Voting Problem, Richmond City Precinct 9-11
When I went to vote at 7:00 this morning, there was a line of 7 people waiting to vote. While 2 machines were present in the precinct, only one of them was open, which resulted in a 20 minute wait to vote. I spoke with the precinct captain about this, and asked her why the second machine was not being made available, as there were people in the line who needed to get to work. The precinct captain told me that she didn't see a need to open the second machine. I called the Supervisor of Elections, who told me that she would look into it. About 9:00, I spoke with a friend who told me that when she arrived, there were 20 people in line, resulting in a 45 minute wait, and the second machine was still not being made available. She also reported to me that people were leaving without voting because of the extraordinary length of the wait.

Hmmm..
Seems to me that the problem is one of impatient voters. For some reason, some people seem o think that voting should be as fast or faster than going through the drive-thru at the local Wendy's.
One booth open or 20+, I take my voting duties seriously enough to stand in line as long as it takes to get the job done. In my opinion, if someone leaves and does not vote 'because the line is too long' then they do not take voting seriously enough. Nobody denied them the right to vote - they chose to leave.

Re: Hmmm..
Or perhaps they had to be at work -- and have employers who don't take employees' voting rights seriously.

Or they were just lazy
Doesn't matter if the employer is understanding. I believe that this state has laws protecting voting rights, including guaranteed time off.
If your employer is that big a jerk - change jobs.

Re: Or they were just lazy
I beg your pardon -- I did vote. I also have an employer with a brain, and I don't have kids to drop off at school. Have any of you holier-than-thous ever had to work an hourly job?

Waiting in line to vote
If the time required to wait in line to vote is not a relevant issue, as "Avid Voter" wrote, then how about this. What if in all heavily democratic districts, we impose 3 hour lines. Meanwhile, in heavily republican districts, we have 3 minute lines. I am sure "Avid Voter" would agree that this would not effect the election results, especially if the democratic district voters take "voting seriously enough".

Such an idiotic thing
Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. You voted didn't you? Just because you are impatient does not qualify you for disenfranchisement. If you don't like the way it was run, be a poll volunteer next year.
Now this Democratic party run website will waste thousands of dollars in Richmond taxpayer money for legal fees by forcing an unnecessary investigation. My question, when the investigation is over and no wrongdoing is found, will the Democratic party reimburse the taxpayer?
with all due respect, Avid
If we had paper ballots and a row of booths, would you feel differently if you had to wait an hour because the commissioner or uber-furher "saw no reason" to open the extra curtains?
Please.
Americans need to THINK about what's up here.
"He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures."
Where's that from? This kind of behaviour started a war, back when people cared about freedom.
As this site documents the myriad abuses across our once great country, remember that this is the two-year warning to the Second Civil War.

Wow Tweak
Another mountain out of a molehill. There could have been a very valid reason not to open the other booth. Maybe there was not enough staffing at the polling site. Maybe they were opening the booths in a staggered way so they wouldn't overwhelm the volunteers.
The statement you make about the "second civil war" is complete and utter nonesense. NO ONE has ANY basis in fact there is a conspiracy to prevent people from voting.
Volunteer at the polls next election if you don't like the way things were run this time.

AHHQUITCHERBELLYACHING!
If you voted, then what is the complaint? Another points out 'what if' dems wait 3 hours and reps wait 3 mins. okaaaayyyy. so we id the voter's preference at the polls and then time them as they inch through the line?

Why vote at all? It changes nothing. Real alternatives do not exist. No matter what politicians say before election... they don the opposite after being elected. It merely gives credence to our dictatorship. Politicians use their victory as a mandate to further violate our few remaining rights. ALL Parties are the same no matter what the pre-election premise was. Politicians are bought and paid for... some very cheaply! So, why vote and continue this fantasy of choice?

Why vote and continue the fantasy of choice?
Because the fantasy FEELs better than the TRUTH...and it is natural to seek pleasure and avoid pain.
No matter how such a conversation as this devolves, it always spirals away from a proper grounding. What is the most important consideration in a voting process? Accountability, I'd say. The voting process must be accountable...TO THE VOTERS. The casting, handling, and counting of the ballots should welcome the attention of voters and voter groups' representatives as a validation of the process. The fact that they don't is suspicious, logically.
The truth is that history is replete with mentions of conspiracy and fraud, especially in relation to politics. It is utter folly to imagine that the US, and the US alone, has conquered human nature! But, indeed, each voter is identically foolish, for how else could he plod through the hollow ritual...

For the Avid Voter
Of course voting should be as fast as getting a burger at Wendy's and faster. It's called "good service" and it is percisely what government should be working hard to provide. There is no excuse for not giving good service.

fraud: the bigger the better
avid troller, think about this...
to swing an election you don't need to identify single voters. just guarantee 3 hour waits in conservative-leaning precincts and 3 minutes in liberal ones. or vice versa. yeah, you disqualify some of your own voters, but you disqualify a hell of a lot more of theirs.

Voter Fraud in Virginia
Since when is voter fraud not relevant? All suspected fraud should be investigated especially now when stealing elections has become the law of the land.
