Re: Reading (Thorny)

" Thank you Hawthorne. You're being pretty nice to a complete stranger."

Hawthorne brushed off his thank-you. She wasn't really doing it for him, she was doing it for Stella. The girl needed a nice guy in her life, one that wasn't Jun-Bo. Thorne wasn't sure that he was the best influence on a young female anyway . . .

"Don't worry about it Lucas. You're Stella's roommate, and Jun-Bo said good things about you. That's enough of a recomendation in my books."

She thought about it a little more. He was a nice person, and he was a good conversationalist. Besides, Thorny didn't think that he would be that rough to have around. They needed more guys in their little group of people, otherwise Jun-Bo would overpower them all.

"So Lucas, what did you have planned for tonight?"

Lucas bent down and picked up his instrument, along with his glasses. " That's what I'm worried about." He muttered, before turning back to her. He didn't have to think about her next question. " Hm... I don't think I have anything planned. Do you?" Lucas asked. He may have had something going on but at that moment he couldn't remember anything really, he was too confused about the situation in front of him.

" That's what I'm worried about."

Thorne stifled a chuckle under her breath. She obviously wasn't supposed to hear that last statement, so Thorny didn't embarass Lucas any further by acknowledging it.

" Hm... I don't think I have anything planned. Do you?"

"Not particularly, no. Did you maybe wanna go play on the swings for a little while? I know that it is kinda a childish thing to do, but it's been awhile since I've been in a park, and I don't wanna do it alone."

She smiled sheepishly at the musician, shrugging her shoulders in feinged nonchalance. She really felt compelled to go play, but if he thought it was lame, she wouldn't do it.

Lucas looked over to the swings that were not that far away from where he was. He hadn't bothered to take in his surroundings when he first got there, and he didn't notice them before. Nodding, Lucas began to run towards the swings. " I'll race you!" He yelled, looking back at her. The fast young man even started running backwards so she had a little time to catch up.

" I'll race you!"

The boy took off, and Hawthorne grinned. Apparently he wasn't completely a poet and a musician, though he had mentioned keeping his body in shape earlier, so it made near-perfect sense. Still, as Thorny took off after Lucas, she noticed that he ran backwards, just like Jun-Bo did. That made her smile. She was pretty sure that the romantic fella and the samurai would get along just fine.

Hawty sped up, attempting to pass our resident sax-player in an attempt to get the best swing, which was obviously the one that was set at long-leg height, rather than short-leg height. It would be nice not to have to watch her legs in the sand. Still, she made it there a beat or two behind Lucas. Thorne stood there panting for a moment.

"Wow Lucas, you're fast."

"Wow Lucas, you're fast."

Lucas grinned as he offered the lady the best swing, in a gesture of kindness. He walked over and stood on the shorter swing, holding onto the chains with his hands as he looked down to her. He began to move forwards and backwards, looking up at the sky as he did so. His blue hair swayed in the wind that was made as he moved. " How long have you been going to Manga High?" Lucas asked.

Thorne was quite impressed with the graciousness of the boy's gesture. She nodded to him in thankyou, and sat on the swing. She gently kicked her heels back and forth, breathing in the crisp, outdoor air. It was a fabulous day to play in the park.

" How long have you been going to Manga High?"

She searched for the answer in the leaves of the trees. It hadn't really been very long, as far as she knew. Mentally she went over the days, how full they had been.

"I guess I've been here for about a week, but honestly, it feels like I've never been anywhere else. This place draws you in and fills up your life. I love it."

" Hm..." Lucas replied. He wasn't used to having full days. Usually for him his days were just reading and practicing during the day and then going with his mother to watch her play at night. His days were usually calm and repetitive. You could almost say they were scheduled. Lucas wondered what it would be like to have full days. " Has Manga High changed your lifestyle?" He asked.

" Has Manga High changed your lifestyle?"

"Oh it definitely has. I used to not do very much at all. I'd go to work, clean the house, cook for my father, and maybe sneak out to the quarry to swim. That was pretty much it. Since I got here it's been a constant whirl of new places and new faces. It's really fun. I like it."

She smiled, spinning her swing slowly in a circle, and then releasing it to send herself whipping around. She giggled. Swings used to be Lily's favourite thing at the park. On her good days they'd spend hours just pushing eachother, and attempting to see who could swing the highest.

"The school will change your life Lucas, really quickly too. The people here are so friendly, and they come up with the most original ways to have fun. I've never had so many different options as to what I could do in the evening. My new friends are really opening my eyes to the things you can do here."

Jumping down, Lucas sat on the swing. He began to swing on it, but only a little. He hadn't been on a swing set in ages. His parents didn't like them going out much, especially since they had such a big house and didn't really need to go out. It was why he usually went with his mother to watch her play. They were just protective, that was all. " I never went out much, maybe on a few dates when I was lucky, out to dinner with my family and my father's clients, things like that. I went out with my mother every night to hear her play and sing." He explained.

Looking over to Hawthorne, he smiled. " So who are your friends and what are they like?" He asked.

"Yeah, so we were both kinda sheltered then, eh? You'll like the social whirl here, I promise!"

She thought about how different the reasons behind their sheltered life were. He seemed to have grown up in a household of privilege, but she didn't envy him it. Even if her parents had been well off, it wouldn't have changed anything.

" So who are your friends and what are they like?"

"Hmmm. Tough one. There's Jun, he's tough and protective, but very playful. There's Stella, all sweet and innocent. Ryoko, she's another toughie. Ayeka, she can be a bit of a bitch, but I like her anyways. Ummm, Datu is really fun to play tag with, and Alastair is . . . unusual. Yaky and Chris are a bit too much into the drugs for my taste. That pretty much covers the people I consider my friends though."

She paused. She'd been talking for awhile now.

"How many people have you met?"

Re: Reading (Thorny)
Lucas looked at her strangely. For a week of school she'd met a fair few people, and they all sounded pretty different, however he only recognised two of the names. They were of course Jun-Bo and Stella. The amount of names Hawthorne said proved that the school was fairly social.

"How many people have you met?"

Looking up at the sky, Lucas began to think about it. " I've met three people so far. Jun-Bo, Stella and a girl names Amber. They all seem pretty nice." He explained. It was expected that he wouldn't have met a big number of people, after all, Lucas had only been at the school for a few days.

" I've met three people so far. Jun-Bo, Stella and a girl names Amber. They all seem pretty nice."

Lucas had only met one person that Thorny didn't know, so it appeared that the same bunch of people tended to introduce themselves around. That was cool. Perhaps she would try harder to seek out some of the less social members of the school community. That and, she was amused that Lucas was impressed with the list. She had only mentioned the ones she had gotten to know, never mind those that she had only met briefly.

"Most of the people here are pretty nice, I can assure you of that. The only person I've met that I wouldn't classify in the whole 'nice' catagory is Sakura, but she seems to be friends with Stella. Well, that and Ayeka isn't exactly nice . . ."

She trailed off, she didn't want to speak ill of her friend, but the boy should have a warning at the very least. It would be very easy of him to incite the wrath of the green-eyed beauty.

Lucas hadn't met either of those people before, and he wasn't quite sure he wanted to. He didn't like getting himself mixed up in drama and fights and things like that. Lucas was the type of person who talked his way out of things and generally tried to avoid danger. " Well, why aren't they considered to be nice people?" He asked, wanting to hear more about them in case he ever met them.

" Well, why aren't they considered to be nice people?"

"Well, Ayeka can be rather sharp tongued, she has strong opinions, and anyone who doesn't accede to them tends to be left by the wayside, their emotions splattered against a figurative windshield of haughty wit. She's a little bit . . . mean if you don't fit her mold. But she has a good heart."

There, that was as much as she was gonna say about her dress-shopping friend. She felt like she was betraying her by even saying that much, but the warning was issued.

"As for Sakura, she's a predator, and she has a split personality. Sakura herself is rather bitter and angry, and intent on swallowing up the whole world. Her other half though, this Cherry creature, is dangerous. She's violent and sexually, I dun even know how to say it . . . she's just, best to avoid."

Hawthorne spoke about Ayeka, and Lucas remembered had met people like that before. Most rich people generally were mean and all that. Then she spoke about the other one. Some girl with a split personality? It didn't sound like either one of them was really good, they were both bad in their own way. " How do you know which one is which?" He asked, wondering if there was some sort of physical way to tell which one was talking.

" How do you know which one is which?"

Hmmm . . . that one was a toughie. She wasn't completely sure how to tell . . . and then she thought back to the night on the roof where she had first met "Cherry."

"Cherry's voice is different than Sakura's, it's a lot lower. Also, Cherry acts a little more predatory, a little more animalistic than Sakura. After all, Saku can hold a pleasant conversation when she wants to."

Had to be fair to the girl, since she had never really been horrible to Hawthorne, in fact, Saku had tried to help her out with the whole Jun-Bo situation, it was just that her methods were a little . . . unorthodox, and Thorny didn't want anyone hurt in the process.

Lucas didn't really want to meet this Cherry girl anymore. And if it was apart of Sakura, he wasn't too sure he wanted to meet her either. However, if he did end up seeing her, he wouldn't be rude and run away or anything like that, he would be his usual polite self, even if he would be a little nervous. " Oh well, you can't avoid people forever. I'm sure she will find me sooner or later." He replied, an obvious calm sound to his voice, showing it didn't bother him that much.

Thorne grinned at Lucas. It was kinda funny to immagine Sakura/Cherry stalking him around campus, for the soul purpose of destroying his innocence. It was something she could picture the girl doing, too.

"Don't worry Lucas, we'll protect you from her. Besides, if she knows you like Stella, she'll prolly leave you alone. The pair of them have a weird kinda friendship going."

It was prolly Stella's innocence that drew Sakura in the first place, opposites attract and all that jazz. Perhaps being friends with Stella would soften the older girl a bit, make things better in her own life because of it.

Lucas wondered if Sakura would be the same as Jun-Bo was, protective. If she was then Lucas would have to meet her anyway. But if Lucas had Jun's 'approval', he wondered if Sakura would be as easy to win over. Still, meeting her wasn't something he had to worry about. Lucas was a calm guy, he wouldn't let people effect him like he thought Sakura/Cherry would. " I wonder, would she have to check me out too before I ask Stella out?" He asked.
