Re: Food Court Fiasco (Thorny)
The old woman turned to Hawthorne, letting Kane mull through the information she had given him. She gave the pierced girl and intense look, before continuing to speak. Thorny was just trying to process the whole togetherness issue. Damn Kane was gonna be freaked out now.

"Kane is not without his own shadows, haunting his footsteps. A man called David tracks him, and, by extention, yourself. He will cause great difficulty for the both of you."

Haw wondered who David was, and if Kane knew anything about him. It was curious. And the two men standing between her and Kane? Those were easy to figure out. Jun and Drewe, Drewe and Jun. Everything about her lately seemed to revolve around those two, and apparently now Kane. That was curious.

"Your threads of fate are interwoven. Defeating one demon will help defeat the other. Together you are strong enough, if Hawthorne does not give the banishing of her demons over to the samurai she thinks she loves."

Thorne's eyes went wide. This lady was crazy! She thought she loved Jun-Bo? Wasn't that one of those things you either knew or you didn't? Sure she was confused, but wouldn't she rather be with Jun? Wasn't Kane just a friend?

Kane's confused expression was changed to a rather shocked one when his father's name was mentioned. So this really wasn't a joke. This was real, this woman really knew all about his past, his history. And his father would be coming after him. But there were more important things to worry about. Kane could beat his father easily. Plus he was in jail. " What about my mother? Will she get better?" He asked. The lady should have known about his mother's deep emotional state. That was all he really cared about. With his free hand, Kane gripped the necklace around his neck, the last thing his mother gave to him before he left.

"Your threads of fate are interwoven. Defeating one demon will help defeat the other. Together you are strong enough, if Hawthorne does not give the banishing of her demons over to the samurai she thinks she loves."

Samurai? Who was that? Kane didn't know there were one of those around. Maybe Hawthorne mentioned it to him and he didn't remember. He looked over at her again, wondering what was going on inside her head.

" What about my mother? Will she get better?"

"Your mother's state of anguish was caused by her own decisions, and only she can heal herself. The best thing you can do for her is push forward, show the woman that life still goes on."

Hawthorne turned, giving Kane a weird look. This was getting way too deep, and she wanted it to stop. The lady was right on the verge of revealing details that she neither wanted to know, or share. She tried to let go, but the woman's grip on her hand was far too strong.

"Look lady, I think that that was fun enough. We're just students though, we can't afford a really long session. Perhaps you should let us leave now?"

Her voice was strained and nervous, stretched thin from all the tension. She cast Kane a pleading look. It was obvious that he wanted to know about his mother, but she wasn't certain if she could keep this up.

So Kane just had to live on like nothing was wrong while his mother just stayed at home pleading for her useless husband to come back like nothing ever happened. Meanwhile his aunt, who had been like a mother when there was none had to look after her. The guilt of leaving his mother in the hands of his uncle and aunt pained him inside. Maybe this whole school really was a bad idea. " And my aunty and uncle? Are... are they mad at me for going?" He asked.

"Look lady, I think that that was fun enough. We're just students though, we can't afford a really long session. Perhaps you should let us leave now?"

Fun? Hawthorne had to be joking when she said that. But it seemed like she didn't want to know, or want him to know, anymore. Kane tried to pull back himself. Maybe if they both did it then she'd let go. " Yeah, if she's not into it, then I'm out too." He said.

" And my aunty and uncle? Are... are they mad at me for going?"

"Your Aunt and Uncle are only too glad that you found a place to grow and flourish. They do not resent the burden of your mother's prescence. Family ties bind, and they only break if we let them."

The woman continued as if she hadn't heard the teens protestations, clinging to their hands and drawing them down towards a small crystal globe in the center of their little triangle. She placed each of the children's hands on the device, and removed her own hands.

"Look."

Hawthorne couldn't avoid the compulsion. Before her eyes flashed a million little images. Pictures of her life with Drewe, the beatings, the other women, the drugs. Images of her sister's last days, her mother's suicide, her father's alcoholism.

There were other images too; a man and woman she didn't recognize, the man shouting and hitting the woman, young Kane throwing himself between the pair. Another older couple, comforting the woman, who she assumed must be Kane's mother.

They flicked forward, revealing the most emotional periods of their young lives to one another, scene after scene, until they reached this moment. The woman put her hands atop theirs, gently caressing the teens knuckles.

"Are you certain you do not wish to see more?"

Kane was relieved that his uncle and aunt weren't mad at him. He thought that they might have been hiding the feelings from him so he wouldn't stay back an extra year like he did the first time he was approached with the idea of going to Manga High School. Thinking back on it, it wasn't such a bad idea after all.

"Look."

Kane watched the crystal ball. He saw all kinds of images. Ones that he didn't know. Hawthorne, some guy, some girls, some drugs. A little girl, suicide and alcohol. That must have been her life, and he doubted she wanted him to see any of that. He was about to look over when he saw the familiar images of his own past. It was the time his father attacked his mother, the awakening of his power to freeze attackers. It was the day his father was taken away forever. Then his uncle and aunt.

It was their whole lives flashing before their eyes, and each others. From his life in France to his life at Manga High, and all the 'fun' in between. But the tragedies in his life were nothing compared to hers. He couldn't believe she'd gone through so much. When the woman rested her hand on his, it was obviously shaking.

"Are you certain you do not wish to see more?"

Kane opened his mouth, but the words just wouldn't come out. He gripped the necklace tighter and tighter until he was sure it would snap, but it didn't. Kane glanced at Hawthorne out of the corner of his eye, but he couldn't dare look at her now. He hung his head, eyes staring at the ground below. " Why?" Was all he could ask.

Re: Food Court Fiasco (Thorny)
The woman looked at the pair of teens, each wrapped up in one another's tragedies. The boy questioned the need to see farther. He didn't want to see how their two lives knit together after this? It all rested on the girl then.

Hawthorne watched the tragedies of her life flow over her again, things she had denied to herself, to everyone. Things she had never wanted to share, or even remember. Still, Kane's own life was filled with tragedy, and her heart ached for the boy as she felt the tension build up within her.

She continued to stare at the ball, not looking away for even a moment. Her hand beside Kane's was not shaking, rather it was clenched into a tight little ball. Her nails were digging so hard into her hand that a small trickle of blood ran down the crystal ball.

As the crimson liquid streamed over the surface, the images sparked and changed, taking a darker colouring. Now the images were of the two of them. They were in a room full of people - Ryoko, Jun, Stella, Drewe . . . Drewe stepped forward, wrapped his arms around her, and smiled at Kane as she fell forward.

The image spiralled, showing her in bed with Drewe, his arms locked around her. It was her nightmare! Her hand slipped under the pillow, drawing out a two-way radio, Jun's gift. Then she and Kane were standing in front of the man from his past, his father. The man was on one knee, begging, and the anger on the blonde boy's face was terrible to see as his fist slammed into David's nose.

Re: Food Court Fiasco (Thorny)
Kane's eyes were drawn back to the ball as the blood began to trickle from Hawthorne's hand onto it. There were all these people, he didn't know any of them. He watched curiously as a man hugged Hawthorne, then it spiraled to another image of them. He looked over at her for a moment in utter disbelief, before looking back again. They were her nightmares, so why was he still watching?

Then there it was, his father. He was on his knees, just where he belonged. Kane and Hawthorne were there too. After the fist slammed into David, he lay there motionless. The scene switched to flashbacks from Kane's past again. The time he spent in France, when they were happy. Brief shots were shown of their family, laughing and smiling. Then in a flash it changed, showing all the times Kane's mother Ani pushed him away and drove him into the arms of his aunt.

Then it was white. Kane stood alone. To his left were his parents, and to his right were his aunt and uncle. Both sides looked happy. Kane moved to his right and stood along side his aunt and uncle. His father and mother faded away slowly, their happy image faded to one of David beating his mother. Was that what happened when he used to go to training?

His question was about to be answered. There was a clear image of Kane happily running down the street to his uncles house to train. It cut from small scenes of Kane training to ones of his father beating his mother. The running image was back. But this time it changed from the happy Kane to the image of him running scared with his mother in his arms. Those images of David being so brutal to his mother continued to surface.

" Stop it! Just stop it stop this god damn thing I don't want to see it anymore! Stop it please just make it stop!" He pleaded. A tear streamed down his cheek as the pain in his eyed showed clearly on his desperate face.

" Stop it! Just stop it stop this god damn thing I don't want to see it anymore! Stop it please just make it stop!"

At the sound of Kane's voice Hawthorne did the only thing she could think of, faced with both his pain and her own. She pushed her balled up fist forward, hard against the crystal globe, knocking off both the other's hands, and smashing the thing on the grimey floor.

She looked at the woman, her face angry and soaked with tears. Why would she hurt them like this? What was the old crone trying to do? Angrily whiping the moisture from her face, Thorne left a trail of congealing blood wherever her palm touched. She reached out her other hand, taking ahold of Kane's.

"Let's get out of here."

Her voice quavered on the brink of complete emotional breakdown, barely remaining on this side of sane, but she managed to hold on, glaring balefully at Madame Dreamfeather.

The old woman gave the pair of teens a crooked smile, relishing in the emotion that had been wrought on the two standing before her. Every major experience in their lives had just been shared. All their fears, all their nightmares, how else did one throw two such different creatures together?

Still, Hawthorne said nothing to the woman. Tugging on the blonde boy's hand she headed straight for the door, which slowly creaked open as they approached. Madame had shown them everything that she had wished to, and they were now free to go.

"Let's get out of here."

Kane nodded once, still not able to really look at her. But he did catch the crooked smile from the old hag. He glanced at her before looking to the door as it slowly opened. When Hawthorne look his hand, Kane nearly pulled back. He had no idea what the hell just happened. Maybe it was a dream or something, but it was more like a nightmare.

They headed for the door, and Kane was surprised that she was letting them go. Maybe she was done with them. Did she have some kind of twisted fun doing all that? And how did she do that anyway? Still, Kane didn't dare open his mouth at all. He didn't want to talk about it, he just wanted the images now running through his mind to stop.

The children's feet crunched through the remains of the crystal ball as they exited the fortune teller's shop. Hawthorne raised her injured hand to her face, blocking the rather bright sunlight. Inside the freaky lady's place she had forgotten that it was still the middle of the day.

She turned and gave Kane an odd look. There was a lot about this boy that she shouldn't know, that she now did. In a short period of time they had gotten to know each other in a rather violent, nearly pornographic manner, and she wasn't sure what to do. As soon as her vision cleared, she dropped Kane's hand.

"Sorry."

With that she headed back towards the school. She had been willing to let Kane walk off earlier, she just hoped he would extend to her the same courtesy. There were some things she had to think about. So many images she needed to deny to herself, without having to justify them to someone else. What she needed was a razor blade, perhaps the emo kids had it right after all.

"Sorry."

Kane looked up to the sky, blocking the light with his newly freed hand. He didn't hear Hawthorne speak, but maybe he didn't want to. He looked over and she was leaving. " Wait, where are you going?" He asked. Kane ran over and stood in front of her. She couldn't just escape from this like he tried to escape from that fight. This was very different from that.

" I know you probably don't want to, but we 'ave to talk about this." He explained. But why did they have to if neither of them really wanted to. Still, the whole situation had to be talked over now. Hawthorne was practically a stranger yet in five minutes she knew more about him than he ever cared to share with people.

" Wait, where are you going?"

Kane stood in front of her, and the look in her eyes was actually rather close to terror rather than anything else. All she wanted to do was run, or swim, until all the feeling was gone. Some things needed to be dealt with, others just needed to be left alone.

" I know you probably don't want to, but we 'ave to talk about this."

"Great, you talk about it. Personally, I'm getting out of here before my nightmares become real. If that's what hanging about here is gonna bring, I don't need it. The past is dead, leave it be. I saw nothing, and neither did you."

She tried to move around the blonde boy, having no intention of staying where they were. The fortune teller's place was too near, and she didn't want that business to even be a memory.

Kane allowed Hawthorne to pass him. He looked to the fortune tellers place. Why would the map want to bring them there? There must have been a reason for it, unless the map generally picks hiding spots at random. At this point Kane had forgotten what they were running from and why they were hiding.

He looked back to Hawthorne and ran up to her, walking beside her. " But I did see something. I saw a lot of things... And so did you. You can't expect me to forget all that." Kane explained. He wished he could forget it all again. The last thing he ever needed were those memories haunting him again.

Manidoo, he really wasn't gonna let this one go, was he? Why did every thing she did lately lead to things about her past? Those things were over, why couldn't they just stay where she left them? Far away from her memory.

"You don't have to forget if you don't want, but I managed to forget all that once, and I can do it again. Why would you want to have to relive that in your memory? I'm sorry the old hag felt the need to show you what I'd been through, no one needs to see that, but just forget it, please?"

She was begging now. There were some things that she didn't want to explain, and her past was one of them. Sure she had had questions about Kane's visions, but she wasn't about to pry. People's business was their own, right?

Kane shook his head. No, there had to be more to it than that. There had to be a reason why they were brought there and why everything happened. There must have been a reason that was just staring them in the face. Maybe it was something that woman said. Didn't she mention something about them fighting demons, the ones from their past, together?

" If you want to forget it then that's your business. But your map brought us 'ere, so we must 'ave been brought 'ere for a reason? Don't you understand that?" He asked. Maybe he was just reading into this whole thing a little too much. But it was a pretty serious thing that happened. Kane just wanted to get to the bottom of it.

Damn, but he was prolly right. Everything had a reason, the whole world was interconnected, after all. She sighed and stopped moving, looking Kane in the face. The boy was right and she had to accept that.

"Okay. I guess you're right. There has to be a reason. Stuff like that doesn't happen randomly, but it's really hard to accept, eh? I don't talk much about my past, and there it was right in front of you, with all my stupid mistakes and everything."

She had to make Kane understand that her past was a black smudge on her personality, something she thought was better not to mess up other people with. Hawthorne was fairly certain that anyone who spent too much time with her would be tainted by the stain of her misdeeds.

Kane nodded. He didn't like talking about his past all that much either, much less showing it to people. " Everyone makes stupid mistakes. I made them, I did it all the time. I should 'ave never gone off to all those training sessions and left my mother alone with 'im but I did. And I tried to make up for it by saving 'er but now apparently 'e is getting out." He explained.

Kane stopped himself, thinking on it for a moment. Maybe he should go home and wait and try to protect his mother. But the more he thought about it the more he realised that his Uncle would be more than capable of taking care of David on his own. " I'm not gonna go running back 'ome to save 'er, my uncle can 'andle my father with no trouble. I'm gonna stay 'ere, to 'elp you with whatever problems you might 'ave." He added.
