Re: The Messenger aka buzzkill
"Hell, I dunno... we do what we always done. We kill broo."
Targa rubs a hand over his wiry whiskers.
"Never seen so many broo though."

WTF
Atan's confused look reveals that he was caught off guard by Targa's response. Slowly a smirk spreads across his face, "Kill broo, aye."

Tagra
The farmers that were lingering in the longhouse run out into the night, presumably to gather their families and whatever belongings they can carry. Nrulias disappears behind a green wool curtain.
Tagra stretches his now fully healed torso, obviously pleased with his restoration. Then, noticing Atan's odd expression...
"I'm sorry lad, I lost my wits somewhere on Old Kurlew. I just never seen so many."
Taking a deep breath, Tagra claps his hands together. The act is like a sword being slammed into its scabbard as the old veteran shrugs off the confusion of the day and gets down to business.
"Atan, what sorta weapons do these people have? I lost my spear and bow on the mountain." Without pausing for an answer, the woodsman continues. "We can't stay behind these walls. The broo won't siege it and will burn the county down while we hide. Yimris, have you scouted the forest yonder?"

Re: WTF
"I don't think getting you a weapon will be too difficult. Not sure if they got a spear but the Olmanii tribesmen seem to have bows. And no, we havn't scouted the woods. This whole place is one big unknown and we don't have much time to figure out what we want to do. The nine you see here will fight. But against the numbers you faced, it would be suicide."

Tagra
"I lost count of the slain broo in the battle, so we don need worry about that thousand. I don know their plan but at first light we should see to the woods. If they come they come that way. I think for now we should get some sleep while we can. Even if they run straight here they miles away still."

Re: Tagra
"Perhaps we could lay a little trap for them?" muses Draxim stroking his silver beard. "I don't know much of the wood craft, but it seems to me, we should take advantage of the time we have. I will aid as I can. Is there a place through which they would likely travel on their way here?"

Re: Tagra
Sangraal backs up inspecting the broo arrowhead in his palm.
" Atan is right, we should wait and hear what the matriarch has to say. No use defending this village if the people choose to flee. Nrulias, what do you feel in your heart? Will the villagers fight? I pass no judgement this night on anyone wishing to leave, though I will stay and defend if the people choose to do so."

Re: Tagra
Meneloss looks around at his comrades. "I will shed my blood with you, my comrades." He says laden with melodrama. (He is still a little tipsy) He wonders aloud: "Is it possible to get word to Tunlura or Dobrug? What about the old watchtowers by the sea? If Grugni werre warned and a fire lit, would the other towers be able to spread the word?" He goes on: "Retreat against an innumerable foe is not dishonorable. Could we get theses people evacuated rather than fighting to our doom?"

Re: Tagra
Realizing that nothing will be happening immediately Atan takes a seat on a bench near Targa.
"I am sure Nrulias can find us a scout. Whether the villagers flee or stand will be decided once the Matriarch Hegi is awaken. Tunlara can't be more then eight....ten miles from here. More men and better defenses I would suppose. I won't hazard a guess to the villagers choice, but I would rather be outside these walls where we can move and fight."

Re: Tagra
After a few minutes Nrulias appears and informs the gathering that "Hegi has returned to her rest so that she may be prepared for the trials of tomorrow. In the morning she will speak to the forest, and the wise and watchful oaks will be our guide against the broo. Kashan, Bulh and I will ride tonight and gather the farmers. At the dawn we will know if we must flee to the walls of Tunlura."
[At this point Madragar and Vala acquire glassy stares - their minds falling under the sway of the GM. ]
The night passes into another cold gray dawn. Some, notably the three Merek Lek, sleep like stones. Others are awake for much of the night, wracked with anticipation of what the next day will bring. All night the massive wooden door of the village is in motion as dozens of small families are gathered behind the protection of the pallisade. They carry their possessions in canvas sacks and old chests. Some trail livestock along behind them which are taken to a small paddock beside the stables.
Sangraal and Kezib are awake and moving at dawn, though the sun is lost behind a wall of clouds. The bonfire circle is crowded with rows of sleeping farmers, their wives and children all crammed into the limited space of the longhouse.

Morning
Sangraal displays the holy symbol around his neck and moves among the refuges reciting litanies and prayers. Rote passed down for ages, litanies common to the ears of the refuges. He offers comfort attempting to pacify their fears ( as fear is contagious).
Spying a group of young children stirring noisily, pressed close to their mother,a huddle of brothers and sisters. He kneels and the children quite down.
Sangraal speaks softly of Orlanth and the war he waged against the darkness that held Yelm bound.
"Listen..." he says. " For Orlanth speaks through the wind, even now he calls his allies to arms. But you have to be quite to hear him. Soon you all will be back playing in the fields and streams, but till them abide by your mothers call."
Grinning to himself his stands up and moves down the lodge consoling those as he goes.

Re: Morning
Sangraal moves through the displaced villagers while Kezib rises and begins his exercises. As Yimris, Atan and Meneloss peer out from their bedrolls, and the others continue to doze, the acolyte Khras stops at the workhouse door.
"Our Lady asks that... if you are willing and accept... she asks if you... may, may you break your fast with her." The young man's stammering continues, clearly intimidated by the mysterious group of strangers. "At your convenience, if you like, in the longhouse..." Khras then turns and beats a hasty retreat.

Re: Morning
Draxim sits bolt upright in his new bedroll. "Did somebody mention breakfast?" He squares everything away, making sure not to cut any corners with his packing since the day will likely see a lot of action, and hurries to the long house. His companions notice him drinking a little more water then usual this morning.

Ruglan gets up and starts getting dressed. "It will be a glorious battle against these dark creatures. I think we will earn our keep soon enough." Then he splashes water on his face and goes to the long house to break his fast.

Grey Dawn
Atan rolls out of his bedroll and sets to packing with a methodical efficiency displayed by one who has done the task many times. When he finishes arranging his backpack he heads towards the waterbarrel, stepping over Yimris, "No, no. Don't get up, why don't you keep sleeping. I'll just send the Broo in when they get here."
After filling his water skin, he packs it away. Checking all his straps he ensures the load distribution is correct and no unneccessary noise emenates during movement. Once his gear is inspected and satifactory he heads to grab some breakfast with Hegi and see about finding a weapon for Targa.

Re: Grey Dawn
After a vigerous morning excersize and prayer, Kezib, feeling all the more limber and flexible, moves to splash some water on his sweaty face and head. From there, Kezib moves to fill his water skin and turns to Sangraal to see if he needs any help. Upon some arival of the villagers, Kezib will direct them, as best he can, to a suitable spot for the family. When he sees the group go for breakfast, he will follow.

re: Grey Dawn
Meneloss wakes with Sangraal and immediately goes to study his scrolls. He mutters to himself looking over his arcane runes and inscriptions. Again the serpent is coiled on the rolls of vellum and intently stares at the mage.

Re: re: Grey Dawn
After completing their diverse morning rituals the group staggers, shambles and slinks into the longhouse to join the mass of unwashed humanity as they take their morning meal. Men, women, and children of the Tunlura farmlands are all gathered here, spilling out of the longhouse and into the bonfire circle. The proud but poor farmers gather portions of bread, stew and meat from one of several tables and retreat to distribute the bounty to their families. Behind a table positioned at one end of the hall Hegi reclines on her chair, smiling at all who enter the longhosue to accept her generosity. As the group approaches, Hegi closes her eyes and lifts her hands up above her head. Her words are quiet and tremulous.
"Oh blessed Lady, our protector and light of the harvest. Your children are here gathered in the face of the Enemy. The gift of life and sustenance I ask for you to provide. These tired leaves, this water, this cold earth by your will revive!"
All around the room a transcendent light begins to shine as if the sun were breaking through the thatched roof itself. On the scattered tables the baskets of simple bread, the wide bowls of stew, and the plates of warm meat are all refilled. In moments the light fades, replaced by a mixed cry and cheer from the shifting, earth-tone mass of farmfolk. Some drop to their knees in praise of Chalana Arroy. Others holler out their thanks to Hegi herself. A few grab their portions and quickly scuttle away.
Hegi sighs after her prayer is complete. "Please, come, sit. We will speak of no evil until you have eaten your fill."

Re: re: Grey Dawn
Meneloss stands next to Draxim at the table laden with food. He helps himself to a generous portion, not knowing when or if another meal will be forthcoming. He stuffs his mouth with a large piece of bread and holds a bowl with both hands while he walks back to the table where his companions are seated. On the way he says to Draxim: "Ooo can awk ob ebiew wi' Oor mou mull eeeur" (you cant talk of evil with your maout full either!"

Atan fills his bowl and proceeds to Hegi's table. Sitting close to her, he poitely waits for her to start eating before he does.
