Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
In Elven: "Though I have no desire to sit out in this storm of ill omen to guard the tower from threat above or below, it may be the prudent choice. Two nights ago, a storm like unto this, saw great peril. The elk head rooted about the tower doing his mischief while his servants kept us at bay in this house. If he comes back, I'd like to seta trap for him to keep him from coming back. Also the shadow which plagued our friends who scoured the cavern may also return. We should meet it ready. I will not guard alone however, and will find myself with the majority."
To the non-Elven speakers, Meneloss tries to explain his position in his broken strongly accented Moagari...

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
Stepping to the window Sangraal beathes deeply. " By the Light of Yelm, the events of the past day are tied to the circles of fate. The distant crashing of stone on stone, could mean war is afoot."
Sangraal turns to the party and speaks confidently.
" I feel it would be in our best interest to double watch during the darkest hours. These Broo beasts are not soft footed . A double watch can watch the tower from the house.[OOC: Can we see the tower from the house? Not at night. The sky is overcast. -GM] If we are worried about the tower we should spike the hatch shut. Anybody trying to open it will create enough of a racket that we could hear it and even if we did'nt hear it I doubt it would escape the ears of the mastiffs."
Sangraal indicates to the large dogs.
" Though I must admit I still need time to ponder these recent events, the circles of fate are moving."

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
Still looking out the window, Atan shrugs his shoulder. "There were rumors of a giant living somewhere on or near Old Kurlew, the highest mountain in the Turgut range. None of the Merek Lek ever saw the thing, though.
It's at least thirty miles to the mountains, so if the sounds are coming from there it is an angry giant indeed."
Stepping back he maneuvers past those looking out the window and retakes his seat at the table. " With the numbers we have a double watch hurts no ones sleep. Two people, two hours at time. The watch can stay in the house and once an hour walk up the hill to the tower. Yimris and Draxim, Atan and Madragar, Kazib and Ruglan, and Ruig, Sangraal and Menelos." Atan points at the pairings in order and says "First second, third and fourth watchs. Spell casters get the last watch so they can do what they need to do."
[ooc: As for our next step there is at least 4 things we can choose:
1. Stay here a day and continue investigating the tower.
2. Pursue the elk-head leader broo
3. Go investigate the possible giant/loud noise
4. Go back to the village Werthyn and seek employment
Interested in hearing peoples oppinions and any other options I may have missed.]

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
"This is good idea. When watches goes to see the tower, Grugni's dogs will keep house safe. Watches should not go alone to the tower."
Meneloss then takes this as his que to place his bedroll in a warm comfy spot, pull his new warm cloak about him and nodd off.
[ooc: The tower needs to be full explored tomorrow by the full resources of the party. The elves may find things previously overlooked.
The giant needs to be let be. We are 1st level here!
Ditto the Gorgon,
Becoming shepherds for the winter seems a bit dull but there will be giant wolves to fight!]

Re: Reunion at Grugni's House
[Still a mystery. Feel free to investigate.]
"What? Where's my turn at watch?" Vala says with not a little mock indignation. "I have been practicing with m'lady's crossbow all day and I am an excellent shot."
A smile slowly creeps over Vala's face before she and Grugni both erupt in laughter. The dwarven woman's chortling and Vala's nasal squeeks make an odd chorus. While Vala nearly doubles over from the hilarity of her own joke, Grugni sureptitiously moves the wine bottle from in front of the young woman to the other side of the table.
"Oh yes," Grugni declares. "We are safe from any gang of immobile pumpkins that comes this way."

Evening Prayer
Taking his cue from Meneloss, Sangraal sets his bedroll in the corner and places his prayermatt/pillow at its head. From his pack he removes a small leatherbound book a thin leather strap bound across it to keep it closed. After a brief time untieing the knot and flipping through many pages, Sangraal kneels at the foot of his bedroll. Sangraal begins to read quitely to himself. Those who care to listen hear an ancient verse, one of the first scribed down by Imperial historians, when they attempted to descipher the diverse religous structure of the Mogarii.
"Yelm my God,
He who wraps himself in light as with a garment;
he stretches out the heavens like a tent
and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.
He makes the clouds his chariot
and rides on the wings of the wind.
Wind is his messenger,
and brings the morning dawn.
He set the earth on its foundations;
it can never be moved.
He makes springs pour water into the ravines;
it flows between the mountains.
They give water to all the beasts of the field;
the wild horse quench their thirst.
The birds of the air nest by the waters;
they sing among the branches.
He waters the mountains from his upper chambers;
the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work.
He makes grass grow for the cattle,
and plants for man to cultivate-
bringing forth food from the earth:
the cedars of Cullwood he planted.
There the birds make their nests;
the stork has its home in the pine trees.
The high mountains belong to the rams;
the crags a refuge for the coneys.
The moon marks off the seasons,
and the winter sun sets.
Chaos bring darkness, it becomes night,
and all the beasts of the forest prowl.
The broo roar for their prey
and seek their food from Chaos.
he the sun rises, and they steal away;
they return and lie down in their dens.
Then man goes out to his work,
to his labor until evening.
May the glory of Yelm endure forever;
may Yelm rejoice in his works-
he who looks at the earth,
who touches the mountains,
and brings the morning dawn. "
Reverently Sangraal rebinds the book and places it back into the pack. Crawling into his bedroll he closes his eyes and nodds off to sleep.
[OOC: Wake Sangraal up when its his turn to watch, he'll put on his armor for his watch. ]

Yimris sits back and contemplates the prayer to Yelm.
[OOC, damn Whitney that was impressive]
[Also OOC, Scott has already pretty much told me that the elk head is gone. I think his exact words were, "You would never catch him." I think investigating the noise is important. It might be related to what the Broo have been up to. If it is in fact a giant then we run away and warn people.]

OOC musing
[OOC: I believe that after reading the under the tower portion that the ooze beast was the creature ment to be let loose. The ooze beast could probably move through any size hole. Which is why the rock tunel was so smooth and without joins, the magic on the door, and the wax covering the hatch. They were ment to keep it in. The barrels are made of wood and iron. Do we know if the beast could dissolve that stuff? The pickled humens were ment for future meals for the beast, it had probably laid dorment for years waiting for the priests to return to feed it. Now this does not explain why the broo tried to set it free. But I have a theory for that as well. The three broo bands each had a task to do. When finished they proabably all returned to the same location. Maybe the marker we found was a clue to the broo packs on where to go? Elk-head knowing that he was being followed split from the group hoping to go unnoticed by the pusuers untill it was to late. Which is exactly what happened. Maybe we should try and read the writing in the morning and then try and see if we can find out what the other Broo packs did. This assumes of course that I am 100% right, which is the big hole in my Dunnish theory. I am in general not 100% correct or sane. Precious......]

[valid points, but the text is significant. It may hold answers to our questions. We should try to read it again tomorrow. Then I guess it is giant tracking, shouldn't be too hard, they leave big footprints! ]

Re: Evening Prayer
[Very nice YT]
Kezib smiles as Sangraal finishes his prayer which brings him back to better times. The dim halls of the monestary which he called home for many years. The musty smell as he walked down the halls.
"Always follow through with your hit, never shorten your blow" Kezib remembers his teacher telling him, in what seems like ancient history.
The pain of the daily practice causes Kezib to wince as he rolls into bed. Maintaining a strict regiment of practice and sparing with others in the monestary, some good friends, some fierce competetors.
"Kezib," Thelos would say "I wont always be here to hold your hand and tell you to bend your knees and straighten your arms in the various stances. Repetitive practice will only cause you positive responses. I hated it too, when I was learning, but one day, you will be in a situation where the proper stance is needed for effective attacks. If you have to hesitate to remember the proper stance, you will be in a perilous situation"
Shaking his head, as if coming out of a dream, Kezib looks around the room. Noting the time, Kezib gets his bedroll out. Then proceeds to go out the back door to practice for half an hour then go to bed.

Morning...
So concludes a very exhausting two days. The night passes uneventfully with the constant sea breeze rattling through the shutters of Grugni's little house. A light rain patters against the roof for a few hours before giving way to a cold dawn.
Sangraal is up early, but looks in vain for the brilliant light of the morning sun. The sky is an infinite blanket of gray with clumps of darker clouds racing along beneath it. Rain seems likely.
Grugni apologizes but the breakfast is a less than satisfying affair. After three days with so many guests there isn't much to eat other than a few loaves of simple wheatbread, potatoes and rockfish. The wine is gone, along with the pumpkin bread.
"Sorry lads. I wasn't expecting so many, or for so long."

Grey Morning
"Your hospitality is more then we could have hoped for Mistress Grugni. The day looks to be a bad day to start traveling. We will check out the writing in the tower then most likely be on our way."
[OOC: Sangraal will privately go to each character and ask for a little donation so Grugni can fix her house and reprovision it. Then he'd like to present as a gift from all. If people feel so inclined.]

Re: Morning...
[Nice prayer, Whitney. I love to see good role-playing.]
Madragar readily agrees with Sangraal and on behalf of himself and Vala, hands over a single gold coin from his very limited stock.
Then, to the group at large, he declares "I believe that our first course of action should be to satisfy ourselves as to the Tower runes. Then, whatever course the rest of you may take, it is my duty to find a place of refuge for Vala. I believe it will be time to part ways."
"We should consider carefully the course of action we will take with the runes. Spells cannot be cast within the chamber. Incantations designed to reveal the meaning of the runes have failed, and I fear that naught can be done to improve on this failure at present."
[GM see note.]

Re: Grey Morning
Before the hub-ub of the moring starts, Meneloss moves off to a quiet corner of the house to study his scrolls. Angewitta slithers across the rolls of vellum marked with strange sigils and arcane characters. The snake seems to mimic some of the shapes on the scroll, or in other instances will make totally different shapes, to which Meneloss will nod in agreement and murmur in tones which neither Atan nor Yimris can comprehend. A bizarre and slightly disturbing scene indeed, which only Madragar grasps.
Meneloss does not read as long as he normally does and is finished in 20-30 minutes. He gathers his possessions and hands Sangraal a payment/donation of 5 silvers. The young elf is loath to pay so much for so little but gives in to the glaring eyes of his companions. [ooc:He only spent 2 nights there and certainly drank no more than a bottle of wine, The damage was sustained defending her house! If anything she should pay us for protection...]
As the crowd musters, Meneloss will solicits Ruglan for a fencing lesson to get the blood going in the morning.
"Ruglan, you shows to me sword work. I am wanting to know your ways of the sword."
[ooc: So the plan is to visit the tower, briefly and then investigate the Giant? Sounds better than shepherding, but I do want to kill some giant wolves!]

[OOC: its 5 cp a night, 1 sp for wine. For those who can spare it a gold is extremely kind, but who is better, the noble who give 10gp or the peasent who gives his last cp? Give what you can afford. I would like to assist her in rebuilding but since I don't think we have the time. Money will help her hire the help she'll need. Sangraal plans on providing 1 gp. And Madragar has generously given a gold to.]
