We have added a few things to the requirements to power and ability upgrades. Be sure and read the details in the most recent update when you request a new power / upgrade.
Well, its the weekend here at MHS. Wouldn't it be great if all schools started on a Friday for the first day of school. What a way to start off. You get a weekend right after your first day. Well, this is because we are done with the first day of class. How so you ask. As you only went to one class. yes, but I am sure that doing the same thing for each class would get boring. So the one class you experienced is basically how all the classes are going to be.
Teacher posts role. Day gets started, end of class happens, everyone goes to their next class, or home..
Well, ezboard still hasn't confirmed anything on a final date when everything is changed over to Yuku. And we are working on what to do next. We all want user friendliness after everything is changed away from Ezbaord, and we are trying everything we can to ensure that we have just that when we are at a new board hosting site.
We have a guest book. Take a look. If you haven't taken a look yet, be sure and do so. ^_^

A knife of embarassment shot through Darrien's mind as his display was taken so lightheartedly. "It's meant to be quick and fluid, so no matter what I always have an offensive. Breakdancing is a little less controlled, I can do that too, but why?" he said, attempting to regain some swaggering composure.
"I don't believe I've heard much about you miss V, you've been an enigma never spoken of around me." he said, looking for more information on the girl. "Do you have any talents worthy of the gossip of the students?"
Viva la Coolie!
Re: Terra Firma (open)
"It was quick," V replies, and her hand leaves her waist and her hip; a natural stance. The focused intensity of her gold [molten] eyes softens somewhat. Lifts, and there are many different shades of gold, to Darrien's eyes. "I've never seen of anything like that. Do you usually practice alone?"
And then she bends and picks up the pink [as clouds, bloodied by sunset - feathers] fedora and flicks off a few strands of grass, turning it over in her hands to make certain it didn't sustain any damage from the fall.
Her heart clangs, a nervous jangle, in response to his question. But she replies, after a brief (and, it must be owned, slightly cooler than any of her responses have been heretofor) pause. "I'm good at tennis, but so many of our classmates are physically - spectacular - I don't think it's very much to talk about."
Re: Terra Firma (open)
"I try to stay away from the gym after my first work out there, the basketball team was less than pleased. In my defense, they were in my way." he said with a playful wink. He didn't want a reputation as a bully in the school, and having to continually cost the team twenty two ninety five for a new ball would have probably landed that for him.
She wore his hat, his hair danced in the wind. It was a bit bit of a reversal from how they began this conversation in the meadow, yet it remained quite cool on them both. No nerves took over, no blubbering or stammering of words, not even a wince between replies. V's quick pause was no different, Darrien didn't pick up on any uncertainty or nevousness at all.
"From what I've seen, there's a distinct lack of athletic talent here, aside from track where the super speedsters would probably thrive. Too many seem to focus on their..." he made quotation marks in the air with his fingers "...talents to practice a sport. I'd love to play you sometime, though tennis isn't my strong suit." he said playfully. Borderline flirtatiously. He had a problem with that, just spouting off without thinking whether or not he was being too forward or reserved. Second guessing was something he avoided like the plague, and when someone made him do it, he grew wary of them instantly.
Viva la Coolie!
Re: Terra Firma (open)
"What happened with the basketball team?" V cants her head, inquisitive; she's always been wary, and that wariness has, more often than not, translated to curiosity. She makes such a good audience: a born listener. However, when he says -- borderline flirt, Darrien's style -- he'd like to play tennis sometime, her chin lifts, slightly, and her attention is different. "Really? I'd like that - it would be nice to play tennis with someone who doesn't have super strength. My arm is strong," and here, she lifts a hand to touch her shoulder, rub it, "but it's not that strong."
Re: Terra Firma (open)
"Well, I was working out, and they seemed to want to play where I was working out, and then their ball and my daggers had a good hug. The ball came back a little less satisfied than my steel though." he said as if it were a normal occurrence for him to slash a sport's ball to ribbons.
Sliding the glasses down to the tip of his nose, he surveyed the girl's biceps as she pointed them out. Reching forward, he gently pinched down on the arm she was displaying, then quickly pulled back his hand. "If that's your arm, I'd hate to see those with the super strength." he said coolly.
Viva la Coolie!
Re: Terra Firma (open)
V's smiles are so rare. Too rare to be squandered even now. But a smile is not the only expression of pleasure, and V's gaze lightens (a luminous creature) slightly, shadows swept away like cobwebs. Still, V is almost always serious, always in careful control of herself; this moment is no different. But she's also a fifteen year old girl in a high school full of super men (and women) who can accomplish physical feats she might manage to do in a dream.
"You're really charming." An observation and a compliment. The story is interesting too, of course. Noted. Noted. But she can't tell how much of Darrien's attitude is bravado, how much is sincere. "Did they get another ball?"
The words took a second to settle in. Had this solemnly soft, yet stone-faced golden girl really dispensed such an honest compliment? To the embodiment of the exact opposite features no less? "Why thank you, I do what I can with what I have." he said with a bow just as flashy as his attire.
Then she asked about the incident. True, Darrien may have overreacted. Truer still, he was in their way more than they were in his. "Yes, I had to buy them a new one to make peace. The coach was more than happy to accept the offering, and now I've changed my training time so that I don't interfere with them too much."
Viva la Coolie!
Re: Terra Firma (open)
"I don't think I've ever actually seen the P.E. coach. He must be quite intimidating."
Anyone who teaches physical education at MHS must be -- it seems a given. Super strength and super speed -- or perhaps some power which forces students to work as 'team players' but get into a 'competitive spirit'. Perhaps he has a power that freezes them in their tracks regardless of power. Perhaps he can kill with a look ...
And Genevieve is a listener. She be collected and poised, but she also sounds interested. Not for her the monotone of no emotion -- she has emotions. They're simply her emotions, which she chooses to keep private.
Re: Terra Firma (open)
Thinking for a second, Darrien cracked a sweet, warm smile. "Truthfully, when I was paying him back for the ball I popped, I tried not to look in his face. I'd rather not get familiar with the faculty if I can avoid it." His swagger carried him effortlessly through the words, and his charm kept them from sounding crazy and ill-placed.
"I prefer it alone usually, other people ruin my rhythm." he said flatly and without remorse. In any other setting, he was as social as your drunk uncle at the family reunion. Something about the conflicting energy of another person made him find training with another to be quite difficult. "Howabout you? What do you do when you're alone?" his smile never wavering, his body staying completely loose, his composure kept perfectly clean.
Viva la Coolie!
Re: Terra Firma (open)What do you do when you're alone?
"Nothing."
The reply is automatic, and so natural it won't seem odd immediately. It's so difficult to be alone; everything casts a shadow, except ghosts . . .
The meadow is an open expanse of green grass and wind. The air is an artform with no lines and no edges; only currents, and fragrances, the leading edge of rain three cities away. Sunset comes quickly, and the light is mostly gone -- but the lightning bugs are out: they flash, erratic things, fey and bright. Wandering through the grass, around the edge of the meadow.
"But it's hard to be truly alone." This is not a lie, and yes, she is ammending her original statement; make it sound less strange. "I practice piano and study. Who first taught you how to dance fight?"
This girl was obviously unique, her poise when she spoke, the calm in her lips, she didn't seem at all uncomfortable or intimidated around Darrien. Not that either of those were natural reactions to the young man, generally in a first conversation, or in their case second, one of the members of the discussion always showed signs of uncertainty about conversing with the other. Not this time, however, both students kept their composure wonderfully.
"I was taught first by a man my dad hired. He didn't like using names when we worked, so I only knew him as teacher. Kinda dull old man, but he got me where I am today." he said without taking his eyes from hers. Sweeping his hands out to take hold of hers, he quickly examines them. "Your hands are soft and limber, anyone could guess you're proficient with the piano just by looking at them." Releasing her hands, he turned his gaze back to her eyes. "I'd love to hear you play sometime, maybe I could dance to one of your songs." That smile came back again. The one that could melt a glacier, and at the same time make it question why it was frozen so long anyway. The smile that kept his innocense.
Viva la Coolie!
Re: Terra Firma (open)
Darrien's eloquent gesture lifts her hands for examination; it's fair to say this takes V by surprise, and it shows, a brief and mild reign of legible emotion.
Perhaps the exceedingly perceptive would notice a wariness to the set of her shoulders; he could have a power which allows him to see the future in the palm of her hands, and she doesn't want to be told that she's doomed. While he's studious, he is also a study, for V studies him; covert and quiet.
When his eyes lift to hers again, she rubs her hands together, ghost warmth of another, and lifts her chin slightly -- the idea is a sudden spill of illumination. "Really? That could be fun."
Re: Terra Firma (open)
The hint of a smile, the opening of the eyes, there were different ways to show appreciation. Darrien used a much more pronounced arsenal of facial expressions than most, and it seemed V was nearly the opposite. Displaying any sort of appreciative reaction was subtle, if even there at all. It was situations like these that made Darrien work that much harder to draw out those expressions.
"You're the first person I've met here that's musically talented." he said, turning away from her and returning his eyes to the sky. Clouds scattered all over the blue backdrop, creating all sorts of shapes and illusions. "Where did you live before coming out here miss V?"
Viva la Coolie!
Re: Terra Firma (open)
The briefest of instants; less than a heartbeat's worth of time passes. Darrien's looking away; he misses V's gaze turn inward, as impenetrable and opaque as a thick block of glass all drenched in sun and candlelight.
"My family," she answers. Her voice is so quiet, but steady. "But I rarely left our house, except for the occasional supervised trip to a city they thought I should see.
"And there are actually quite a few people who are talented on the piano at Manga High School. I hear Meliah is particularly good."
Re: Terra Firma (open)
Quietly, V described, although rather breifly, where she was from and a bit of her family. "Sounds like you had a rather strict upbringing. I'm probably the exact opposite. I had quite the carefree home life." Not that such a thing wasn't obvious by his dimeanor and tone of voice, hearing his own voice say it made him consider settling down some.
This notion passed quickly. His carefree attitude was as much a part of him as his hair, or his smile, and he would be damned if any of that would change. "I don't believe I've met Meliah, though I'd certainly like to be the judge of such a talent contest." He locked his gaze on Geneveive's eyes, careful not to allow this discussion to end.
Viva la Coolie!
The school has so much time offered for casual discussion and random meetings, and that's what high school is all about isn't it? Not the school work, certainly. Now: V hasn't met Meliah personally, although she knows (at least) about her musical ability, and could pick her face out of a crowd, and has been able to ever since the girl's sleepover in the cafeteria. It's difficult to go to the same school for a long time without at least hearing about other students.
She meets Darrien's gaze, serenely; it's easy to see she lacks the competitive streak (or is it easy to see? Illusions?) of so many of their fellow students. If she truly were composed, the way a line of music is composed, his presence isn't enough to add another theme, yet -- although he's a theme (and a symphony) all on his own.
Re: Terra Firma (open)
If Darrien and V were flowers, Darrien was most certainly a tiger lily, while V was more of a tulip. The brightly colored, vibrant tiger lily demands attention, it doesn't allow itself to go unnoticed in any situation. The tulip on the other hand, was the seemingly reluctant object of so many's affection. Both were similar in their own qualities, yet they were so different in the way they achieved them.
"I was an only child, do you have any siblings miss V?" he asked, softening his expression and turning slightly away from her. It was odd, the types of people you meet in different situations. V wasn't someone Darrien would stumble across in the crowded halls of the school, or the evergoing party of the dorm building's lobby. It was by complete happenstance that he stumbled upon her in the meadow, a rare moment where he preferred solace to excitement. This was a choice he was beginning to enjoy more and more.
"A contest would be a fine idea, apart from the usual martial arts tournaments I have yet to notice any sort of contest around the school just yet."
Viva la Coolie!
Re: Terra Firma (open)
"No. But my family is extended; there has always been somebody."
V laces her fingers together behind her back. The movement lifts her shoulders, slightly; a lock of hair slips along the curve of the right, shines by her neck. The lace-of-fingers becomes habitual posture: hands clasp her elbows, feet slightly together, one lifted slightly.
"You're lucky; there was another contest, but it didn't last." V turns her head, to once again regard Darrien; a thoughtful expression. The moment he looks back, though, she lets her shoulders rise and fall, and glances again up at the darkening sky. The meadow hushes in the wind.
Re: Terra Firma (open)
The contest V spoke of piqued Darrien's interest. Was it some sort of martial arts tournament? Maybe like the ones he read about, where you weren't declared the winner unless your opponent could no longer breath? Possibly something simpler? Perhaps V had lost a previous musical contest and wasn't interested in another? Any way you took it, Darrien was a competitor, and a contest of any kind made him feel that little burn on the back of his neck.
"Care to allow an inquiring mind in on what this regretable contest may have been?"
Viva la Coolie!
Re: Terra Firma (open)
Unexpected! But it should have been. V doesn't gossip (not, anyway, with people. Was it possible she forgot who she was talking to, for a moment? That Darrien's flamboyant presence could be shadowy?).
"Ah. That." She curves a lock of hair behind her left ear, distant and detached. "It was a competition between two girls. To see who could get the most boys."
"Do you have a favorite time of day?"
