Re: My MADONNA tickets!
It was 'Believe' and it was only a few years ago, and she's been at it 40 years, so we'll see in 20 years time if Madonna even has the ability to get on stage.
Although saying that, if I had the money (which I don't) I would have paid to see her for the simple fact that she guarantees you a good show.
And maybe the thinking behind the high prices is that she doesn't want to be on the road for too long therefore if she does fewer dates, she can charge more, but knows that her FANS will pay to see her and not a random person off the street who fancies seeing her.
That way she does fewer shows (less time away from the family), but her true fans still get to see the show.
Re: My MADONNA tickets!
i think its more crazy pricing because she can, as its been said before. shes a huge star and people will pay huge amounts to go see her. hence the price.
its as simple as that really i think.
although the planned crying still does sound a bit over the top.
Quote:I'm not being typical or anything, but say if Christina did something like this and she didn't donate any money, would you be pissed at her then?
If Christina was charging 5 times the average cost of a ticket, used images of say the war and 3rd world, and didn't donate, yes i'd be angry. But given that christina sings live during her concerts, she doesn't need gimmicks to help make the night memorable.
Quote:Didn't she say all the people in the video were beautiful? She was promoting a good message with that video, what does Madonna promote with her "breakdown
The wonders of Kabbalah
Quote: I am surprised JJb hasnt been in here slagging u off kickass, he's probably scared of you tho
whats to be scared off?
Quote:It's the same thing - if you're talking about something, whether it be positive or negative, you have to donate money to a charity...(according to Kickass
According to kickass, Madonna relies on shock tactics/images to make the audience pay attention, now if she uses images of dying babies, and soldiers at war, some of which may have been killed since being filmed, to hold the audiences attention, surely some sort of contribution to help end the suffering of those she apparently "cares" isn't too much to ask. Madonna is capable of making a difference to the lives of many in 3rd world countries.
Quote:I really really hope she isn't planning to break down and cry on stage. That would be so false and crap and completely ruin the show
If the subjects of the videos she'll be playing in the background, truly touched her heart, it wouldn't need to be planned. But the fact that before the tour has got under way, we are expecting her to break down just suggests she couldn't care less about them.
Quote:Madonna isn't the only person who can make people pay through the nose
Your right she's not, but she chooses too in my opinion, cause she's not as popular as she once was, i'm talking album/single sales here.
Quote:When was Cher's last UK No.1 album....LMAO, has she even had one
You usually shoot people down for using UK figures, you like the big picture, well, when it comes to britney anyway, cause her recent history hasn't been the greatest has it.
Quote:It was 'Believe' and it was only a few years ago
Yeah, with the massive single of the same name. no.1 for 6 weeks was it not???

that is what i was getting at, although they said it better than me.
Quote:her recent history hasn't been the greatest has it.
no. last thing i heard of Madonna was when she was trying to stop people walking across public land so she could shot things.
Re: My MADONNA tickets!
I was on a rant about Buffy and hios love or world figures when it comes to britney with that not madonna, but Madonna recent events haven't been the best either.
Quote:But given that christina sings live during her concerts, she doesn't need gimmicks to help make the night memorable.
Madonna also sings live on her tours, so don't make it sound like she doesn't.

Well sales usually reflect popularity/demand, of which Cher has been short of in recent years. And as I've said before, Britney is still one of the the most famous of people in the world with No.1 singles left, right and centre, so say what you want, the fact that she's stayed on top after five years is proof enough for me.
Quote:Yeah, with the massive single of the same name. no.1 for 6 weeks was it not???
7 weeks actually, lol, and it only got to No.1 because she happened to grasp it with both hands when it was handed to her. She got lucky - like Kylie with CGYOOMH...

Christina has an amazing voice, Madonaa hasn't, thats what i meant by the statement. When you've a voice like Whitney, Mariah, Christina, Celine, and Beyonce, there is less need for visual aids.

Madonna hasn't exactly been top of the charts lately either. As for britney and her no.1's, ae we talking UK or global with you now, cause frankly it was four years between no.1's for her in the UK was it not. Hardly left right and centre.
Quote:7 weeks actually, lol, and it only got to No.1 because she happened to grasp it with both hands when it was handed to her. She got lucky - like Kylie with CGYOOMH
What the fuck are you on about grasping with hands???? You do realise that the single's charts are worked out from sales, therefore the public decided she was going to be no.1 for 7 weeks. Believe was nothing like CGYOOMH, it had verses and choruses.
re: Madonna
I've only just recovered from properly cacking myself over the description of Madonna's tour on page 1!! One of the funniest things i've ever read - stoll cant stop laughing - canrt wtrite properly!!
She WILL break down in tears during Imagine to a backdrop of starving children - its almost as if its a command! if its true then it so incredibly sad! yet so hilarious! - I havent laughed so much for ages (and i laugh a lot!)
Priscilla's comment - a lovely added touch there!
And no im not a hater - Madonna's alright - shes an iconic figure in recent history and i saw her on the last night of her play, 'Up For Grabs', 2 summers ago.
But anticipated emotion and all this electric chair/war footage shit is beyond funny. Who does she think she is!!!!!!
Quote:Im so angry with the madonna haters in this thread i cant type. I am shaking with rage
How on earth is Christina Slagulera better than Madonna?
The on stage crying is fab if she does it, Madonna is the ulltimate drama queen do not forget
Really cause you seem to be typing just fine. We're not debating whether or not Miss Slagulera is better than Madonna. I simply stated that christina does not need to use images of the war and 3rd world countries in her concerts. Which came about after buffy asked about Christina making donations etc etc.
Madonna is the ultimate drame queen is she? Swept Away says differently.
Quote:Christina has an amazing voice, Madonaa hasn't, thats what i meant by the statement. When you've a voice like Whitney, Mariah, Christina, Celine, and Beyonce (apparently) there is less need for visual aids.
Well I don't instantly go for the voice (e.g. Britney) but with Madonna she mixes live singing with on-stage visuals which makes the show even more spectacular. Call me sad, but I'd rather see Madonna jumping around on stage like she did in Drowned World that someone like smack-head Whitney stood up doing a little jig with her mic for two hours....

I wasn't talking about UK success, but success on a worldwide scale is much more important to me. Obviously not to you, obviously....

Exactly, she grasped it with both hands when someone wrote it and gave it to her. It's not like she had any input into the song - only reason she was successful is because it was a good song. Revival didn't last long did it? A year later she was still the same ol' washed-up has-been....
Anyway, I'm gonna agree to disagree, because we just get no where going round and round....

Re: My MADONNA tickets!
Say what you like about Madge, but there's no need to tell lies about Cher. She DID have a creative input with Believe - it was written FOR her. Also her producers wanted to take the vocoder effect off the song, but she wouldn't let them. Sinc ethen just about everyone (Britney and Madonna included) has copied the vododer effect, which Cher was the first to use. Believe is the biggest album of her career, so to say was washed up over that period is just insane!
She's just completely the most successful US tour of all time by a female - and is currently on a sell-out run across Europe. Living Proof sold really well, and gave her another top ten hit which she co-wrote. her DVD sales are huge too. Not to mention a massively successful acting career that anyone would kill for
If you're going to debate then fair enough, but there's no need to just make stuff up
Re: My MADONNA tickets!
I dont know if this has been posted somewhere else but I've just found the setlist and I have to say that I wish I was going to see this live.
The Beast Within
Vogue
Nobody Knows Me
Frozen
American Life
Express Yourself
Burning Up
Material Girl
Hollywood
Hanky Panky
Deeper And Deeper
Die Another Day
Lament
Bedtime Story
Nothing Fails
Don't Tell Me
Like A Prayer
Mother And Father
Imagine [Cover-Version of the classic John Lennon-song]
Into The Groove
Papa Don't Preach
Crazy For You
Music
Holiday
I would love to see 'Hanky Panky' and 'Vogue' live again...
Although apparently all the hype about the tour being a complete sellout is false. If you look on ticketmaster you can easily get good seats still, for a good few shows.
Quote:I simply stated that christina does not need to use images of the war and 3rd world countries in her concerts
Where as Christina uses her vagina and tits. Id rather go see Madonna than Christina. My sister said she went to see Christina and it was boring.
Im currently bidding on ebay for tickets for Madonna so hopefully i will win them, i willing to pay up to £900 for good seats. (well my bf's gold card is)

Rolling Stone Review - Madonna Reinvents Herself
Posted: 25 May 2004
Amid images of war and peace, pop star shows she can sing - By Barry Walters
After twenty years in the limelight, Madonna is expected to cause controversy and reinvent herself for every new tour. So for the May 24th Los Angeles opening of her Re-Invention world trek, Madonna did the most unexpected thing she could: She came back as a great concert singer.
Even the most diehard Madonna fan will concede that her live performances have almost without exception been plagued by a multitude of missed notes, breathy passages, and, as of late, fake British accents. But while Mariah and Whitney have of been losing the acrobatic vocal dexterity and lung power on which their reputations rest, forty-five-year-old Madonna, whom few have ever taken seriously as a musician, has never sounded better than she did during the first of several gigs in her adopted West Coast home.
Whether rocking out with classic black Les Paul in hand during a metallic rendition of her early club hit 'Burning Up,' or performing 'Like a Prayer' behind a screen-projected gospel choir, Madonna belted, and did not once seemed strained. In the midst of a $1 million production festooned with a walkway that jutted out from the stage and over the audience, massive moving video screens, a dozen dancers, a bagpipe player, a stunt skateboarder and a whole lot of emotionally charged anti-war imagery, the focus was nevertheless on Madonna, and how she's matured into a truly great pop singer.
Opening with a yoga-trained twist on her famous Louis XIV-inspired MTV Video Music Awards rendition of 'Vogue' and ending on a kilt-wearing finale of 'Holiday' against a video backdrop of national flags that eventually morphed into one, the show was thematically simpler and more focused than her last several productions.
The barbarism of war and the necessity of love were at the heart of the entire show, and both played off each other, sometimes for ironic and decidedly uneasy effect. The original military-themed video footage of 'American Life' that the singer withheld at the start of the Iraq war was finally unveiled, and then expanded upon during 'Express Yourself,' where Madonna sang her anthem of unbridled, intimate communication in front of dancers dressed as soldiers and goose-stepping with twirling rifles.
By contrast, Madonna closed an extended acoustic section of the show with a straightforward and thoroughly committed rendition of John Lennon's 'Imagine' as images of war and poverty-ravaged children eventually gave way to footage of a Muslim boy and his Israeli counterpart smiling as they walked with their arms wrapped around each other.
The heaviness of much of the imagery was balanced by Madonna's own presence, which seemed remarkably fun-loving and self-assured for the opening night of her most technically complex production. Only when she strapped on an acoustic or electric guitar during several songs and repeatedly glanced at her left hand to make sure it was playing the proper chords did she seem at all nervous. "How many people out there really think that I am the Material Girl?" she asked during a break in her most iconic early smash as she strummed with much deliberation.
For the last several songs, Madonna and her dancers donned black and white kilts, an apparent nod to husband Guy Ritchie's Scottish heritage, and black T-shirts that read 'Kabbalists Do It Better,' a cheeky reference to both her religious studies and the 'Italians Do It Better' T-shirt she wore during her video for 'Papa Don't Preach,' a song that was performed without the 'near-naked pregnant women' described in pre-tour reports of the show.
In a number dedicated for the 'fans that've stood by me for the last twenty years,' she sang her earliest hit ballad, 'Crazy For You,' earnestly and without contrivance.
Madonna's continued relevance was impressive, but it was even more striking that she's putting more love and genuine passion into her spectacle than ever.

I go for voice, as long as they can perform live. I do not like a concert made up of visuals, cause it takes away from what i'm there for, the music. Having the ability to sing live is more of a talent than basically going through a choreographed scene/stunt. I don't go to a concert to see them act, i go to see them sing.
Quote:I wasn't talking about UK success, but success on a worldwide scale is much more important to me. Obviously not to you, obviously....
Can never tell with you, only the other day you were talking about UK success. And no, Global success of an artist is not important to me. It's important to them certainly, but it is of no concern to me. But of course i'd be happy for them.
Quote:Exactly, she grasped it with both hands when someone wrote it and gave it to her. It's not like she had any input into the song - only reason she was successful is because it was a good song. Revival didn't last long did it? A year later she was still the same ol' washed-up has-been....
The reason it was successful was it was a good song, and a good singer behind it. Put the likes of weak-voiced Britney or Madonna behind it and i personally don't think it would have been as successful. Cher has one of the most unique sounding voices in the business.
Quote:Where as Christina uses her vagina and tits. Id rather go see Madonna than Christina. My sister said she went to see Christina and it was boring.
Was it not madonna who whipped her tits and minge out for a nude photoshoot for a book??? And given that your taste in music includes Britney and Madonna, i don't exactly have high hopes for the rest of your family.
GMTV reviewed her tour this morning, with video footage of Vogue and Frozen. And given that madonna sounded shakey whilst standing still singing frozen, she must have mimed for Vogue cause she was too clear and perfect for someone who was dancing as good as the dancers, but stuggled with a simple ballad.
