Re: Return to the hearth
Sangraal asks Gugni for something to eat as he stows his gear. Taking a prime seat by the fire Sangraal warms his travel weary feet.
Closing his eyes, Sangraal gives a silent prayer to Yelm for delivering all unharmed even though it is obvious that all have seen trials this past day.
Sensing ( and smelling) the appoach of Gugni Sangraal opens his eyes and silently finishes the prayer of thanks. Gugni carries a small bowl of fresh pumpkinbread and a cup of wine.
"Thank you Mistress" Sangraal gladly recieves the food and drink.
" Please all let us sit and we can retell of our adventures by warth of this nice fire."

Re: Return to the hearth
When Draxim hands Meneloss his rope and pitons, the elf recieves the goods with a smile. "I am glad these small things helps you." He leans close the the dwarf and says in a low tone so only Draxim can hear what Meneloss has to say:
"Do not worries that you feel sick at what you sees. It sounds horrible. It was not only fighting Broo that we did. We were late in finding them Draxim. They kills a family before we finded them. The monsters eated the family. One was a small child. Draxim, I am not sorry to tell you I cry when I see this. A baby with no eyes. I cannot forget this."
After his tale Meneloss loks at the ground and sighs. He then takes a breath and walks to the fire and grabs a wedge of pumpkin bread.
"I love this stuff!" he exclaims.
To Madragar, he says "I would like to see your puzzle friend."

[whenever Grugni comes by he will ask her if she does laundry and if so will the blood come out of his clothes]

Re: Return to the hearth
Once everyone is inside, Kezib looks to the sky. Pondering on the previous events he drops face down in prayer, giving repeated thanks that he and those around him have survived.
After a few minutes of silent meditation, Kezib stands, brushes the dust off, rubs his head and says to himself
"Time for food and a shave, but I doubt I will be able to find a razor at the lady dwarfs house".
He turns and walks in to see everyone sitting and eating some bread. Kezib finds Grugi and sheepishly asks "Forgive my ignorance, but might you have something I can use to shave my head with?"

Re: Return to the hearth
Not yet ready to go inside, Atan moves his gear over by the southern entry. Sitting down with his back to the building he rumages intently through his pack. With a little grunt of triumph he pulls forth a palm sized whet stone. Grasping his sword's hilt he draws it clear of the scabbard. Sharpening the blade with slow methodical strokes he starts to whistle a barely audible melodic elven tune.

Draxim approaches Grugni [spelling people!!! 8o ]and shyly asks if she needs help with her shutters. Or carrying in the wood. Or anything.

Re: Return to the hearth
Meneloss leans into Madaragar and whispers something to him.
He then says to Madaragar "I have walking all day, but I walk more. Madragar, I wish to look at the sea. Walks with me."
He then leaves his pack by the door and waits for Madragar to follow.

Re: Return to the hearth
As Madragar and Menelos step out through the doorway Atan stops sharpening his sword. Looking up at the two walking towards the water, "Hey lovebirds! Where you two sneaking off to?" As they walk on Atan shrugs, looks at Yimris and then chuckles to himself.

Drawn back to the task at hand he runs his thumb along the sword blade. Deciding that it is still not sharp enough he resumes whistling and restarts the rythmic "shhhhkk" of each whet stone stroke.

Re: Return to the hearth
"Come Kezib and tell me your view of the events under the tower." Sangraal says to Kezib.
" It seems the others do not wish to rest just yet, its just as good, more room by the fire for us. Master dwarf Ruig, Draxim, what was the stonework like down there? Dwarf craftsmanship?"

Sangraal now comfortably by the fire removes his boots, and warms his feet close to the hearths edge.

[OOC: Its mid-afternoon correct?]

Re: Return to the hearth
Though Madragar is surprised at the antics of the elf, a people he had heard spoken of as refined, he reveals no sign that he has heard Atan at all.

Re: Return to the hearth
[Midafternoon, aye.]

Ruig settles down on one of the long wooden benches by the fire as Grugni whips up a pumpkin and flour storm in the kitchen. Uncorking a new bottle of Grugni's quickly diminishing wine stock, Ruig seems to be preparing himself for a long tale.

"Ah, yes. The stonework. It was fine craftsmanship, but poorly maintained. The support beams were made of sharply carved granite, each bearing a depression in its top and a protrusion at its base. This is the Imperial style you see. How could I tell without toppling the columns? Dwarves understand these things young man. The stone speaks to us."

"Now, the flagstones were well set but there was a flaw, you see, which allowed us to pry up one of the massive blocks. That is where we buried the bodies we found, lest they be used as a tool of the darkness to cause further mischief."

"The huge doors that sealed the place, prior to the broo's intervention I presume, were of single slabs, each several inches thick. Yet, they moved smoothly on well oiled barings. Fine work. Fine. I cannot praise the sculptor that impressed upon those doors the runes that sealed it. They were precise, but seemed to be done in haste. One cannot rush such work."

"Beyond the door the very rock itself seemed to change. There were no blocks of stone, no bricks, nothing. The cave seemed to be... poured out like water. The whole place was like the undulating flesh of some mammoth beast, though it was stone sure enough. I was strange... there wasn't a single straight line in the architecture of that place - at least as far as I could detect. It was no Imperial craftsmanship."

Re: Return to the hearth
" I strange tale indeed Master dwarf. Did you gather any clue as to what the broo were doing down there? or if they even entered? The leader of the broo pack split and we proceeded after the main group out of concern for the country folk who inhabit these regions. Unfortunatly we gleened no knowledge or answer to the question of what the broo were doing and to what purpose. "
Sangraal sips at his wine and pulls his rapidly warming feet a little back fromthe hearth.
"And a purpose there was, for they ran like the wind possesed. I wonder if the elves would be able to figure out if they got into the tower?"
rapping the rim of his mug with a gentle finger Sangraal seems lost in thought for a moment.
" There was another thing, before we relized the broo split, we came across a makeshift shrine or something. I can't honestly say what it was for I have never seen such a thing before, but I can describe it."
Sangraal proceeds to describe in detail what he refers to as the spine shrine. An abomination to everything holy and good though he admits readily he has very little idea as to what it is.
" Maybe it was'nt a shrine at all... maybe it was a marker for someone to follow? Another broo pack?" Finishing he takes another pull of wine.

Re: Return to the hearth
"Indeed," agrees Draxim. "In fact the altar, which was a kind of conical pillar seemed to be drawn up from the surface of the rock, as if some massive giant had stuck his finger into it from underneath." he demonstrates on his cloak. " aye and the pit was the only place in the entire cavern, where the surface of the rock was interrupted by any sort of crack. completely smooth it was. Almost polished. It was as if someone had poured the stone the way that we pour gold or silver when casting." once again he pantomimes pouring liquid metl into a mold.

[EDIT:By the way this was meant to appear after Ruig spoke]

Re: Return to the hearth
"We found no evidence that the broo had entered the cavern, Sangraal. But the small stone disk you described that sealed the upper door shut was gone. They may have taken it, satisfied that the creatures that dwelled below would find their way to the surface. I really don't know..."

Re: Return to the hearth
"Draxim, I speak of a fetish we found in our path, something made by the broo as we tracked them." Sangraal decribes it again, as if mystified by the signifigance of it

[OOC: It is comprised of a thick branch maybe a foot in length driven straight into the ground. Atop the stick is the skull of some small forest animal, probably a fox. Hanging down from the skull, and swaying back and forth in the breeze, is the creature's spine tied together with a thin strand of vine. If it had flesh it would look like a fox-headed snake.]

" That though does not dimish the discovery of an altar under the tower. Indeed can you tell me about it at length? For maybe I could garner some knowledge from lessons taught long ago."

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
[Sangraal's Knowledge: Religion mostly pertains to Moagaran religion. However, his modest degree of training regarding Chaos does lend some insight. The "altar" they keep talking about is clearly associated with the sacrificial pit itself. Considering the nature of the slimey beast that lived therein, Sangraal believes that victims were tied to the spire of stone to be devoured by the beast.]

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
"spine shrine eh? Disgusting Broo! they have no business meddling in those sorts of things! That's better left to holy men like Ruig here. And yourself of course, Sangraal" Draxim goes a little redder than usual as he realizes that he might have inadvertently insulted the human devotee of Yelm.

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
A few minutes later, Madragar returns to the inn and resumes his meal at Vala's side, eating heartily.

"What tales of the Tower are told by the locals, mistress?" he asks Grugni.
