It can't be natural, there is no doubt about it. As whatever it is, it is on each floor as they climb. Though the higher they get the stronger the presence if that is what it may be called, becomes. Finally, it is as though it is surrounding them. As though they are breathing this feeling into there lungs. Then Knives stops on the floor he thinks to be the mans choosing, and it is near overwhelming. He reaches for the door, and opens it, nothing being able to prepare him for what he might see, or hear, or even smell, as all his sences seem to be overwhelmed by this unnatural presence.

Re: The Song of the Sibyl (open)
Knives is worried that V will lose him. He shrugs, and then kicks off from the ground; such a powerful movement. V doesn't waste any time. She's practical, and reacts to these situations with an economy of motion unknown to most people. Discipline, she starts to run up the stairs.

"Don't let me lose him," she says, as she runs, glint of gold behind her glasses. Waste of breath? No, of course not. V never speaks of her own abilities and powers, and she rarely uses one of them. The other is an automatic thing. Can someone who speaks English stop hearing words spoken in English, simply because they will it so?

"Six," she says, repetition is a mantra, and a few moments after Knives reaches floor six--because she is slower, although she's running quickly, steadily--V appears, slightly winded, but basically okay.

There's a certain predatory eerieness in the air, impossible for Knives to ignore, and just as imposible for V to ignore. Among other things. "In there?"

And, the scent of the man -- it certainly does go in, although it becomes blurred by sharper smells, iron-based smells. Blood, and blood again.

Re: The Song of the Sibyl (open)
The door opens to a hallway. At first glance, it is bare, nothing of interest, but that smell. The origin of the smell, the walls, a deep brown hue for the color, yet there are streaks of scarlet, a few to the left, and more to the right, one appears a splash, and at the base of the wall below it. A hand. Pale and immobile, still slowly oozing blood. Down teh hall a door remains partially open.

Inside the room, can you see? the door must be opened the rest of the way, as what ever it may be, is blocked by the barely open door.

Slam!

Something hits the wall with such impact on the other side that the dismembered hand jumps nearly halfway across the hall. Then the sound of something getting up quickly and movement again as two pieces of metal clang across each other. Those familiar with such things, recognize the sound as that of swords.

Knives frowned as the feeling surrounded him. But he still continued, trying to ignore it. V wouldn't lead him into the den of anything supernatural or dangerous, would she? And even if she did, Knives would be there to help. He liked her, and considered her a friend of his now....and if she needed help, and he could do something, he'd be there. A smile crossed his face, as he realized he was glad to have brought his sword with him today. His hand came to rest casually on the hilt of it, hanging at his side.

Then, he stepped through the doorway. The smell hit him, overwhelmed him. He had to stop, cringe, and cover his nose with both hands. His eyes and mouth closed immediately, as if the smell could get into them and contaminate his senses. After a moment or so, he peeked out through half-closed eyelids, into the blurry world before him. When it didn't harm him too bad, he opened his eyes completely, and looked around at the dirty surroundings. It made him cringe again.

That was when he noticed V was already well ahead of him. He moved to quickly catch up, walking with speed until he was beside of her again. His breaths came quick and shallow, and not often, to keep the smell out of his sensitive nose; his hand was still covering it, as if that would keep the bad air out.

His ears twiched at the loud sound, and he jumped, his eyes shooting towards the door. Then he heard the sound of swords, immediately recognizing the noise for what it was. His free hand shot to his sword, ready to draw it if necessary. But now, he was following V's lead.

Eugh. V's nose isn't as sensitive as Knives, but the smell of blood isn't pleasant, nor is the sight which greets them on the sixth floor: Blood and a pale little hand. Slam, something hits the wall; the hand jumps across the hall.

Now: The decision. V does not usually take reckless actions, or any actions which might endanger her life (sneaking out of school aside). The hall is bloodstained and there's somebody ( . . . Karrody . . .) fighting in one of the rooms. He is fighting one creature only, a vampire with eyes as green as copper, veined in yellow, who moves as if he had no spine. He certainly now lacks a hand. This was not part of V's plan. Nor was this part of her calculations when she did sneak out of school because she heard the whisper of a rumour of a whisper of a fact: That this particular spirit hunter was in town.

She draws her gun. Such a clean movement. Aims at the door of the room the fighter's are within. A precaution. Says, to Knives: "Can you still smell him under all this?"

"Can you still smell him under all this?"
Knives frowned. He was almost sure that he could smell it; after all, the nose of a German Sheppard can distinguish even the slightest scent of something. This is common knowledge, which is why they are used as police dogs to smell out drugs, even if the drugs are stuffed into, say, a coffee can. And this was no different from that situation. But he didn't want to try....even the shallowest inhaling he'd done thus far was very unpleasant, and sniffing the air for a hard-to-find scent would be worse.

He sighed, and looked over at her. "I...I think I can. You want me to try?" He tilted his head to the side. For the sake of a friend, he'd do it. After all, it wasn't ~that~ bad. He sighed, and shrugged, awaiting her answer.

When he saw V draw her weapon, he decided it was best he did as well. After all, if this quiet girl thought there was a need to fight, there must be one. So, he pulled at the hilt of his sword, so that the silvery blade of his samauri sword came out of its sheath. The blade glinted under the light from the cieling. Once the sword was fully drawn, Knives held it at his side; but he was ready, in case something happened.

Re: The Song of the Sibyl (open)
Karrody moves quickly, hoping that his skill can allow him the edge he needs. After such a successfull attack as Karrody's initial attack by removing what appeared to be the Vampires dominant right hand. Karrody had no idea that his foe would be able to bring his weapon to bare just as skillfully in his left. In such Karrody's blade rings throughout the room as Karrody skillfully manipulates his sword into such motions only another skilled swordsman might be able to anticipate. Sadly for Karrody, this vampire he fights is very skilled in his actions.

Making an attack the vampire parries in such a way to bring Karrody close to him again, and his leg kicks out with tremendous force. This sends Karrody flying through the room and into the wall again. Yes, it was him that hit the wall last time, and it is him that hit it again. His left side impacting with enough force to allow the lights in the hall to flicker as though they were about to expire.

Standing again, Karrody is prepared for another attack from the vampire, and has decided that he has to give it everything he can to keep this vampire from killing him, and still be able to get what he wants out of him.

As the vampire closes, Karrody barely avoids the vampires attack all the while drawing his second blade, hidden underneath his garments, somehow unseen from his opponent. With both blades drawn, and knowing he has the full upper hand now, Karrody attacks with a renewed vigor as the vampire tries to avoid Karrody's repeated strikes.

With a parry, dodge, two more parries, a cut across the vampires thigh, a parry, dodge, another dodge, a cut on his upper arm, one across his chest......

The strikes just keep coming relentlessly in Karrody's attacks, backing the vampire into the wall with the skill of a swordsman trained to use more then one blade. Finally a deep gash in the vampires leg brings him to the ground, and another across his wrist forces him to drop the defensive weapon. Just as the blade sings through the air to remove the vampires head, the blade stops. Just touching the vampires throat, and the other comes to bare, both blades ready to scissor across the vampires neck, but doing nothing.

Karrody now moves closer to the vampire, and a chilling voice is heard, one with death and ill intent heard in each tone within the words. "You don't have much choice but to listen. So know, you are going to tell me what I want to know."

Re: The Song of the Sibyl (open)
You want me to try?

Nod.

If he tries, he will smell the man. The man went through the hall. Didn't even stop to examine the door, the room the sounds of murder are coming from. Just went on, and around the corner. If Knives decides to follow this scent, he'll miss the bloodless, severed hand, and when he turns the corner he'll see scorched wallpaper and spiderwebs. The scent disappears in the middle of this little corner, however; as if it went up. There is an almost invisible hatch there.

If Knives chooses not to follow the scent, something different will happen.

V keeps her weapon trained on the room. Her eyes close for one moment. Brief. Then open again, as bright and molten as ever. It sounds as if Karrody has it under control. After that one moment, she doesn't give the room more attention than it is due, and her footsteps are quiet as she follows Knives down the hall (or, if he never followed the scent, continues down the hall on her own, and stops in front of a large map of the facility behind plexiglass on the wall).

Karrody is an unlucky villain, tonight. The green-eyed vampire's eyes begin to close, but not before sparking with a crocodile's malice, a brief smile twisting his lips up. "Give me a cigarette," the vampire says, and then Karrody is awash in the kind of feeling he usually invokes in others. Terror, so heavy, so dense, that it weighs him down; the entire room almost vibrates, and it's cold enough to freeze the air in his lungs.

In the walls, pipes break; the lights flicker.

As the vampire twists his smile, Karrody is about to cut to show the vampire that he is serious, that is just before it get cold. He has experienced vampires of power, and otehrs of great strength, but this one has been different from the start. It seems this vampire has relied on something else, and suddenly, Karrody is afraid that that something else is apparent in this room as the temperature suddenly drops. Trying to hold his fear from turning into terror, Karrody moves closer to the vampire, unsure as to how successfull he will be, buit deciding that the vampire might hopefully still realize the two swords mean to end its existence. "Tell me what I want to know, and you just might leave here with your head attached." Karrody continues, the fear of this vampires possible allies showing up becoming more and more apparent as time slowly carries on.

Re: The Song of the Sibyl (open)
She nodded. That meant that he would have to sniff out the man. Well, he didn't ~have~ to...but he wanted to help V, and this was what she needed help with at the moment. Besides...it was just blood and whatnot. He'd smelled it before, in a few of the battles he'd been in that he'd had to kill a monster or animal. Slowly, he lowered his hand, uncovering his nose, and began to breath.

A sudden rush of that awful smell came, but with it was just the slightest trace of the man's scent. It was a strange way to smell this....he knew that before he got his powers, the blood would have overpowered this scent. Yet somehow, it was there, just as strong as if the blood had not been around, yet less powerful. He didn't think on it for too long; it had been two years or more since he'd gained his abilities, and he'd grown very used to them.

And so, he began walking, sniffing the air, following his nose to the end of the hall. As he passed the door, he glanced towards it, trying to peer through the crack and into the room. He wanted to know what was going on in there, but he wasn't about to leave his current mission for the sake of curiosity. When he couldn't see anything through the crack in the doorway, he shrugged and kept on.

When he reached that corner, he followed his nose, tilting his head back to look straight up. For a moment, he saw nothing. Then, he squinted, and focused his eyes on the ceiling, until he could see the faintest outline of a door. Then, smirking, he turned back to look at V. "Uhhm....I can jump and reach it, but I can't stay up there long enough to get it open...." He frowned and tilted his head to the side. "You got any ideas?" He sighed, and returned his eyes to the hatch above them, a thoughtful look on his face.

A couple of moments later, he glanced at her again. "You can stand on my shoulders and try to open it, I'll hold you up. I mean....unless you have any better ideas?" He frowned. He was sure she didn't want to climb on a guy she barely knew, but he couldn't think of any other way for one of them to get up there long enough to open the door.

She turns her gaze from the map behind the plexiglass, different suites in different colors, all dim and dull. She pushes her shades up the fine bridge of her nose, and inclines her head, after a moment of thought, and a thoughtful study of the ceiling is made. Her head, she cants just so to the side: She's such a good listener.

But she does give Knives a - brief, brief - direct look. "Could anybody give me a reason not to trust you, Knives?"

Under the circumstances, the question might seem out of place; but she seems very serious about it.

OOC: Don't worry, I'll post more NPC-y crap after this lil' bit of convo between Knives and V decides their actions.

He blinked, and tilted his head to the side, as his eyes locked onto hers. It seemed he was a little confused by her question, by the frown on his face and the look in his eyes, even in the way his ears twitched in response to the question. It was obvious he didn't quite understand what the point of the question was.

"Trust me to do what?" He blinked. This was the obvious question to immediately follow hers; after all, he wasn't sure what it was she was asking. But it also gave him enough time to try and think through the question, so that there was no hesitation before he responded. "To hold you up? I don't think anyone has any reason I shouldn't be able to hold you up..." He gave her a big grin. "I'm not a bad guy. I like you, V, I wouldn't want to hurt ya."

I'm not a bad guy. I like you, V, I wouldn't want to hurt ya. Genevieve is a cautious character. Difficult to gain her trust. Difficult to, truly, make it past her walls. But only a few people know how difficult it is, and she doesn't act as if she keeps everyone at a distance, per se. But, whatever Knives said satisfies her.

Her gaze lifts from him, to the ceiling. "Then give me a leg up."

And once she's on his shoulders, balancing as best as she is able, depending on how much he moves, she works on the hatch until . . . Pop. It falls to the ground by Knives' feet, and there is no accompanying fall of dust.

He nodded, and helped her onto his shoulders. His fingers interlaced, and he held his hands out in front of him, palms up, giving her a place to step onto as she climbed. Once she was on his shoulders, he placed his hands on her shins, holding her steady while she stood. Then, to see what she was doing, he tilted his head backwards, so that he could look up at the ceiling where she was working.

And then, the tile fell to the floor. Knives's eyes followed the object during its entire descent; as soon as it hit, though, his view shot back up to V and the hole in the ceiling. He smiled up at her, whether she looked back down to see it or not. "Good job!" He shouted. "Can you climb up into it?"

Re: The Song of the Sibyl (open)
The lovely, golden girl nods again (once). Straightens, legs shake (naturally), and gets her shoulders into the hatch; steps onto her tiptoes, then uses Knives' head (and she's careful not to kick him in the face or hurt him; but it must be somewhat startling) as the final boost. Then she's in, clatter, clatter.

Meanwhile, Karrody. His two swords are ready to scissor the vampire's head off at a moment's notice. The vampire's crocodile green eyes slit, languidly; the gesture is opulent. "I said give me a cigarette," he repeats, roughshod voice.

And, no. The all pervasive miasma of terror does not let up. It practically oozes from the walls; wraps around Karrody's hands; his swords are so heavy, heavy, heavy, and if he even moves a muscle, he'll chop himself up into little bits, won't he, and those little bits will quiver and live, and devour each other, and that will hurt --

The cold begins to spread. From the room, into the hallway, and Knives will hear pipes snapping (crackling popping) running all up and down the hallway. The lights go out, completely.

As the terror begins to flow through everything, and Karrody's swords gain weight in his hands he barely hears the vampire before him. Looking finally to him, trying his best to steady his voice but not succeding the first time so he remains quieter a bit longer. "I don't smoke, and if you don't cooperate, your chances of doing it again will not look to good." Karrody's words start out strong, but as he gets nearer the threat, his confidence is has dropped enough, the terror making the simplest thing to do that much worse, that he almost chokes on his own words.

Trying not to be to obvious, though he is unsure how to rid this vampire what it must already know, Karrody waits a moment, trying not to take his eyes from his opponent. So are you going to tell me...." He pauses as he tries to add strength to his voice. "About Mr. Morrison, or am I going to need to find another of his lackeys?"

Re: The Song of the Sibyl (open)
Knives blinked as he felt a foot on his head. Then pressure came, as she stepped up onto it, putting much of her weight on that foot to get herself in the air. He frowned, and closed his eyes; he was strong, but he severely doubted his neck could hold the bulk of any human's weight for very long without snapping. And it was painful, too.

But it was over quick enough. Once she was off of him, he tilted his head back and forth, eyes still closed, trying to crack it (or something). The pain was gone, but it was still pretty stiff. He just shrugged; at least she was a small girl, and didn't weigh much. He sighed, and looked up into the hole she'd disappeared through, and got ready to leap into it.

Just then, a noise came. Cracks, snaps, pops (whoa) came from the walls all around him. Knives's ears twitched a bit, and he looked around to see what it was. Yet nothing was visibly wrong with the walls. Frowning, the dog boy decided it was best to go into the hatch before anything worse happened, and kicked off from the ground. While he was still in mid-air, the lights shut off. Pitch darkness surrounded him, and as his eyes had not yet gotten used to the lack of light, he could see nothing at all. But he sailed through the opening in the ceiling regardless, scratching his shoulder on the edge of it. He cringed at the contact; but it wasn't bad, and didn't even break the skin, so he'd be alright.

He turned his head in the direction that V's scent came from. Still unable to see, he tried to squint into the darkness....which did nothing. "What was that...?" He questioned. By now, her outline was becoming visible. For the moment, he'd almost forgotten about the man they were chasing.

Re: The Song of the Sibyl (open)
"You want me to tell you where to find Mister Morrison?" The green-eyed vampire's eyes half-close. He takes a deep breath, holding his throat away from the blades, as much as possible, and standing even straighter. Then he exhales, and slumps between Karrody's killing weapons. He opens one eye, and then the other. "Try Hell, you little brat."

Karrody will do whatever it is Karrody does in situations such as these. Except for the fact that Karrody's arms appear to be under somebody else's control. They won't move. His fingers will not lock; they will not unlock. They simply won't move. His swords will not move, either. He can feel his arms, and they ache, with cold.

To anyone who saw Karrody at the moment, they would notice witch light in his eyes, which isn't usually there.

Meanwhile, when it comes to darkness, Genevieve is usually prepared. Knives thuds into the shaft (oh, what a handy thing it is) and it's dark. Well, yes. Of course; now they're in the ventilation system, which is conveniently large enough to crawl around and spy on people in. What kind of hotel was this, anyway? So, again: It's dark. For a moment. Then, a disturbance in the shadows, the sound of motion, and a small light clicks on. V has a flashlight in hand (she is never without one), and shines it on Knives. She is scooted against the very edge of the 'tunnel', although she has also crawled somewhat further on. Knives' continued presence surprises her, although it shouldn't; he goes to the same school as she does, after all.

"Perhaps you should go first." And he has enough room to squeeze by, and he'll catch the scent again, and it will lead him forward until there's a sharp left, and that will lead them closer to the room Karrody's in.

Re: The Song of the Sibyl (open)
Knives heard the click, and saw the light, as V shone it in his eyes. He blinked, and squinted, and turned his head away, covering his face to keep the brightness from harming his vision. When she moved the beam of light away from him, he opened his eyes again, looking at her once more, finally able to see her face in the dim light that surrounded them now. Little blips of colored light filled his vision for a moment, before he blinked again a few times, causing them to fade away.

"A flashlight, huh? I used to carry a flashlight on my keychain....but I don't have a keychain now that I left my truck back home..." He shrugged, and gave V a big smile. "That's very smart of you, I admire that."

"Perhaps you should go first."
He nodded, and began to crawl forward. He squeezed past her, even though it was somewhat tough to do - after all, he was a 6'1, 200-pound male. But once he'd pushed past her, he began crawling again, sniffing the air as he did so. And because it was a ventilation shaft, there were smells galore to sift through; he could smell every person who'd been in this building for the past several days. But he quickly picked out the scent of the man they were looking for: it was one he knew, and it was one of the strongest since the man was still there, which made it rather simple.

And he followed the shaft closer and closer, until they were very close to the room. And then, he cringed, and stopped for a moment. The smells of that room had gotten into the ventilation quite easily; it had been a fairly weak scent before, but now it bothered him. But he sighed, and trudged on, sifting through the scents some more as he led V through the shaft towards the man.
