Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
"Tales, huh?" Grugni, in mid-mix, sets a bowl down and wipes her hands on her apron. "No tales that I know. This house is built from the timbers taken from that place, oh, ten years ago now. A few of my cousins tore down the second level of the tower, and the stairs too. No one's been up there since, as far as I know... except my dogs."

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
[Up there? I thought it was just an empty shell. Are there upper levels of the tower?]

"And no one has sought to enter the space below the tower in all the time you've been here? No little boys who played about in the tower? No previous incursions of the broo?"

Grugni ponders. "I think I remember Sangraal and Kezib saying that they found the trapdoor under several inches of dirt. You'll have to ask them..."

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
Interesting. He does that.
"Why were you digging in the tower in the first place?" he asks Sangraal and Kezib. "Had the broo disturbed the place?"

Finding the hatch
"Yelm guides in stange ways. I merely had a hunch, so I started tapping with the foot of my morningstar on the ground, I was suprised when my morningstar made contact with the wood hatch. The ground was undisturbed before we started to dig. When we uncovered the hatch it was sealed with wax. Unfortunately thinking the hatch was just stuck with age, I yanked it free. I quickly relized my mistake when something evil lashed out at myself and Kezib."

Re: Finding the hatch
Atan, who has apparently put away his sword, walks into the room with Yimris. Hearing Sangraals story he blurts out, "Did you say you knew there was something evil down there? That never really came out before a couple of days ago."
Sitting down at the table he addresses Yimris while smiling, "OK that settles it. We'll stay for a while."
Looking back to the group, "So lets go back to the tower and look around. Sangraal and Meneloss may be able to learn a few things about what this place is."

Return to the tower
Sangraals face grows somber and he speaks plainly to the others.
" We should post a guard to watch those as we sleep and to watch the tower to make sure nothing come out. Then in the morning, all who wish to, can go down into the earth to see the dancing words and search for more clues to this puzzle. "

Re: Return to the tower
Grinning, "Why should we wait? Is their still a threat from the ruins?"
Atan looks to Ruig, "Well master dwarf, you saw what was down there. What do you say to a foray right now?"

Re: Return to the tower
"We cleared the Tower out, don't worry. With 2 dwarves checking the masonry, you can be assured that the only mystery that remains to that place is the words on the wall and the mysterious aura that makes words travel slowly through the air. "

Re: Return to the tower
Ruig frowns. "I think perhaps we should all take the time to rest and consider this situation more fully. First, I believe it would be wise if we simply sat down and shared what we know of the tower, the broo, and those events that brought us all here. By Urox, it was no coincidence."

Re: Return to the tower
"I agree with staying here the night and posting guard. I fear that the broo are not done here and may come again. I shall take first guard, if it pleases everyone?" Kezib replies.

Re: Return to the tower
"I have told the tale of what we encountered below the tower," says Madragar in answer to Ruig's suggestion. "And that encompasses the whole of my knowledge about the place. Nor was I able discover any connection between it and the broo."
"I believe that whatever answer awaits us lies in the shifting runes I described. But they will have to await the morrow."

Re: Return to the tower
Atan starts tapping th table with his finger seemingly lost in though for just a moment. "Good point master dwarf. Our convergence here does seem a bit fortuitous." Sitting back on the bench he gazes out of Madam Grugni's still wrecked doorway towards the tower.
"I think we already told out story of how we came here but I will retell with some of the details I left out. They don't seem important to me but maybe they will mean something to you all. Three bands of Broo simulataneously entered into civilized land. The leader of the Merek Lek outside of Dobrug didn't have enough men to engage all three. Yimris and I were assigned the third and, I believe, the smallest warband of nine broo. We were to track and report.
The warband moved fairly slowly for broo and did act strangely. They would pause about every four hours," Atan looks over to Yimris holds up four fingers, ".....four hours right? Whenever they would stop they would all huddle around a circle and their Elk-headed leader would scratch in the dirt and gesticulate but from our observation distance we were unable to figure out what they were doing. Sure, we investigated the area where they would do this but it offered us no information. They only thing we could gather was that each time after this ritual the warband would start out again but with an adjusted course. Like they were being guided to this spot. Of course I am no wizard so I can not know for sure what they were doing. Anyways, after a week of this they brought us here. Obviously so they could search tower or open it or something."
Sitting forward again, Atan leans until his shoulders are hunched and touching the tables edge. "Know I wonder what those other two broo warbands were doing? Something similar? Hegi said that there were these watchtowers all over Moagara. Maybe they have some greater significance lost in time..... but not to the fell." Atan grins.

I'm back
The emptiness of the sea and the autumn chill makes Meneloss feel suddenly very alone. The limitless horizon, the iron grey skies and the impenetrable sea reflects back the young elf's sadness. In spite of his fascination with the sea, he cannot sit alone any longer. Longing for companionship, Meneloss walks back to Grugni's. Despite the other night's still visible destruction, the house is warm and pleasant. The fire, the scent of fresh baked pumpkin bread, and the sight of his companions eases away Meneloss' careworn gaze. He grabs his bedroll and immediately moves to the fire and warms himself from the ocean's chill. Seeing that all places are taken he sits on his bedroll crosslegged and listens to the conversation around the table.
He catches up to speed, with the conversation by whispering to Yimris, asking what's going on.
Meneloss then pipes in: "Madragar, I tolds to others why we goed from Dobrug. Maybe if you have not tells the Dwarves why, now is good time. I can see no big reason why we finded us here when we do, but Yelm works in his own ways."

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
Draxim noticing the gyrations of Meneloss, remembers that he no longer has a bed roll having sacrificed it to burn the creature in the pit. "I wonder if I can borrow a blanket from Grugni," he ponders. "No that would seem to forward." He begins asking about for scraps from his fellow adventruers.

"Umm... Meneloss, yer've been awful kind to me, an' I was wonderin'... Do you think I could borrow yer old clothes for like a pillow or somethin'? See, I burnt my bedroll and my blanket when that creature attacked us..."

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
"Yes Draxim." Meneloss gathers his bloodstained tunic and cloak from his pack. "Maybe this can be clean. In Grugni's kitchen is there soap and water that is hot? I am wishing I had better to gives to you." With that he hands the Dwarf the garments.

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
"Thanks very much! " he beams. "You're a real life saver!" Draxim's appreciation at receiving a tattered and bloody garment borders on overkill, but the aches and pains of the previous night are driving him now, and a stiff neck is not always politic. He sways toward the kitchen in search of soap and (cold) water. "Always cold for blood me Mam would say," he chuckles slightly. His voice changes slightly in parody of his mother's breathy croak: "Hot water sets a blood stain."
