You Know My Name... (Sora)
It was not unusual to see Vash training. The peculiar part was that he had decided to go to Harrison Cove for his training that day. The resistence the sand brought was perfect for building stronger leg muscles to move faster than his demonic gifts allowed him. The boy was known for pushing himself to his limits, always trying to grow in strength. His reasons were typically is own, but there were some at Manga High he wished to protect which only drove his determination.

At the moment, he practiced his forms with his sword. It was nothing flashy, but the blade had proved mroe than formidable in the past. Some would even say it had it's own supernatural power to it. It sang as he slashed and swiped with it, cutting through the air in a perect cut each time. It was an excellent blade to have and he held it in high regards. Afterall, it had saved his life on several occasions.

His forms flowed with years of training, finally having perfected some of the more precise moves. The blade was a flurry of strikes in the air, covering a large volume of space. His foot work was superbe but he felt his body dragging in the sand. It was definately slowing him down. He grunted in frustration before throwing his sword into the ground. The beach was a tricky piece of terrain and he was now only finding out how true that was. Little did he know more practice was coming his way...

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
The 'practice' on the way was in the form of a fellow student of Manga High. Possibly not as well known as the demonic one working with his sword in the stand, yet his name was becoming more and more spoken around campus lately. Pretty boy, coneited, self-serving, any of a myriad of titles preceeded the label his parents attached at his birth, but what was left after crossing paths with this unique youth was simply dropped jaws and reevaluation of the hearsay that had preceeded him.

Dressed brightly as always, he wore a pair of yellow board shorts and a simple white tank top for his walk on the beach this afternoon. He'd heard the name Hellsinger here and there, hadn't associated a face with the name quite yet, but there was no mistaking who the young man training a few yards from him was.

The darkly clad student seemed to have a way with his blade, even on the inconsistent footing of the sandy beach he had perfect control over the blade. 'He's not one to make an enemy of.' Darrien thought as he approached him with a single thought in mind.

"Mr. Hellsinger I presume?"

Formalities first, lest you want your manners scourned. Perhaps this was an out of place thought, but Darrien couldn't help but wonder what could come of a bit of sparring with the dunpeal. First, however, they'd need to form a loose aquaintence. Sparring between strangers, especially around this school, quickly became a battle for blood.

He hadn't heard the boy coming. He was too focused on the work at hand. He was short of breath and trying to catch it in futility. His limbs suddenly felt heavy and the hunter's leggs shuddered a few times before he straightened himself out. If he had known someone was watching, the faulter would not have existed. However, Vash had only one hint and it had come too late for him to change his mistake of showing a slight weakness.

"Mr. Hellsinger I presume?"

"Who needs to know?" he replied, sounding much stronger than he had previously looked while picking his sword back up.

The grains of sand trickled down from the blade before he dusted it off on his jacket. He made sure the blade was clean at all time, in case he would insult his father by keeping it dirty a second longer. His eyes then focused on the new comer, his eyes glowing that fearsom red. It was unsettling, even when Vash saw himself in the mirror. The simple effect of not being able to see anything but two slits of pure red gave the worry of not being able to rread your opponent in a fight, an advantage Vash held above all others. Truly a boy built for war.

The sudden change in dimeanor from Vash gave Darrien a slight chill. He had made an attempt to read the young man, judging by his stance after a few moments of training. Robbed of breath as he was, then to respond with a tall and daunting tone to his voice, clearly this was the boy Darrien had heard tell of.

"Who needs to know?"

"It's not so much a matter of necesity, but of curiosity. Name's Darrien Hessel. Have to say, now that I've met the man of the myth I'm impressed, for once the rumors were true."

It wasn't his intention to allow such a pompous tone to float through as he spoke, but it was natural. Assume the point of command in the situation, words taught to him by the wisest man he knew, words he heeded at all times.

Looking into the red slits torn through the backround of black, Darrien couldn't help but show a visible chill rifling through his shoulders. He pressed the blue tinted sunglasses he wore a little closer to his eyes, hoping to shield them a little from the pentrating stare in those red voids beneath Vash's hat.

He could see Darrien was shaken by Vash's stature. It was ment to be imposing and the dunpeal was pleased to see it still worked. It was even better to see the boy physically shudder before pushing his glasses back into his face. It made the hunter smirk as his twisted side felt a little more than pleased with it's work.

"It's not so much a matter of necesity, but of curiosity. Name's Darrien Hessel. Have to say, now that I've met the man of the myth I'm impressed, for once the rumors were true."

The challenger was another of those hot-shot fighters that thought they had a chance against him. How typical. Vash seemed to have a little bit of a reputation around Buffalo as the man to see if you wanted to fight but it was beginning to get annoying. He had training to do and there was no time for pathetic brawlers. He almost sighed but refrained, deeming it impolite. The hunter would just have to take the five minutes out of his shcedual to teach this boy a lesson.

"I suppose you are here to fight," Vash said, getting right to the point.

"I suppose you are here to fight,"

To the point, precise, the voices hadn't lied. True, Darrien fancied himself as a talented fighter, but he wasn't one to label his 'style' as a 'fighting' style. The internal rhythm with him was strong, and he considered what he did simply to be a style of dance.

Regaining his composure quickly, he trained his eyes down from the dunpeal's own, all the way to the sandy ground beneath his feet. He harbored no delusion that he could make Vash humble before him, he was simply interested in a test. If his rhythm was gaining strength, he'd be able to battle to a draw with Vash Hellsinger, or at least close to it.

"A bit of a spar actually. No weapons, no lethal force, just you and me."

A grin formed on his lips after he spoke, and he pulled his stare back up to meet the red lights in the darkness of Vash's face.

"Seems you were looking for someone to cross your path, what with training in such a wide open area and all. Appears we're in a position to quench each other's needs in the perdicament, eh?"

"A bit of a spar actually. No weapons, no lethal force, just you and me."

Now this was an interesting development. Vash ahd never expected anyone to seek him out for a friendly scrap. It was welcomed, in fact, by a large smirk on the boy's face, his right fang gleaming. A fight was a fight, but an invitation to a sparring match was much different. It ment he had no intention to gain fame from it. You never went all out in a sparring match, especially since they were non-lethal. Though the dunpeal didn't ever enjoy using lethal force against small time fighters, he wasn't against using some of his more lethal powers to a lesser extent.

The rules of the fight were just sinking in after his inital joy. No weapons? Well, that would hamper him just a little bit. He lifted his sword arm and spun the blade around a few times before sheathing it quickly. He then set himself up in his Dark Fist stance. He slowly spread his legs apart a little past shoulder length. His left hand resting at his side, his right lifted infront of him to block with the back of his forearm. It was a simple stance that provided excellent speed and power. Now in his stance, he awaited Darrien's responce with saying anything else, trying to get himself in the proper frame of mind.

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
He watched as Vash assumed his stance, looking for any points of weakness he could exploit and adjusting his routine accordingly. One thing the voices hadn't mentioned was how sound he was. Every position his limbs took had a purpose, no frivolous placements meant no wasted energy.

Darrien made a bit of a show, spreading his arms and falling backwards a little, then twisting his hips so that his hands caught on the ground and he was upended. Folding his elbows, he pressed his head to the sandy ground and spun a complete rotation, then pushed into a backflip and landed on his feet once more. This wasn't entirely to show off, he ruled out using any windmill spins unless he was in a pinch. Who liked having sand in their hair?

Vash's seven inch height advantage was the most apparent advantage the dunpeal had, but not the only. His stance was tempered to the precision of years of training, and Darrien's capoeira didn't exactly have a stance to begin with. It seemed, while the young rainbow haired boy had been in his share of scraps, that his adversary in this spar was clearly more seasoned in combat. All these added up to one very unappealing conclusion: Darrien was in for a rude awakening if he thought he was going to match Vash even up.

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
Vash wasn't sure if the boy was trying to show off or if he was warming up. It was a strange style to fighting that his adversary had adopted if the latter was true. He needed to be careful with this judgement. The entire fight could be bent on the hunter's estimation of the situation. Just to be sure, he would have to assume it was incorperated into the boy's style and just hope he made the right call.

With this in mind, Vash decided to go on the attack. His usual strategy of skirmmish tactics would probably be best for the initial hits of the match. He always loved the fact that being airborn made him formidable no matter what. The hunter decided that would be his best chance if this boy really was a whirling dervish in a fight. He had never seen such a style and by impulse was afraid of it. He never showed it on his face, but he felt uneasy about the thought.

Switching the weight of his stance to his back leg, the dunpeal quickly pulled his front foot backwards, behind his left foot and switching his stance. His right hand came back behind his left, which was now blocking, to commit to some sort of assault. The weight then shifted back to his front as he lept into the air, climbing high and fast. Once he reached the peak of the jump, which was about twelve feet into the air, he came down fast with his left shoulder first. His attack would be swift and if he could break the boy's guard it would all be over during his leaping style of assault. Attacking from different directions at a rapid tempo gave usually gave the dunpeal a simple an efficient victory. Hopefully that skill would continue on through this fight as well.

Just like that, they were off to a quick start. Being put on the defensive from the start wasn't alien to Darrien, he never attacked first. He'd bide his time, coaxing his opponent intoo falling into the trap of close range combat with the ambidextrous boy. He hadn't carried the sais with him today, not that they'd have been used at all in this good natured spar.

When he saw Vash take off from the ground, he did his best to contain the awe of the shocking development. His fluid stance was quick to adjust to any situation, but there wasn't much you could do to counter an aerial assault but avoid it, right?

When the dunpeal reached the apex of his leap, Darrien forced his weight to his left side. With Vash careening down, gaining the aid of gravity, Darrien was falling away from him as quickly as he could.

Vash's lead shoulder made solid contact with Darrien's upswinging right leg, causing the pain receptors in it to flare into activity. However, the strike to his lagging leg was the resistance he needed to keep from falling over completely. Catching himself on his left arm, then pushing off with his right leg, he came around full circle using the planted hand as a pivot. He pulled his right leg around in an attempt to strike while his opponent was in recovery from his own assault.

Pain killers: $4; Ace Wrap for bruised muscles: $2; Using your opponent's offense to fuel your own: priceless.

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
The move would have been beautiful. It would have kept Vash at bay and struck him down hard. It would have most likely been the turning point of the fight! Unfortunately, Vash had other plans. He had never planned to lead in with his shoulder. His hand was poised for a counter attack, waiting for the proper moment to strike. The kick was the attack the hunter had expected to come after his little display while warming up. Now the execution would be his only worry.

With his left arm he went blow for blow with the kick, throwing it in the opposite direction with his momentum and superior strength. The toss was at his full power, attempting to swing it back as much as possible. It would leave his opponent open for his quick attacks. Once he landed, he knew it was chance. He had no time to look, no time to feel it out before his adversary would get his footing back. He wanted to get a few attacks in before jumping away once more.

With a swift motion, he kicked Darrien in his side with a good amount of force. The kick would send him violently to one side. Vash took advantage of this and used his prepared right hand to attack from the opposite side. His long reach helped with this, landing a hammering blow to the side of the boy's neck. Afterwards, the dunpeal needed to escape. He quickly pulled Darrien down, face fisrt and kicked off his back to leap out of the action. Landing about ten feet away, Vash turned towards his opponent and set up his Dark Fist stance once more, awaiting to see what kind of damamge he had inflicted.

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
0 for 1 Darrien thought as his first envoy failed to meet its mark. Perhaps his own conceit had clouded his better judgement, this wasn't a bout to be taken as lightly as he appeared to want to. The blow to his side caught him off gaurd, combined with the unsteadiness of the ground, causing him to slip into a completly open free-fall. His preoccupation with attempting to find a hold on the ground allowed for the blow to his neck, causing a recoil of his head, allowing him to be pulled down into a compromising position, giving Vash his escape.

Outfoxd on the first exchange of their duel, Darrien contemplated a recovery while Vash made his quick escape. His face pushed in the sand, he wanted to vault forward toward the dunpeal, keeping the combat at close range. However, the force the dunpeal exerted onto his back created enough momentum the other way he had no choice but to allow his body to fall flat on his stomach.

Smooth move genius. he scorned himself for allowing such a humiliatingly wide open attack to land on him. Rolling over onto his back, he tucked his knees close to his chest and vaulted back up to his feet.

Without a moment's thought, he charged Vash on the ground. Aerial combat wasn't his strongest suit, so he'd attempt to avoid leaping from the ground at all costs. After only a couple of powerful strides, he was three feet in front of Vash. Lungingin with his left arm leading, he threw his weight toward Vash's right shoulder. He kept his center foucused on his right, planted, foot, just in case he'd be in need of a hasty adjustment to his assault.

The damage dealt from the blows landed was minimal, his muscular stomach absorbed much of the blow when it instinctively contracted to support the weight of his outstretched lower body, and his neck throbbed slightly, but a fighter that couldn't get on with a little pain wasn't much of anything at all, was he?

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
The fight was going Vash's way. From the first move he had controlled the fight and wanted to keep control. His senses were sharp and his form was perfect. He was also slowly learning how to manipulate the sand to gain the upper hand. It slowed you down while running and made it difficult to keep footing, but it's ability to stop someone and the advantage of slowly moving opponents made his skirmish tactics very effective.

Now Darrien tried to make a counter attack. He charged at Vash, bounding through the sand like a professional. It was fast but not fast enough. He led with his left hand, striking out at Vash's right shoulder. It was easy to block in his position. With a simple switch of his hand he caught the incoming blow with ease. The force was stronger, however, and he could feel the sand sliding beneath him.

Now, he had to retaliate before Darrien took the advantage. If anything, it would simply keep the boy from striking again. With a simple kick with his left leg, he aimed for Darrien's ribs. He knew his opponent would block, but he just needed to take the fight back to the air rather than have him grappling all the time.

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
The shot to Vash's shoulder had failed, falling perfectly in line with the plan Darrien had for the strike. He even went so far as to assume Vash's placement for counter would be central body again. Taking a shot to his middle was the worst place for Darrien to be hit, either side and he could use the momentum from the blow to go into a spin, high or low could aid in a flip either way. The center, however, was his dead zone.

With his leading left hand caught in Vash's grasp, he started to allow his plant foot to slide out from under him. By the time Vash had let go of the hand and threw a kick to Darrien's ribs, his body was slipping quickly to the ground, which cushioned the blow. When the sand killed his sliding momentum a second later, he had already begun arcing his legs into the air behind Vash.

Sacraficing his upper body to a direct attack (arms pale in comparison when attempting to stop leg power), he swung both of his legs; right leading before left in the air toward the small of Vash's back. Keeping his left hand in to make an attempt, even if a vain one, at deflecting any attack made to his head, he put his right palm to the ground for a push off, setting up his next motion.

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
His adversary was squirrely, Vash could give him that much. As the hunter tried a counter-attack against Darrien's punch, he soon found out that the skill level of the boy was beyond what he initally thought. He had used the sand to eprfectly slide between his legs in an attempt to catch him off-guard. It was an admirable move and accomplished it's goal, at least to a lesser extent. Vash certainly hadn't expected anything like that and the surprises would only continue from there.

The type of attack Darrien sued was foriegn to the hunter and he wasn't exactly sure how to react. Spinning on his left foot, he quickly turned to face the incoming kicks, half prepared for some sort of devistating blow. It was mind boggling how his opponent used the momentum from his slide to connect into the spinning kicks he was suing at that very moment. Vash was stunned and almost let the kicks catch him unchallenged. Luckily, he snapped out of his daze just in time to get an arm up.

The blow given by Darrien's right leg struck hard, sending the dunpeal stumbling backwards. This was somewhat a blessing in disguise as the second kick fell short of hitting. Vash's arm now felt sore from the impact. He wished he could have blocked it under better circumstances to negate the childish defense he had mustered in his last second. It throbbed with pain for a few seconds beofr ehis body began working on repairing the damage delt. The endorphines came to the rescue and as he stretched out his hand to make sure it was alright, he noticed Darrien already chaining his combo into the next stage.

So this is a dervish? he thought to himself. An interesting form. I am glad to have finally seen it, though I must be warry and keep my distance until I can find an opening.

That was certainly unexpected. Darrien had figured on his attack flying amiss and taking a shot to his exposed upper body on the ground, but he connected with a poorly timed block attempt. The element of surprise was Darrien's friend and enemy, as we'll soon discover.

The opposite force from Vash's block gave Darrien the counter-push he needed. Pushing with his right arm, he lifted himself into a on handed handstand, then struck the ground with his left hand. Tucking his knees in to hios chest, the young master flipped end over end to his feet.

When he landed, he craned his neck to face his opponent. Rules of a fair engagement, alternate assaults, and since he had dove in for his just then, it was, by rule, Vash's turn. So, with the confident smirk on his face, he flashed a glance to Vash, then ran a hand through his hair to shake the sand to the ground.

Standing in a fluid ready stance, he simply waited for the dunpeal to make his move. Problem with an overabundance of confidence, your head swelled bigger than any injury you'd ever suffer.

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
Darrien knew that bullrush tactics would win him the fight, so Vash needed to find an alternate solution. Skirmish tactics seemed to be the way to go, but that didn't solve the problem of an adversary that constantly used offense as a defense. Darrien's strategy was pure and simple: attack all sides until you catch your opponent, then make sure your attack is a constant flurry of blows until they fall. This dervish would prove an exciting challenge on a terrain the hunter wasn't familiar with.

Vash's opponent then stopped, beckoning him to charge once more. He kenw it was a trap. Even if they were trading blows, Darrien was prepared for a direct assault. The hunter needed to find an alternate method of coming at the flashy fighter to somehow catch him off guard. When you attacked from all sides, it was difficult to do so, but Vash had an idea. He could hope it would work.

Without even taking a stance, the hunter charged at his prey without hesitation. His arms were flying behind him, his body cutting through the wind as he ran as quickly as he could. In a matter of seconds he was right infront of Darrien and ready to attack with a brutal force. The dunpeal crouched low before putting his ahnds down ontot he ground to support himself. With the same skill as the dervish, he made a powerful and quickk leg sweep with both of his legs, pivoting on his hands. After the sweep he went back into his crouching position and jumped straight up to avoid any counter attack. It was a small jump, only reaching about 4 feet before Vash came down with another strong punch to try and wear down Darrien with sheer strength of blows.

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
Baiting his opponent with the play boy stance might not have been his best decision he'd ever made. True enough, Vash did charge in for a close range exchange, but the leg sweep was not something he expected. His legs were struck without any manner of leap attempted to dodge the attack, sending him in a fall sideways.

The bewilderment of being caught off guard lasted just as long as it took for his legs to be struck; in his ensuing fall, Darrien was already working an angle to create a retaliatory attack. He caught sight of Vash leaping into the air, which bought him the split second he'd need to mount a counter.

Thrusting his hand to the ground, he created a pivot point to lift a kick from the opposite side. The blow Vash delivered from the jump was a bit harder than Darrien had prepared for, but the tensing of his muscles dispersed the pain so it offered a minimal hinderance. Taking the full force of the blow to his upper body propelled Darrien's lower body into the air, sweeping his right leg behind his left in a fanning motion up to his foe's exposed back side. His plant hand was rendered useless by the attack, but his free hand quickly snapped around to push into the ground behind his head, so that if needed, he could carry his momentum into a handstand. If Vash avoided the volley from his legs, Darrien would at least be able to see his opponent, upside down is better than not at all.

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
The kid was good. Vash hadn't had such an exhilarating fight for a long time. The whirling dirvish of a style was throwing Vash's concept of combat directly out the window. However, the dunpeal was known for his own combat mastery. As his previous concepts were being shattered, a process of re-building was being calculated. Soon, the hunter would catch onto the style enough to win this sparring match. Afterall, he could draw out the combat longer than any human could!

For now, Vash was forced to take the defensive. Darrien had made a tricky move by attacking from a handstand with his feet. The kick came from behind and the dunpeal had to quickly spin around to block it. Unfortunately, he was slammed hard into the sand. The second attack was easy to keep away from. The explosion of sand flew up into the air as the hunter pushed himself away with his feet and arms. The kick landed hard, but luckily he had cleared the impact site well before then. He slid a few feet before coming to a stop by using his feet and claws.

His opponent seemed air-tight. The boy's guard was up, he was mid-attack and it was impossible to even break through; it was time to strike! Anyone who fought Vash knew he was infamous for making normally insane moves and twisting them to work to his advantage. An instant after coming toa dead stop the dunpeal shot right back at Darrien, a full on bullrush with no particular wind-up for an attack. What exactly was on the hunter's mind was impossible to read. Did he even have a plan?

The momentum from his flipping attack was halted when his heel met with Vash; a surprise Darrien wasn't exactly prepared for. It was a slight struggle to retain balance in the handstand, but he managed with a bit of a thrust into the air to return his muscles to a state of rest and readiness. When he turned on his palms to face his opponent, he was awe struck by how quickly he'd remounted an attack.

With the impact of the charging darkness imminent, Darrien did the only thing he could think to do. He pushed into the ground with all his might, sending his body into the air. Arching himself so that he could see the charge from his opponent, he simply hoped his leap of faith would be a success. He was a lame duck off the ground, and he feared Vash knew this.

Re: You Know My Name... (Sora)
It was almost too perfect! Darrien had decided to try and jump into the air to avoid Vash's bullrush. Instead of having to find a good kick to catch in order to throw the boy, his opponent had simply set himself up to be destroyed. As he had previously thought: now was his chance to strike!

As Darrien flipped into the air, Vash closed in with one large leap. The hunter was upon his prey in a couple seconds with his sheer momentum and muscle strength. As he got right underneath his adversary, Vash planted his hand onto the ground to keep himself steady. His attacks were in the form of two well placed kicks, one going for the boy's right side and the other to hit him straight up into the air. His claws then gripped into the sand and gave a sudden stop to the rushing attack. With Darrien above him, he would be easy pickings for his aerial maneuverability.
