Noble for your thoughts
"Checking out the runes in the tower for the morning will be a good idea. Besides the money for Grugni those of us who can't assist in the tower can help in chores and such. I plan on going hunting in the morning and will try and bring back some additional food for her winter. Then at noon we can pack up and investigate the giant. Menlos, if you want I can help you with your swordwork and your verb conjugation while we travel? "

Teacher
Meneloss smiles at Atan, his face brightens. And he breaks into Elven: "Many Thanks to you Atan! I havve been longing to improve my speech in the tongue of Men. In the written word, I'm proficient, yet unlike you, I met Men for the first time scant weeks ago. Already I have gotten better, and with your help I will undoubtedly improve. Do not feel bashful in correcting me, as it is the only way I'll learn. As to the sword, I will be an ever dilligent student. Show me everything for there is much I have to learn." Suddenly Meneloss laughs. The humor in responding in Elven to Atan's offer at Moagari instruction dawns upon him. He then says in Moagari: "I thanks to you Atan."

To the tower
"I should like to attend the group that decends back into the tower. As a faithful servent of Yelm, I am not prone to the trickery of Chaos. "
[OOC: Scott, I took the gp off Sangraals eq list. Atan, Ruglin can you spare a little charity for Grugni? If not, I am sure chores would be just as appreciated.]

The Morning
Before everyone is able to see the rise of the sun, except for Sangraal, Kezib is out back practising what he learned back in the monestary. Upon teh recent events, Kezib has a renewed vigor that was once lost. Dealing with such creatures, Kezib feels that he needs to be in the best of shape possible. After about an hour of practice Kezib enters into the room and complies to Sangraals offer. Kezib gladly gives 2 gold pieces, as Kezib has been there for quite a long time.

Re: To the tower
Ruig intercepts Sangraal as he makes his rounds. "Well done young man. I wish I had thought of it. This is for Draxim and myself." Ruig passes Sangraal a gold Lunar.
[Kezib, that is A LOT of money for three nights at a traveller's house.]

Re: The Morning
After a meager breakfast the group begins their investigations. Atan (and presumably Yimris) go off into the pine forest to hunt while the others return to the tower to pursue further investigations.
[Those who want to be are under the tower. Explain what you want to accomplish and what methods you plan to use.]

Enigma Code
[OOC: Here are several ways I purpose to try and break the code.
1. Bring alot of torches for light. Try and read the runes on the alcove by staring at the reflection in the still pool.
2. Cast read magic and hope that Sangraal bonus's for being a cleric of Yelm help.
3. Act stumped till the GM gives us the clue we need.
Honestly choice number 1 is my best shot at it.

Re: Enigma Code
[With plenty of time to investigate I will assume, as I did for the earlier explorers, that you're taking 20.]
Upon first seeing the inscriptions Sangraal can immediately identify them as as not only magical in nature, but also written in Hvud-thrastine, a venerable and now forbidden language used by Chaos worshiping Moagarans. Although he cannot read the writing, even while magically aided, Sangraal concludes that the inscriptions form the instructions for a ceremony which is somehow related to the sacrifical pit.
In the advanced stages of his training, Sangraal was given very limited access to several aged parchments which bore some of this strange and sinister script. With the aid of Read Magic he was able to decipher these examples of Hvud-thrastine. He has no explanation, however, for why he cannot read the inscriptions now. Some additional enchantment could be laid over them, or it could be the nature of the cave itself.
The presence of additional torchlight seems to have no effect on the writings. Fire, at least, is not such an enemy of Chaos as is sunlight.
It is very difficult to read the inscriptions while standing in the pool, but with the icy water up to his knees Sangraal tries. Despite his best efforts no new information is revealed to him.
Sangraal concludes his investigations by acting stumped. Yelm, however, is not impressed.

Back at Grugni's
Draxim joins Ruglan and Meneloss for fencing lessons. "I've a mind to learn as much of the martial arts as I can," he says. He makes sure to thank Ruig when he sees him next.

[Considering what Madragar went through when he tried to cast spells in the cave, Sangraal decided to avoid the danger. He cast Read Magic in the tower then went straight to the inscriptions. However, if he'd like to try...]

Runes
Meneloss tries:
1) read magic spell
2) his crafty Elven eyes
3) he will try to copy the runes using charcoal from the fire on the floor of the cavern.

Re: Enigma Code
Madragar is satisfied. He concludes that nothing more will be learned in the Tower, and packs his bags while waiting for the others to come to the same conclusion.
He talks to Vala. [GM see note.]

Re: Runes
[I will continue to assume that no one else is going to try casting a spell in the cave unless I'm told otherwise.]
Meneloss' experience trying to read the runes is similar to Madragar's. He can't make heads or tails of them.
Meneloss checks his possessions but cannot produce any parchment with which to copy the runes. Removing part of his spell scroll is the only option but it is both very expensive paper and of particular value to Meneloss personally.

Blessing the unholy
Taking his leave of those still attempting to read the runes Sangraal makes his way to the surface.
He'll cast bless water on his waterskin and then begin slowly moving down to the sacrifical pit. Along the way Sangraal will perform purification rites on everything under the tower. Sprinkling holy water on everything as he moves down the tunnel to the dark pit.
Once he is done. Sangraal will take twenty and see if he can still sense chaos eminating from this place.

Re: Runes
Meneloss was trying to see if they could be transcribed at all. he wanted to write with charcoal on the floor. If they could be transcribed, would they still prove incomprehensible? (I wonder if the wall on which they are written has magical properties or is it the characters themselves?)
If it is all fruitless, he will shrug and make for the surface.
Where undoubtedly there is some debate as to what the group does next.
[Well what are we going to do?]

Re: Blessing the unholy
[The material component for bless water is 25gp of powered silver. Sangraal does not have this on hand.]
Sangraal barely needs to concentrate to determine that this place is still thick with the corruption of Chaos. He can feel it in the air and emanating from the rock from which this place is built.
Meneloss is able to transcribe a character or two onto the floor but they are no more comprehensible there than on the wall.

Re: Blessing the unholy
[Yup.]
Atan and Yimris return to the house around noon, layden with the morning's catch. Yimris strides down the hill with a smile on his face and a young doe over one shoulder, its belly wide open. Atan, not quite so pleased with himself, carries a clutch of rabbits at his belt.
Hanging the game from the lintel of Grugni's house they proceed to remove the pelts and carve off portions for lunch. There is much debate on how the tenderloin should be cut, and the two woodsmen continue their work while the group considers their next move.
