean, I've taken liberties with folklore to suit my plot." - J.K. Rowling on magic in the books

The Magic used in the Harry Potter series is almost completely made-up or derived from folk law so to make a new spell can be simply done and the following guide will instruct you in the process of making a HANW approved spell:

The Guide to making the spell.

1. Most of the spells in the Harry Potter books are derived from the foundation languages such as Latin, Greek etc. Bearing this in mind we will now look at how simple a spell is to make:

Latin ---------------- English
Accio --------------- Summon

Hence the Summoning Charm. Now not that many people know direct Latin translations the best way to get around this is to use one of the many free translators which are on the internet.

2. Once you have chosen a name for your spell you will have to decide whether it is to be verbal or non-verbal; consider though that Non-verbal spells are advanced magic and are hard to accomplish, for example the Disillusionment Charm although spells which are verbal are easier to cast their effect is more simple.

3. Now here’s the hard part, describing how the caster should cast the spell, whether they should need a wand or not, whether they should need to swish their wand through the air or shove it up their left nostril, whether they should point with their hand or just look with their inner-eye etc.

4. A de*****ion of the spell will also be needed, in both the transport and contact of it; for instance, whether the spell can be seen in transport (if it needs to transport) or not and what the spell does to its target, whether it be a person, an object or air etc.

Once you have made your new spell you will need to post it in the “Custom Magic” thread in the “Important Information” Forum with the information you just created with the above steps.

After you have posted your spell a member of board staff will review it and give it a difficulty rating on a scale of 1-10. If you do not agree with the rating which your spell has been give you may give what you believe it should be and a reason why, then the spell will be re-reviewed.

1 = First Years should be able to cast this spell. Success Probability – 100%
2 = Second Years should be able to cast this spell. Success Probability – 95%
3 = Third Years should be able to cast this spell. Success Probability – 90%
4 = Fourth Years should be able to cast this spell. Success Probability – 80%
5 = Fifth Years should be able to cast this spell. Success Probability – 70%
6 = Sixth Years should be able to cast this spell. Success Probability – 60%
7 = Seventh Years should be able to cast this spell. Success Probability – 50%
8 = this is a spell which requires a large amount of talent and is not easy to cast. Success Probability – 40%
9 = this would be a spell which requires a large amount of talent and power. Success Probability – 20%
10 = this would be a spell so which requires so much power or requires certain objects etc for it to be cast. Success Probability – 5%.

Well, with all of this out of the way the staff here at HANWA will leave you with these words.
