Discussion: Stamps.
Now, I know that e-mail is fantastic and we all love using it, but I was wondering about stamps. Surely some of you are still stuck paying bills or are busy sending out Christmas cards or some such thing.

So.

Which stamps are better: the kind you have to lick or the kind that are like stickers?

Feel free to post images of your favourite stamps as well. ;)

Re: Discussion: Stamps.
I hate licking stamps. Those things are so yucky and they leave that "stamp" (you know the one) taste in your mouth.

That one is pretty. My aunt once bought me stamps from a foreign country off the TV. Pretty sure that they are Canadian and she probably paid about 50 bucks for 3 stamps and a Certificate of Authenticity. Sucker.

I'm not much into philately, so I wont be much into a discussion on it. So to summarize: Sticky stamps rule! So there. That's my story.

Re: Discussion: Stamps.
OK, sticking stamps are just waaaay more practical.

But the oldfashioned licking stamps have that quality of being collected by people, steaming them off envelopes (my sis used to collect them). They have more charm and the feeling of the good-old-days.

So I'm going with LICKING STAMPS

Lickalicious.
Oh, I so prefer the licky ones! They are way cooler and old fashioned and groovy. I like the taste of them. It's nice. If I could, I would eat them all day long. In little stamp sandwiches. Yum.
Another reason I like the licky ones is because I don't think I can get the sticky ones here. I haven't actually sent a letter in yonks, so I don't know. But the last few times I've sent letters I get the the licky ones with little pictures of birds on them. Woot. >D

Re: Lickalicious.
Wow, I didn't think anyone would pick the licky ones!

Heh. Licky. Good times. :D

I have to go with sticky. I've often had the nasty taste in my mouth for hours afterwards, since I used to go long breaks in the day without eating, usually due to my overly-acheiving study habits (those have long-since died, though). I like the way that you can just peel it off. And if you put the stamp on in the wrong corner, you can just peel it off and fix it - you can't do that with a licky stamp. I also like the sticker-type envelopes. It'd be neat to steam them open, or to have that option, I mean, only...when would I ever do that? I don't really get that opportunity too often. Maybe I need to start stealing people's mail?

Hmm...

YUCKY LICKY
I would like extend my sticker stamp vote to include a sticker envelope vote.

Maybe I feel this way because I used to have to help my mom with her Christmas cards and she sends about, um, I don't know, 1,000 or so, and I would have to lick envelope and like stamp until my toungue stuck to the roof of my mouth. *shivers from flashback* auck!

Another reason that I like sticky stamps is that if the postoffice makes a mistake and misses the stamp with the postage paid mark, you can peel it off and reuse it!

Oh- uh- that's a federal crime by the way... I've heard of people thinking of doing that, but have NEVER done that myself or have known other poor college students who did that too, I mean did not do that.

Really? That's a federal crime? Well...damn. But isn't that why they stamp the stamp with the time thing? That was really repetitive. But do you know what I mean? I think they try to mark the stamp somehow so that it can't be re-used. Clever dudes, right there. :hat

I used to like the licky ones when I was smaller, cause they gave me something to do. Maybe it's just an oral fixation? I'm really not sure.

Re: Letters...
Turns out we do have sticky stamps, had them for a long time some people say. I never got or noticed them before now, though. How weird. I should send more letters. The card swap letters are like the letters I've sent this year. E-mail is just so much faster . But then again, getting a real, solid letter is far better and more fun. Hmmm.

This is a stamp that just came out. Because U2 are like the only half decent band Ireland has produced they dedicated a stamp to them. Whooo. You can sort of see it here:

Re: Letters...
This is really not related to the actual discussion, but I am a fan of U2; but my real comment is about Irish bands. I could be totally off-base and please don't take this as an insult if I am, but aren't The Cranberries also an Irish band?

About the "insult" word, I had a friend, Peter, who was from Ireland, and I once got mixed up on if something was English vs Irish and he was very offended.

Re: Letters...
I think they are Irish, actually. That's good times. They look Irish. Very vibrant eyes.

Heh, I can't see the stamp but that's okay. I love it when they do stamps that aren't just flowers and things. They have Valentine's Day stamps that we seem to get every year now. It's weird. Ah well.

See? Now you know that there are sticky stamps! What a helpful board this is. Hhahahhhaha. :rolleyes

Re: Letters...
Yeah, The Cranberries are Irish. They come from Limerick. Whoo.
I actually thought they came from Northern Ireland up until about ten minutes ago. My sister informed me otherwise.
They are cool. Limerick is cool also.
The Thrills are allright, I suppose. I don't like them but other people seem to like them. In all fairness they are quite good. They could be worse. (coughwestlifecough)
I like Snow Patrol too. I think they come from Northern Ireland so they don't really count as a Irish band, do they? Though I could be going crackers and assume that everyone lives in Northern Ireland.

Oh, and the stamp isn't coming up for me either. It must be cursed. It's orange and has a picture of them on it. It's cool. This site does teach me a lot. I have learned many things.
I had to figure out not to eat pritt stick by myself, though. That sucked.

Re: Letters...
What's pritt stick? And I've never heard of those other bands. That's not entirely surprising, however, since it takes me a long time to hear about anything. I'm usually the last person to know stuff. I'm used to it by now. ;)

Stamps are educational? Bugger.

I remember the local post office used to send me stuff when I was a kid. Like...fake stamps. But they were of stuff that said "party time!" and all that. Extra licking, and for what? "Party time!" No, thank you. Heh.
