Re: Reading (Thorny)

" Well, I wouldn't want other girls around me like that, especially if I knew that I liked Stella. If I knew that, I wouldn't give any girls who wanted me a second look that way."

Hawthorne smiled. Was this boy anything less than perfect? She didn't think so. He was debonair, gentlemanly, poetic, romantic. She could just picture him and Stella getting close. Mind you, it would be the slowest-moving relationship on the face of the planet. Which would be so cute!

"Good. It's nice to see that there are men out there who still believe in loyalty and commitment. I was beginning to fear that they were a dying breed. I hope you do take to our Stella, because that would be sweet."

She smiled at Lucas, kindly. She knew she was prolly embarassing him hard-core.

"Anyways, what else are you into, Lucas? Besides poetry, and obviously music."

Lucas nodded. He'd never met anyone who was like him, at least on the loyalty and commitment side of things. That was just how he was raised, to know about those kind of things. He wondered why she thought that about men, she must have come into contact with a few unloyal men herself.

"Anyways, what else are you into, Lucas? Besides poetry, and obviously music."

He shrugged. Apart from those things, he didn't do that much. " I like to read and write as well." He began. " But because of the energy my powers take I have to keep fit, so I like a lot of outdoor activities as well." He explained.

Now that was a leading statement, if ever she had seen one. And Hawthorne was always one to take the bait that was dangling in front of her face. She grinned at Lucas.

"The energies your powers take, eh? And what kind of powers are those?"

She was always curious to see the powers of others, especially since her own abilities were so lame, at least in her own eyes. Still, she was used to showcasing them by now. At least they were unique.

"The energies your powers take, eh? And what kind of powers are those?"

" Well, they aren't powers for fighting, which is generally why I had to train by body as well." Lucas explained. He walked over to his saxophone case and knelt down beside it, opening the case and pulling something out. He moved back over to Hawthorne, standing up with a toy soldier in his hands. " It's called animation." He said.

Closing his eyes, he went silent. Suddenly, a bright yellow light came from Lucas' heart and flowed down his arms, then into the toy soldier. He opened his eyes once the light was gone. The small solder jumped off the plastic he was standing on. " Hawthorne, this is Jon. My grandfather gave him to me." He explained.

Jon looked up at the lady with a grin on his face. " The name's Jon, who are you?" He asked, extending his hand to shake hers, which was weird since Jon was only a few inches tall.

She knew the whole not for fighting side of powers. Her power was useless in a combat situation. Unless the damned llama landed on someone's head maybe, but that would only be a momentary distraction.

" Hawthorne, this is Jon. My grandfather gave him to me."
" The name's Jon, who are you?"

Hawthorne touched the tip of one finger to Jon's tiny hand. It was tentative, she didn't want to knock him over, or hurt him. That would be sad.

"Hello Jon, I'm Hawthorne. I'm a friend."

She smiled at Lucas. He might appreciate her power. She closed her eyes and concentrated, she was getting better at this lately. If she focused hard enough . . . POOF! The manky, dirty dolly landed in her outstretched arms. She opened her eyes and grinned at Lucas.

"This is Lily. She doesn't move or talk or anything like that, but she does come when I call."

Lucas allowed Jon to climb up onto his shoulder and sit down. He held onto the small plastic that Jon stood on in his hand and slid it into his pocket. " That's a very unique and interesting thing to do." Lucas commented, looking over the stuffed animal with his emerald green eyes. " Well, I can only make Jon for ten minutes at a time, or, that's what I like to limit it to." He explained. Jon stood up. " Yeah, and thats not enough time for a grown man like myself to live, now is it!" He said.

" That's a very unique and interesting thing to do."

She shrugged, not sure what to say to that. She wasn't really sure whether or not she liked her power, but she was getting used to it. She still didn't know why she named the damn thing after her dead sister though.

" Well, I can only make Jon for ten minutes at a time, or, that's what I like to limit it to."

"Lily seems to stick around as long as she's being paid attention to, but sometimes she blinks out regardless. It seems to be directly related to whether or not I am physically in contact with the toy."

" Yeah, and thats not enough time for a grown man like myself to live, now is it!"

She chuckled at Jon. "Hardly good sir, perhaps as Lucas improves we shall be able to spend more time with you."

Jon grunted at Hawthorne's comment as he looked over to Lucas. " Well I do need to be alive more, since I'm the one who's meant to me lookin' after ya." He commented, hitting Lucas on the head. He looked over at the toy. " Hey who looks after who in this relationship? I'm the one that gives you life." Lucas replied.

Jon simply pinched Lucas' cheek, and with small hands like that, it would hurt more than Jon expected. " Well who did the old man say was protecting who again? Last time I checked, it was me!" He replied, letting go of Lucas, who rubbed his cheek lightly. He looked back to Hawthorne. " Sorry, sometimes we have these kind of fights. You don't think it's weird, do you?" He asked.

Re: Reading (Thorny)

Weird didn't begin to describe it, but she summoned a stuffed llama, so how could she pass judgement on other people's foibles? She shook her head.

"Not really. My definition of weird has changed a lot since I arrived at MHS. I think you are both darling, and am glad you take care of one another."

A sudden thought struck her, and she looked at Lucas questioningly. She bet that Stella would be impressed by the boy's little friend.

"Have you met Stella yet, Jon?"

She figured that she should address questions about the little toy to him, at least while he was alive. Couldn't be rude now, could she?

"Have you met Stella yet, Jon?"

Jon sat back down and thought about it for a moment. He hadn't met many people, just some girl and another tough looking guy in the rooms. He looked to Lucas questionably. Lucas simply nodded. " Oh yeah, the one you thought was pretty!" He yelled, pointing at Lucas, who went red in the face a little.

Jon looked back to Hawthorne. " I've met her, she's Lucas' roommate, he thinks she's pretty, that's what he told me." He replied. Lucas quickly grabbed Jon from his shoulder. " Shut up I told you not to tell anyone!" He said.

" Oh yeah, the one you thought was pretty!"

Hawthorne started laughing, really laughing. The sound was still a little rusty, like wooden windchimes in the dead of winter, but it was a happy noise. She looked up at Lucas, whiping evidence of her mirth from her face.

" I've met her, she's Lucas' roommate, he thinks she's pretty, that's what he told me."
" Shut up I told you not to tell anyone!"

"Don't worry Lucas, it's not a crime for a boy to find a girl pretty. Besides, I know that Stella is gorgeous. Come on, all that long white hair? I envy it just a little."

She was glad someone this sweet had confided his appreciation of Stella in someone else. It made her smile. She could definitely play matchmaker here. This was gonna work!

Lucas shook his head at Hawthorne, holding onto Jon firmly in one hand so the toy couldn't speak. " It's not that. It's the fact that she is my roommate and things could get weird, especially if she didn't know, and then found out, and didn't like me that way. It's just..." He began.

Lucas sighed. He was frustrated at this whole 'infatuation' things that he got himself into. " I don't want that. You understand? It's not like I have anything wrong with the whole 'she's pretty' thing. I mean, she's beautiful! I'm surprised she doesn't have a boyfriend, when looking at her and... talking with her I just don't understand it." He explained.

Hawthorne nodded. She understood what he was thinking, but she felt that he was selling himself a little too short. He was a charming, romantic natured, soft-spoken fella, and he'd be perfect for Stella, if he'd just give it a chance.

"Maybe she was just waiting for the right person to come along. Girls do that, you know. You could let this whole thing pass you by, and then spend the rest of your life regretting it. How could you live with yourself after that?"

Lucas let go of Jon and pulled out the plastic he stood on. Jon went back and stood on it. The small amount of energy he still had in him was brought back to Lucas. " I suppose I should give it a try." He said. Lucas walked back over to his case and placed Jon inside of it. Last time he threw Jon he greatly regretted doing it afterwards.

" But I wouldn't know what to say to her. How do I tell someone this?" He asked.

Hawthorne smiled at Lucas' earnestness. He was obviously committed to taking this particular plunge. She better stop him before he rushed in too fast, and scared the poor girly away. She laid a gentle hand on Lucas' arm.

"You don't need to rush in and declare your undying love for her or anything just yet, Lucas. Ask her out on a few outings first, just as friends. Get to know eachother, see if you click. You can never tell if a couple is gonna work out until they actually interract with one another."

Though, who was she to be giving relationship advice out? none of hers ever worked. Mind you, it wasn't like she listened to her own advice . . .

Lucas nodded, he had been on dates before but never found a girl he thought he 'clicked' with. " I know, this whole situation has just come on too fast. I don't know that I can get close to her. Her brother Jun-Bo seems very... protective. If he had to interview me just to be her roommate, I can't think of what he would do if I asked her out. I suppose I'd need his consent." He explained.

Wondering what Jun-Bo would do, the emerald eyed boy thought about it for a moment. The guy didn't seem too strict, he was just concerned. If Lucas had a sister, he'd probably be the same way.

Hawthorne grinned, remembering earlier in the dorm rooms with Ryoko and Jun. She patted Lucas' head like an affectionate older sister.

"Lucky for you, I have the inside scoop on the whole Jun-Bo issue. We're pretty good friends. He has said that you were the only person he could immagine allowing to date his sister. That's rather high praise from his end of things . . ."

She wouldn't mention the symphony plans yet. That could be special for the two of them to discover together.

Lucas breathed a sigh of relief. At least that problem was out of the way. The next issue was figuring out how she felt. Lucas couldn't be the one to ask, and he certainly didn't want Jun-Bo to be the one to do it either. It was then that Lucas looked back at Hawthorne. She was perfect! She was friends with Stella and was a girl, so they could... talk and stuff! " Hey, if you know her, you could find out what she thinks about me, right?" He asked.

" Hey, if you know her, you could find out what she thinks about me, right?"

Hawthorne laughed. The boy was swift, she'd give him that. He quickly moved from point a, to point b, and then skipped right ahead to point d. She smiled at him, feeling even more like a big sister. He just encouraged those slightly maternal instincts within her. He was a little bit timid, just like her baby sister had been. She knew why Jun-Bo had adopted Stella as his little sister, she might do the same with lucas after a little while.

"I suppose I could do that for you, Lucas. After all, what are friends for, right? Besides, if she likes you too, this would be so awesome! I'd have two friends that are a couple!"

She thought about it. She'd have to hunt Stella down to accomplish this feat, but, since it was actually playing right into her hands, right alongside her own goals for the pair of them. It was too sweet.

Looking at her strangely, Lucas sighed. She seemed very interested in doing this, and if it was what he wanted, he wouldn't stop her, considering he asked her to do this as a favour. " Thank you Hawthorne. You're being pretty nice to a complete stranger." He replied. After all, they didn't really know that much about each other anyway. They may have been friends, but Lucas couldn't say he knew much about her.
