The Rewards of Immortality? (Open! Come play!)
Late afternoon. Classes are done for the day, and the sun is just a glimmer of red above a cloud bank. The library is quiet. Very quiet. The librarians are pleased. Nobody's acted up today. Nobody's tried to steal the books behind the librarian's desk (in the cage, a la Buffy). The students who have come in have been studious.

Witness, for instance, Genevieve. She's seated at a table, her knees pressed together and turned slightly to the side. One elbow is on the table, and she's cupping her chin in her hand. In her other hand is a pen, and open on the table is an algebra book. Her lovely, golden eyes drift from the crisp white notebook paper to the sums in the algebra book, and the only sound at her table is the sound of the pen scratching away at the table.

(That, and the shadows between pages taunting her with the answer key . . .)

Re: The Rewards of Immortality? (Open! Come play!)
A boy with sandy blond hair and green eyes came walking in. He wasn't to concerned with the fact that he had made a small bit of noise when he came in. He seemed lost in thought about something. He gave a small nod to the girl at the table as he went by. He went to the encyclopedia section.

Running his fingers along the bindings he was looking for something. "M ... lets see m..m..m.m.m..m .. Ah." He said as he pulled out the book that had everything from word like man to words like optical. The boy then went and sat at a table that wasn't to far from Genevieve's table. Flipping through the pages made a soft pattering sound.

"Mamie, Male body parts, Medicine, Muscular -- to far." The boy said as he had to flip back. "Ah ha!" The boy said just a slightly bit loud. "Memory. The part that holds in and stores memory -- I know that already." Hisoka said as he continued to read more. "Severe trauma can cause a short or long term memory loss. I think we are speaking long term but the doctors never said I had an injury just a terminal illness so I must count that out." Hisoka said.

He read all the way to where it started talking about Memos. Hisoka got frustrated and slammed then book shut. "Ah gees. These books do not help." He said. "I give up." Hisoka said and he laid his hands on the front cover of the book and rested his head on the backs of his hands. He then got up but ended up sitting back down because he hit his foot on the table leg. Hisoka grabbed his foot and was really struggling to not yell out the most horrible words that everyone hates to hear let alone the fact he was in the library.

Hisoka nods to V, but she didn't catch it; she was that engrossed in her schoolwork. (Model student. Home schooled, so to speak, for most of her life.) Memory, the boy says, and V's gaze flickers from the numbers on her page, in her neat and small handwriting, to his table.

He's speaking very loudly. Does he even realize it? V watches him as he reads the part of memory, and then talks to himself, and then slams the book shut. Eventually, she pulls her eyes back to her work; still, he talks. She's very good at tuning people out, but . . .

When Hisoka begins to jump up and down grabbing his foot mouth stretched out in an almost yell, she looks up again. Says, low-voiced: "Are you okay?"

"No!" He wispers back and he seemed to have a cocky smart mouth tone. "Not only do I still have no clue as to how I was murdered but now my foot hurt." HE added then he realized to things. One he was very rude and two he just told another person that he was dead.

"Sorry." He said as he put his foot down. "I didn't mean to snap like that." He added. "It's just fustrating to not be able to find out the exact truth you know?" Hisoka asked. He grabbed the book and placed it in his left hand. "I guess books can't find the answers to the impossible questions huh?" He added.. Hisoka's eyes showed that they looked like his hopes were smashed to pieces again.

The library seems even quieter after his harsh (cocky, smart-ass) whisper. Hey, is that the sound of a cricket? Why, yes; yes it is. While the cricket chirrups, the lovely, golden-haired and golden-eyed teenager gazes at Hisoka. Blinks, once.

"No," she says, and really, this is how people know that she's cool. Level headed. Serious. Because she doesn't react as if she's phased. Roll with the punches. "Books can help, but the answers to impossible questions have to be found."

But the truth is -- there is the slightest bit of tension coiling at the nape of her neck now. He's dead. Is he a --

"You're dead. Are you a spirit?"

Hisoka shook his head. "I am sometimes prefer to not be noticed but I am no spirit." Hisoka said. "No angel or zombie either." Hisoka added. "And these books seem to not hold the answers that I want." Hisoka said. "If you want to know what I am then it is a Shinigami." He said.

'It always seems easier to not keep secrets then it is to keep secrets even my own.' Hisoka thought to himself as he put the book back the came to where Genevieve was sitting at. "If there is a newspaper reel around here somewhere I can tell you a lot easier of who I am now and who I used to be then." Hisoka said in a whisper.

He comes over, and she covers her mouth with her hand; this hides and stifles an almost laugh! It's really so tiny as to go unnoticed. (But why would it be there, at all?) After that moment, eyes so quickly closed, her eyelashes lift to see Hisoka right there, earnest as the day is yellow, and whispering to her.

"You can tell me whatever you wish," says she, coolly, and serious-eyed again;

when is she not serious?

And when would she turn down free information?

But, serious, she also comes over all thoughtful. He calls himself a shinigami, as if that wasn't the same thing as a death god, as if a death god wasn't just another member of the spirit world, as if . . . Oh, definitions. They're difficult things.

"You can tell me whatever you wish,"

Hisoka spotted a newsreel. "Come on." He said and he went over to where they have the little tiny things of film. He found the one that said May-June 2004 on it. He quickly put it in and turned it on. He flipped through it until he found what he was looking for. "Here it is." Hisoka said. "Go a head and read it.." He added.

Hisoka Kurosaki

Passed away June 4th, 2004 in the
hospital around 2 am. The doctors said
it was some new terminal illness. Hisoka
Kurosaki was just 16 years old. What is
worse is no family members came to
the viewing or funeral. The only ones
that came were the doctors and
nurses who cared for the young man
while he was in the hospital for three years.

IT had a photo of Hisoka of when he first came to the hospital. "Dang I looked so young in that photo." Hisoka said. "They were wrong. It wasn't a terminal illness." Hisoka added. He kept his voice low so that only Genevieve could hear him.

He spots the newsreel; microfilm is a thing of the past, but school's are often the last places to update. Come on, he says, and the girl he's decided to tell his death's story to regards him as he stands and makes his way over to the room full of microfilm. She glances at her notebook, her crisp and neat handwriting, her algebra book. Then she stands, as clean as a knife pulled from a sheath -- and she follows. Simple curiosity?

He's almost frenetic; so full of energy, doing everything so quickly. V stands in the doorway, rests a shoulder against the doorframe while he sets the film up -- and then gestures for her to 'go ahead and red it.'

It, being, apparently, an obituary. He's acting secretive now, and V's lovely, golden eyes slide from the obituary to Hisoka, attentive.

"It wasn't a terminal Illness." Hisoka said. "I don't know how but it was murder." He added. "Someone caused me to looked like I was sick and make me feel like I was sick." He added. Hisoka clentched his hand into a fist. "There is a memory that is missing. A blanked out time from between the night I went out for a walk and the time I found myself on the ground in front of my house with my clothes undone." Hisoka said.

"Oh sorry My name is Hisoka." He said as he realized he was very rude not to introduce himself before the paper did. "But I guess you know that huh?" He added as he gave a sigh.

Genevieve takes a step away from the microfilm viewer, and turns her head (swan-smooth) to glance once more at her table, which is visible through the door. This, just to check and make sure her things go unmollested. Then her attention returns to Hisoka. The dead boy.

Contemplative, her lashes lower; her gaze is in shadow, opaque. What is she thinking?

Says, "What was special about you?"

"What was special about you?"

"I don't know." Hisoka said. "Maybe I saw something I shouldn't have." He added. "Maybe that was why I was ..." Hisoka gave a sigh as he closed his eyes for a momment. "... murdered." He said as he opened his eyes. "But I became a Shinigami to try and find out who did it. But all I got at Meifu was that it wasn't a illness but might be murder." Hisoka said. He then turned away from the news paper machine.

He put his hands in his pocket and looked down at the floor. He smirked as his shoes didn't match well with the floor. "It was lack of evidence that has it being questionable." Hisoka said. "But anyways may I ask what your name is?" He asked as he did not recall getting it at all yet.

Re: The Rewards of Immortality (Open! Come play!)
The gold [rage, rage against the dying of the light--] eyes narrow, slightly, as if against a sudden brightness. Her slender pianists fingers lift to tender a strand of hair behind one ear, and she doesn't answer immediately. The pause is slightly unnatural, as is the cessation of a breath: breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, skip, breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out.

His shadow's voice is as distinct as its master, and it begins to speak of a man, and of a murder.

But you would never know it from the way Genevieve carries herself. Says, with one of her serious looks, "Why would you think that your murderer has lost interest in you, just because you're dead?" Then, softens the words (perhaps) with this - "My name is V."

"Why would you think that your murderer has lost interest in you, just because you're dead?"

Wow she's good at figuring out what I am thinking about. Hisoka thought to himself. He then brushed the sandy blond hair from his eyes. He moved his hand up his forehead and through his hair. As he did this he was pulling his hair back but as his hand passed over it his hair lightly moved back to the place it was. "Well, I did think that but now I am not so sure." Hisoka said.

His green eyes looked right into her golden eyes. "It's nice to meet you V." He said with a smile. "What year are you in?" He asked her. Hisoka's mind was still filled with the images of his years in the hospital.

"I see." She doesn't inquire further. Genevieve is, herself, a private person. She has never told anybody her life story, and what she tells usually lacks key details and significant qualifiers. So, it's true; she does see (for Genevieve is not without empathy), perhaps more than Hisoka does, even though he's meeting her lovely golden eyes. Because gold is a colour akin to light, a radiance, and that which is radiant is also blinding. "And, I'm a sophomore. But I have junior english."

"Wow," Hisoka said. "I'm a sophomore and have a sophomare english class." Hisoka said. Hisoka decided it best to turn off the news paper reel and put the flim back before anyone else could see it and find out the truth. "So guess you can see why I am trying to find any new info on memory loss then huh V?" Hisoka asked. "I just can't let it go." He said.

"Even if nothing is gained by me finding out I just have to know how." He added. He looked down at the floor then looked at V again. "So you need any help with your work?" He asked as he was once again back to acting as if nothing had happened by using a calm voice.

Sarcasm ? No. Genevieve scrutinizes Hisoka and (so gold) then glances away, back toward her table with books and papers. "No," she says, and this is how you know that V, although she's improved, still isn't used to people. Especially people her age. But the voice of Hisoka's shadow rivals his own voice, and there was a murder, and then there was a curse, and . . .

Throat works; she inhales, holds her breath for a beat or two, and then releases. "But if you need help with yours, you're welcome to ask." That said, she turns and walks back to her table; she doesn't mean to be rude, but she's a cautious creature, and she'd like to place a bit of distance between herself and the moral dilemma.

Hisoka gave a sigh. He looked around. He didn't want to feel like someone in need but he didn't want to feel lost either. He followed V back tot he table. "You don't Suspose they got a book and how a person mysteriously loses his memory right?" He asked.

Re: The Rewards of Immortality (Open! Come play!)
Lucian was sitting across from them in a adjacent table from V and Hisoka. He had recently discovered the library here a new student unfamiliar with the campus. His nose was buried in a very thick hard-cover black book something written by Edgar Allen Poe. Probably, a assemblage of the author's works. One of the reasons he didn't notice the two of them talking. His feet was promptly resting on the chair next to him as a foot stool.

He was something of a horror-suspense junkie you can't get any more horror, then the original master of it. Almost a poetric fear in his words. Looking up a thing he rarely did when readying a book he heard somebody speak it took him out of the setting of "The Masque of the Red Death." to the library. Looking up slightly enticed to the mention of."You don't Suspose they got a book and how a person mysteriously loses his memory right?"

He blinked a couple times muttering to himself. " I hope he didn't forget to read, then what good would a book do him?" It didn't sound demeaning it almost sounded dumb-founded he took a shrug, then kind of loud he said, "If it wasn't a blow to the head it's either psychological, chemical induced, magical, hyponitical or any other slew of reasons."

He got Shhheed right away from the other people in the library. Just trying to help the wondering student. A soft sigh escaped his lips knew that was coming back to reading about "The Masque of the Red Death."

Hisoka takes a seat near Genevieve, and Genevieve picks up her pencil again. The eraser looks almost entirely fresh and unused, just the faintest of pale smudged at the very edge; it's all very precise, it's all very neat and economical.

Genevieve doesn't answer immediately, and in the interim, Lucian mutters and then voices his question, gaze drawn from his Poe (and all things ghastly, terrible and insidious; that man could wield a pen the way Morpheus could wield nightmares), to his fellow students at the library table. She glances over at him, and then at the students who shushed him so loudly; there's a slight shake of her head.

"Perhaps," she says, cool and casual, and quiet, quiet, "you should look up curse seals."

The man in his banana suit marched up the stairs of the library, he knew his was a bad idea. She had told him he would be paid triple the original price, and this would cost. The box was still in perfect shape he moved ito start asking the tables if they new this V person. He started with the first group of students, then another. Fianlly as he got more and more fed up. He came to a group and he was fed up.

" Hello I am looking for some one named V, i need to deliver this package. Can you guys point me inthe right direction. "

He shifts the box to his ther arm and begins to set it down, his voice is a bit loud and would draw attention.

( OOC: and yes this would be the table with V and Hisoka. And i swear))
