playing thru HoTU, the damn drow are annoying the hell out of me with that spell. As a shifter I can transform into a drow and thats the best counter I have. Its really annoying and driving me as insane as halster.
Re: counter to darkness?
As a druid shifter, my feats are far and few between. I just took up rogue and plan to level him to 4, but damn do I really have to waste a feat on it? It seems like such a waste when my druid/shifter is still lacking in so many other departments as a "melee".
Ahh, I will try ultravision. Its so rare that I look in my spellbook I didn't even think of that.
Re: counter to darkness?
You could buy ultravision scrolls and cast them with a mere 5 points (after charisma modifier) in the Use Magical Device skill.
Re: counter to darkness?
The spell "Daylight" is a level 3 druid spell, and should counter darkness, assuming it casts as a spell. Darkness is a level 2 spell and deeper darkness is level 3 spell. Both can be effectively countered by daylight.
heh, I play a cleric in a campaign in which a certain class of humans are able to see in magical darkness, so the whole darkness/daylight strat is old hat to me
Re: counter to darkness?
Darkness can be great for a rogue... every hit is a critical, even without a flanker. You can almost build an entire character around Darkness+Blindfight+SneakAttack.

Re: counter to darkness?
One of the things you get from the starting inn is a gem that casts truesight 1x a day, So just use that. Pretty much counters the first round action of all duerger to go invis also.
As a melee character, Darkness doesn't really do much against me, even without the above gem. The AI doesn't move, so I just wade through the darkness till I'm within melee range of where they were before the darkness and they show up when you hit Tab/mouseover. Sure, it takes a few more swings due to the 50% miss chance, but so far for my character build that only equals out to the drow dieing from my 4th attack of this round, or at latest, one of my next round attacks. (greatsword, crit hit Fighter 12/ Weap master 7, with standard keen, imp crit, blah blah blah loadout). Darkness may get nastier when enemies start surviving 60-80 dmg swings/cleaves/greatcleaves.
As an aside, it was my understanding that darkness/light counter each other based on total number of spells And level. Higher lvl spells counter all concurrent lower level spells, but counter equal level spells on a 1 for 1 basis.
I.e. one cast of 3rd lvl sunshine counters all 2nd lvl darkness's in effect, but only 1 deeper darkness.
Having 6 items enchanted with 2nd level lights should counter up to 6 concurrent casts of 2nd level darkness. (first 5 darknesses are fully supressed, leaving the light effect, 6th darkness finally counters the light leaving natural lighting conditions, then 7th darkness actually gives a darkness effect).
Yet this doesn't seem to work. Am I wrong, or is this just a bad implementation?
