Re: Terra Firma (open)
"Is that strange?" V doesn't sound like an artificially constructed teenager. Her tone is inquisitive, surprised; mild and cool. The rain wishes it could be quite as cool (and it can't, because it lacks that human capacity for warmth). She tucks a strand of hair behind her ear, and follows the line from Darrien's finger to the puddle which had formed.

One heartbeat. Then, "Okay."

"Not terribly so, most think it a bit peculiar to willingly get yourself wet with rain water, but splashing through the puddles is always a fun way to pass the day." The smile on his face was bright enough to light the inside of a black hole, and his radiating personality had more pulling power. The tree they too their refuge under kept them mostly dry, which made Darrien infinitely less suspicious of it.

"Does it rain like this a lot around here?"

Re: Terra Firma (open)
Abstracted, Genevieve's radiant gaze lifts from the muddying meadow and fastens on the boughs over their head. A fixed look, like a cat's; and without blame, as blank as a cup of wine, and as dense with heady thought. "Who taught you to play in puddles?"

Darrien's voice brings her attention back to him, if not, immediately, the touch of her glance. "I've been caught in a few storms here; they come quickly, but leave quickly, too. Lightning."

That last was a comment of note - because lightning just sizzled its signature, white and blindingly radiant, across the sky.

Considering the question, Darrien's eyes followed the cascading bolt of lightning as it tore through the sky. "Isn't it amazing how someone caught one of those, then figured out how to use it to make things work?" he asked through his mezmerization.

"I don't believe anyone taught me per say, one day I was locked out of my house for a few hours and it started pouring. My parents came home to see me teaching the neighboorhood kids a game to try and make the biggest splash in a puddle. They were kinda mad that all the other kids' parents made them pay for the cold medicine for everyone, but I thought it was great fun."

The smirk that overtook his face could crack glass. Looking down to V's eyes, he couldn't help but wish the rain would stop falling soon.

Re: Terra Firma
As Darrien tells his story, Genevieve listens; if she's ever been good at anything in the world, it was listening. He also paints a picture she can see very clearly, although she has no idea what Darrien's hair color might have been; something bright and flamboyant. He probably made the biggest splash, too.

There's another small measure of silence. Darrien isn't entirely comfortable with silence; V is. (But it's never really quiet to her, hm?) Thunder rumbles overhead, seems loud enough to vibrate in the marrow of the bones and shake up the heartbeat. The thunder would play people like maraccas if it could.

And then lightning, again, zigzagging across the horizon, a violet, vibrant, violent snake.

"I think I would be too frightened." To grab one of those, and make something out of it. "I don't have the necessary - ah - genius. But they don't completely understand it yet. People have survived being struck by lightning."

Finally, V looks away from the boughs above, dripping, dripping, drip-drop, and at the sky. There is, actually, visible sky off to the west -- dark, but visible as sky, not storm cloud. "Do you miss all your friends from before you came here?"

Re: Terra Firma
"Somewhat I suppose, I hadn't really thought about them much lately." His voice was light and fun as always, Darrien wasn't one to let anything bring his self esteem down. In the few quick months he had been at this campus, he developed quite a friendship with a few people.

"Howabout you miss Genevieve? Anyone from your home you'd like to see again?" He ran a hand through his hair, shaking a few drops of water to the ground.

Re: Terra Firma
"Oh?" Opaque; glass. "No." Simplicity, thy name is Genevieve Vendetta. For the sake of courteous, she doesn't stop there. Miniscule pause; take a breath of the rainswept air, a draught against night terrors. "I miss my family, sometimes, but it's nice to be on my own."

The girl glances, once more, at the branches that hang, protective, over their heads. The barrage of rain drops against the leaves soothes, calms -- begins to trickle away.

Re: Terra Firma
Family. It had been a while since Darrien had thought of his own. He still felt abandoned by his father, but recent events had led him to believe that this place may not be as bad as he thought.

"When was the last time you ate? My stomach is starting to make a case for dinner."
