Yes, I do read Richard Laymon. In fact, a great Laymon site is www.rlk.cjb.net ;)

Bite is a wonderful book, also. If I see it on the shelves, I'll grab a copy for you.

Nancy,

I never give away plots! ;) Hehehe. Hell, most of the time I don't read the back cover blurbs either...I don't want to spoil all the fun. So I suggest you order a copy ASAP and have a great time. How many have you read? I could always recommend others for you.

Glad to see you found the Laymon forum too.

Cheers,

Steve

Re: TerrorOZ! February 2003 News Update.
LOL Nancy,

Okay, here's the teaser:

"Sam hasn't seen his first love, Cat, for ten years. But now she's back, asking for help - the kind of help she can only get from a man who'd do anything she asked. Like kill a vampire.

Sam doesn't believe in vampires but he does believe in the bite marks on Cat's body. And he knows he still loves her.

The vampire visits at midnight. Cat waits for him, naked, on her bed. Sam is in the closet with a stake in his hand and a million questions in his mind.

Are Cat's wounds self-inflicted? Is she insane? Or is she setting him up?

Sam needn't worry much longer. He's about to find out the truth. It's almost midnight..."

Hope this helps!

Hi Nancy,

You can find out all about me and my novels, plus all the latest news, at www.terroroz.cjb.net - that's the official site. :) I'm happy to answer any questions you have. ;)

As I don't know which Laymon books you already have, you'll have to list them for me, then I can recommend some others.

Sound like a deal?

Hi Nancy,

I don't know if my books have made it as far as Canada - although I have had some Canadians email me about my work. So it must be getting out there!

You can order them online through www.shocklines.com

Tell Matt I sent you and he'll look after you. ;)

You should also be able to order some Laymon's online too. Try www.amazon.com I suggest you try ONE RAINY NIGHT or ENDLESS NIGHT, ISLAND or THE CELLAR. That should keep you going for now!

Cheers,

Steve

Hey Nancy,

Matt runs the Shocklines bookstore. He'll be able to get you any of the books you need. He's a cool guy and will help you out.

I read lots of books, both fiction and non-fiction. I like the fiction works of Robert Bloch, Bentley Little, Jack Ketchum and Richard Matheson. Non-fiction depends on what I feel like reading at any time, or what research I'm doing for a book. I haven't read any Ann Rice books, but I would have to say that Richard Laymon and Robert Bloch both inspired me to write.

I haven't written any vampire novels....not yet anyway. But you never know... ;)

Re: TerrorOZ! February 2003 News Update.
Nancy,

Writing takes time and hard work. But make sure you write about what you like to read. And write for yourself, not for anyone else. Sure your readers are important, but you have to be 100% committed to the book you are writing - for the story and the characters. If you're writing for a set audience or set genre, it's just not the same.

Try and write a little something every single day, and learn from those writers whose writing you respect and admire.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Re: TerrorOZ! February 2003 News Update.
hi there steve and how r u? first of all id like to thank u for the advise it helps alot.

i started to write but i was really unsure of myself and the writing i did i love to write about vampires fact as well as fiction and i respect many authors, i am now thinking it is nice to have a real life author to advise me on things or how to write a good novel.

since i was 12 i have always liked the vampire novels and i enjoy reading the about the real life ppl who started the myth and legends to this.

i am not sure but i know i like anne trice and stephen king richard laymon brian lumley and micheal romkey these r only a few of the many but mainly i am into horror (vampirism) to be exact and i do my research as well as tr to put myself as tjhe character.

do u do that too i mean picture urself as the main character or a character in ur work?? when i read a book i look at it as a way of escape and the novel has to get me to the point where i dont want to put it away in my opinion thats a great book i hope i am right on this.

1 last thing did u ever doubt what u were writing when u started?

thank you for the advise it is appreciated.;)

Re: TerrorOZ! February 2003 News Update.
Hi Nancy,

My books are very character based, so I do have to have the main characters living with me in my head. Sometimes they tell me what to do, and sometimes they tell me what I'm doing is wrong. It's all about listening to the characters and letting them tell the story. It can be weird sometimes, but my best work is done that way. The characters usually know exactly what they have to do.

There's always an element of doubt when you start a book, I think that's normal. I always try to push myself to try something new, something a bit different, and there's always a worry it won't work. That's where research and planning comes in. Thankfully, most of my work has turned out well, which is good.

Hope this helps,

Steve

HEY STEVE THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE ADVISE I KNOW WHEN I STARTED TO WRITE I GENERALLY ALLOOW MY CHARACTERS TO WRITE THEMSELVES IN THE WORK I DO AND THEY SHINE THROUGH ALTHOUGH I FIND IT WEIRD BUT HEY I BET U DO TOO RIGHT ?

I HAVE SO MANY IDEAS BUT I JUST HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO START WITH THEM ALL PPL SAY IT USUALLY FLOWS OUT ON ITS OWN BUT I SEEM TO HAVE GOTTEN LOST AND I DONT KNOW WHERE OR WHICH IDEAS R BEST SUITED, IT FEELS LIKE THE PEN RAN AWAY WITH THE HAND LOL:D

I KNOW I CAN GET DRAWN INTO A STORY OF ANNE RICE OR STEPHEN KING LIKE I AM LIVING THE CHARACTERS LIFE AND SEEING THINGS INFOLD THROUGH THE EYES OF THE PPL IN THE BOOK BUT IT IS DIFFERENT TRYING TO WRITE AS 1 FOR MYSELF .

I TRY TO INTEGGRATE MYSELF IN TO THE STORY AS IF I AM REALLY DOING WHAT I AM WRITING , HOW DO U DIFFERENCIATE THE CHARACTERS AND WHEN DO U PLACE THEM I FIND ITS HARD IT FEELS LIKE I GOT THESE MILLIONS OF VOICES ALL TALKING AT ONCE.

I HAVE ASKED THE LIBRAARY HERE TO PUT AMN ORDER FOR UR BOOK SO I CAN READ IT:p :)

UR A TRUE BLESSING STEVE THANK YOU AGAIN 8)

Re: TerrorOZ! February 2003 News Update.
Hi Nancy,

The main goal is to have one or two main characters. They're the ones who should be in your head. The supporting characters are there too, but they shouldn't dominate like the main characters. Most stories are character driven, with the plot that revolves around the characters - that's why it's important to have well-defined main characters.

I hope your library can source a copy of my books! Let me know how they go.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Nancy,

No matter what, keep writing. While something may not be working right now, explore avenues, think about what would happen if this happens or that happens, write them down and see if the problem resolves itself.

The problem with the library is that currently all my books are sold out, so they may have a problem getting hold of any, although they can order THE NOCTURNE as a pre-release through www.shocklines.com as it is released in the middle of this year.

Cheers,

Steve
