huh?
Amaroq looked to Furora as she approached him. He was wary of the stiff gait, but was otherwise calm. When she bowed her head, he felt awkward, not really knowing what to do. He gave an unsure relpy in english:
"Uhh..thank you." he smiled at Furora, hoping to please her in some way, and bowed his head a little. |

Re: huh? 'Aha,' the smallish blackish dragon thought, his casting mind catching a snag in the pattern of the rocky plains. He had been wandering, scratch that, searching for several days now, and had not yet found any new creatures. 'Sounds like the lights have been busy, today,' he mused, picking up his pace to a nice clip. What appeared to be feathers on his shaggy wings shivered and danced as the wind caught them, as did the scales along his head, neck and fore-arms. Although he had been in this land for a great while, there was still much to be learned. Why, for instance, did those little bewitching lights seem to flare up all at once, forewarning of new arrivals? Although he, the black dragon that is, had seen newcomers quite randomly, it appeared that once in a while, whole clumps could be found. It wasn't as though the lights had lured a whole nest, no, it was more like the lights had decided to deposit them all in one place. It was fascinating, but what the loping black was more interested in was who had been 'victimized' this time. He knew that others would be searching tonight too. If he had anything to say about it, they could kiss his tail and back off, bucko, because tonight's catch was his. 'And even if they don't think I can put up much of a fight... well, they'll come around. Everyone always does.' It was the way of things here, even if it was a makeshift way. Kaor, for that was the dragon's name, had been delivered unto it, and now, well, now it was his duty. 'Round up the new beasts, sort 'em out, discard the useless, bring back the others....' he recited the litany, though his version of it was much less sing-songy, and much more down to business. As he approached the group, (small as they were at this distance), he slowed, tossing his muscled (and hairy) neck up so as to catch a scent or two. Now, there was a neat trick that he had learned a few years after he'd first come here, had first been put to work under another searcher. That old clod had called it something like 'Mind-speech', or maybe it was, what was it? Empathy! That was it. Kaor tested it now, cocking his head to one side and laying his ears back along his head, closing his reptillian eyes. Welcome to the lands of rocks and plains, he tried, and then in a more simplistic version in case these creatures thought more with emotions, *warmth of a comforting kind radiating up from the ground and sky, coming most strongly from a black shape resting a few hundred metres away. Haloed in beckoning, peaceful light, the black shape resolves itself into a draconic creature, though the predatory appearance is toned down to a minimum*, he grins, despite himself. Don't be afraid, this land is not as new and threatening as it appears. As an after thought, he added, I am, Kaor, your guide this evening. He only wished that there were others of his own kind to share some inside jokes. |

what was that? Amaroq freezes in midbreath. He smelled another creature on the wind. He couldnt place it though, reptilian definitely, but not any he would know, he'd have to see it to identify it. He slowly peeked behind him, seeing nothing..then -WHAM-. an image popped into his head and a voice. He reeled a little bit but recovered quickly. He tried to sort out the thoughts...a Dragon! it was a Dragon! A live Dragon! Here, where he was, coming to him and the creatures around him! His breathing sped up a little, so did hos heartrate. He had dreamed of meeting a Dragon. He would get his chance. But what did he mean by guide? where they going somewhere? He spoke to Charcoal again,"Did you just have someone talk to you in your head? Err, telepathy, empathy, mindspeak." Which word was it?! "Talk in your head.." He nodded, hoping the Creature could understand what he meant. |

Nearby Nearby the group another dragon waited. She had lain listening to the conversations although she could not understand why the others seemed to be ignoring the little dark colored one. "Why don't they see that the little one wants to talk?" She thought to herself. "it seems to be one of the more intelligent of their group and besides it was the first to warn them of the white one when it approached them." ((OOC: Is that alright? If I'm not feel free to tell how to improve.)) "Lead, follow, or get out of my flight path." |

Re: Nearby As far as he knows, the minotaur has no talent for mindspeech -- but that's only because it's only fancy and children's tales in his native lands, and he'd never run into the real thing in his travels (or at least, none capable who had deigned to speak to him). Yet. But the wave of emotions and thought words that washes over him now is very clearly understandable, and that makes for two rather large surprises in the space of a single evening -- he hopes to himself that that's the last one, unless the final might be the way back to familiar lands. Almost as if he were actually hearing the words, he zeros in on their source with little problem, and greets the crouched dragon with a look of mingled curiosity and surprise, but the wolf-boy's frantic questioning distracts his attention away again. "Did you just have someone talk to you in your head? Err, telepathy, empathy, mindspeak ... Talk in your head.." he asked, half of which Charcoal didn't catch due to the speed and unfamiliar words -- but the gist is clear. He nods, and then looks back to the dark dragon. It's his call, now. -- |

Re: Nearby When the golden dragon heard the dark dragon's approach, using her mind magic, she immediately silenced her thoughts so as not to give herself away to the newcomer. When she heard the dark dragon hail the others she was surprised. She did the not recognize the dragon as one of her species and was shocked to find that it too was able to hail others using mindspeech. She knew that other dragons were able to sense thoughts but so far as she knew very few dragons had the ability to converse with others and she happened to be one of them. Re: Nearby ((OOC: I Figure she has been here for Quite a while. Just adding some spice into the mix The surprise caught Drakenhart offguard, as the mindspeech reeled through her head. The inital reaction to such a shock sent her into her natural form. She stumbled back uncerimoniously, sliding to her haunches as her full size form unraveled itself from themuch smaller form of the winged canine. Her light colored mane caught the slight breeze that had sprung up, flaring out light and wafting. Her longish ears perked up around her small, reversed-curved horns. Fur thinned and shortened, and scales could be seen between the soft fur, as if an undercoat. Paws turned to talons, while wings turned from feathery to bare and bat-like. Her wolfish face elongated a bit, and the brow broadened. Her eyes, though still wolfish, slid back a nictating membrane in a sudden blink of astonishment. Her tail lengthened to balance the length of the neck and the weight of the upper body, while a pale brown-blonde mane sprouted along its length begining at the base of the tail. Her ears pinned as she recognized the shape and form of speech. Growling out a warning, she took a few steps away from the newbeasts. In Dragon High Speech, she addressed the Seeker. "To What Following do Ye belong?" Her mane along neck and tail spiked up. Talons, an average human hand in length, dug into the earth. Her body tense and ready for flight if this Seeker was of the Hunter Clans. Oh drat, I be late. Kaor blinked, startled by the sudden change of the dragon-creature that was startled by him. Then he let out a short guffaw. Him frightening another! That was almost enough for him to roll around on the ground laughing. He would have, too, if this weren't such a serious occasion. The black had reared up so that he was sitting with hairy arms on his knees, all the better to watch them, and from the looks of them, they weren't too happy to see him. There was silence for a moment, and then the change-a-beast called out, in words that the black dreaded. 'To what Following do you belong?' it had called. Ah, super. So he really had been too slow. Another creature from another tribe or clan had already caught these new-folks. Ah, well.... though if Changey was from one of Shris' many enemy-camps, Kaor wasn't sure what he'd do. Probably put up a damned good fight... Working up his boldest voice, Kaor puffed out his own furry front-side. He spoke in the commonly accepted language around these parts, assuming that because he could understand Changey, that it perhaps could understand him as well. "I belong to Tribe Shris, and I have no quarry with you. I'm here only to guide the Lost ones." No quarry indeed. His quarry were the confused folks surrounding Changey, and he wasn't about to give up days of travel to an enemy. Edited by: dracothrope at: 7/3/03 2:36 pm |

Re: Oh drat, I be late.
Her eyes squinted at the name, as she recognized it. Her ears twitched a bit in mild regard for the rest of the party, keeping aware of their relative position and feelings. Her hackles lowered a bit, and her defensive posture relaxed from her near-attack mode. Swishing her tail floof in aggitation, she sniffed at the black.
Some of the speech she recognizes, as it is a blending of many different tounges. Some of the words and grammer she remembers from her meeting with another group, several days ago. She ponders wether or not the others find this language alien and yet so very familar. Blinking her thoughts away, she focuses more on the new comer. Dredging up her teachings from many upon many years ago, she tries her best to make herself understood. "Greetings Seeker of Tribe Shris, I am Drakenhart of the...," She paused for the moment trying to remember the term used to name herself amoung those that called this strange world home. She takes a step forward, her body tight with anticipation. Her neck arched snake-like, she tilts her head to one side. Watching this one, she steps again, not towards the black this time, but to the side. She lowers her head, her mane softer now and more relaxed, she eyes the black dragon. "... I cannot remember the term. Though, new to this place as well, I have been sought after by the Hunter Clans. If I remember rightly, they do not like the Tribe of Shris." She relaxed only a touch, as she tried to settled into the grasses. Her body now mostly between the group and the black dragon. Her posture one of reserved action. "As one who does not wish to be food for the Hunter Clans, and one who has met them and knows your Tribe is not liked by them, this one wonders what Your intentions are?" Carefully she lowered herself more into the grasses, in a show of non-agression. Her posture still one of restrained action, she gives this new beast a chance to speak for himself. hmm? Amaroq smelled another scent similar to the first. Two Dragons? This was becoming a strange day. A strange day, indeed. He looked around him for the other. He spotted a dark shape in the light colored grass, and peered at it, trying to discern its appearance. |

Re: hmm? (OOC: Hey look, I'm alive *grins*) "So many new scents! So many new faces!" She cries out, knowing she is not understood. Furora's head beings to reel, never before had she been surrounded by so many potential predators. Where are they all coming from? In a fit of confusion she shakes herself violently, releasing a frustrated snarl into the otherwise calm air. The fur on the nape of her neck bristles as her paws scratch at the ground. What a hell it is to have the ability speak but not the ability to be understood. She relaxes gradually, pacing back and forth in slow, counted steps. Clearing her throat she looks up, rather embarassed by her loss of control. Flicking her long ears and standing tall she makes another attempt to introduce herself to the newer members of the group. "Greetings, I am Furora....how can we leave this place??" It comes out a bit faster than she originally intended and she winces at the sound of her own voice. It's no wonder the others couldn't understand her, she growls and rasps horribly in comparison to them. Not seeing any other alternatives she bows once more, feeling herself humble under the gaze of the strangely composited group. LiveJournal |

Re: hmm? She waited for the other's responce when the little one jumped up, full of frustration. Flicking an ear in that general directions, she found she could pick up a few more logical formations to the other's speech patterns. Her name was there again, and somethign about leaving..., ... Eyeing the dark one, he tail flicked in annoyance. There were too many thigs to yet do here. If this one had found them the Hunter Clans sure would eventually. Re: hmm? *Sensing Draken's irritation at the dark being she casts a wary eye over him as well. She hadn't been terribly preoccupied when he had first popped in, but enough so to not have paid him full attention. It is obvious that there is something unsettling with him, but Furora can not determine what exactly. She pads over to Draken's side where she waits* LiveJournal |

Re: hmm? ((gah! I'm sorry! I had writers block and I just couldn't get anything down! *whines* I'm really, really sorry...)) Kaor swept the area about the small group for any more stragglers... they tended to end up near one another, though there were never the same amount. Hmm. There were many scents on the wind tonight, and some of them were disconcerting... some of them smelled all to familiar. He took in the lead-creature's (or what he assumed to be the lead creature) appearance, and noted her virtually physical waves of frustration. Though he didn't understand the horse-ish dog's words, her impatience was clear. "Ah, intentions." He began, trying to use a familiar tongue. He had heard parts of her language spoken before, and had learned a few words. "Well, as a Seeker, I try to gather sentient life which has been brought toghether, that being you guys..." he pointed with a muzzle and floofed scales, "and keep it safe from Hunter maws and gullets!" He nodded, then shivered. "You know, that lot... if they don't convert you, they swallow you whole. You're lucky you ended up somewhere near Shris, rather than... elsewhere." He blinked, thinking he heard something, but the moment was gone. He took a step or two closer. "If you'd all like to come with me, then...?" They were always so difficult at first... yeeshkabobbers. Kaor shrugged inwardly. He -would- get them to come back with him... with so many beings in one group, there was now WAY that he was going to allow his competition to beat him. |
