Bowstrings
During the meal, Meneloss says to Yimris in Elven: "Yimris, did you save the broken string? I may be able to repair it. I know a small charm of remaking. If you have kept both pieces, give them to me. In the morning I will bring you a string like new."

Beer & Bowstrings
While everyone is eating Atan raises his wooden mug and in a tone stronge enough to be heard by the small group, but not loud enough to distrub the others occupants of the long house, begins to speak. "I toast to you all! Scarcely a day we have known each other and it seems as a week. But I won't tary too long with this. Here is to driving the mongrel men back to Chaos itself!" Atan takes a stiff pull of his mug. Then raising his mug again, " But I must say that Chaos has learned at least one of our names today." Using his mug as pointer Atan addresses Ruglan, "That Broo in the grain field......." Breaking off Atan starts to laugh, "...... Ruglan Brooslayer! A difficult day well met! " After a drinking to Ruglan he sets his ale down and resumes eating.

Later , after finishing his bowl Atan stands and offers to get ale for any that need it. Returning with mugs brimming, he sits back down. Mug in hand, Atan looks to his companions, "You all know how it was Yimris and I came to Grugni's. But how is it that you all arrived there?"

Re: Beer & Bowstrings
To Atan's toasts and boasts, Meneloss smiles widely. The beer is beginning to have effect after a long day on an empty stomach. Meneloss answers Atan's question: "I came to Dobrug. My one night there I meets with Madragar. We goes to eat some things when this criminal who knows Madragar tries to take him away. I fighted with him, then I was hit hard on head. Next I wakes up and an elf had come and heals me. Druuga, the criminal, had run off but Dobrug is not safe for Madragar or me. So I leaves with him and Bryn. Then last night we get to Grugni and you knows story from there. Ruglan, when you were guard did you know this Druuga?"

Re: Beer & Bowstrings
Ruglan is his normal, tight-lipped self. He shakes his head and returns to his stew.

Re: Bowstrings
Yimris replies to Menelos in elven, "If I can find the string, I would greatly appreciate you fixing it. I would still like to barter for some spare strings if I can find someone that can sell them, or even the makings of them. More arrows would also probably be a good idea."

Re: Bowstrings
Atan appears intrigued by Menlos' last statement, "Did I understand you correctly? Madragar consorts with criminals?"

Beer and Bowstrings
Ruglan pauses from eating. "I remember hearing of this Druuga. One of the other guards in the barracks did mentioned him as being an elusive, though common criminal. I know nothing else about him." Ruglan takes a drink of ale and begins again. "Being a simple guard at the east gate, I spent most of my time answering stupid questions and searching through goods. It was a boring job, with the occasional excitement of finding too many weapons on a person, or a large sack of pipeweed." Ruglan smiles, while thinking for a moment, "There was this old man who would come through the gate almost every day. He was always carrying a duck under his arm. He would say that the duck could talk and would fetch a good price at the market. Every afternoon though, the man would be carrying the duck as he left to return to his village. I guess the man was just crazy. I never did hear that duck say anything." "No, there was no glory in that job. That is why I am here now. I wish for people to sing songs about my deeds and adventures someday."

Re: Beer and Bowstrings
Meneloss answers Atan in Elven "I do not know if Madragar 'consorts' with criminals. This Druuga was well known to him though. I think Druuga wanted to take Madragar to his master, a rival, err 'author' if you will. From what Madragar said, his master 'author' disappeared and Druuga's master was responsible."
He breaks off and says in Maogari "Maybe the duck talks."
Meneloss is feeling pretty nice from the ales he is drinking and offers to get the next round.

Beer, Bowstrings and Ducks
"Maybe that duck ISSSSS Druuga's "master"!" Atan motions with his fingers in emphasis to provide the quotations.

Beer, Bowstrings, Ducks, and more Beer
Meneloss comes back to the group with another round. He raises his mug in toast and a bit too loudly exclaims "to Ducks of Dobrug!" He grins and slurps back a gulp of ale. "Well Ruglan now I sing songs for you:
"Ruglan the Brooslayer
Kills the Broo (it has no prayer)
In Dobrug town he hates the duck
Now he fights with all the luck
Ruglan the Brooslayer
In Dobrug he will be the mayor!"

The bad accent and Meneloss' total lack of singing talent makes for a somewhat painful listening experience. After the song, Meneloss finishes his mug in a great big gulp. He looks around at his companions expectantly and asks "Who gets next round?"

Ruglan smiles. "Well done, well done." "I will get the next round!" Ruglan stands up, gathers all the mugs, and walks over to the ale barrel.

Re: Beer, Bowstrings, Ducks, and more Beer
After Ruglan returns with the third round, Meneloss pours an amount about a sip onto the floor as he says "For people who are gone." Then he looks each of his companions in the eye and downs the entire mug!
He then excuses himself and walks outside the longhouse.
[Meneloss peers about once he is outside for a latrine or pee wall. If nothing is forthcoming, he will walk around the outside of the house until nobody is looking, then he will relieve himself]
Afterwards, Meneloss returns to the Longhouse and gets the next round.

Re: Beer, Bowstrings, Ducks, and more Beer
[There is, in fact, a place to urinate outside the longhouse... a small shed with a wooden seat.]

After nearly half an hour of eating and drinking (Sangraal included, though he is unusually silent) Nrulias returns and motions the group to follow him. He does mention, however, that you are to leave your weapons at the table. A young boy, introduced as Gycus, is set to watch them while you have your audience with Hegi.

A cluster of simple wooden benches lay around the sheepskin covered chair of the matriarch. When Nrulias moves to her side she seems to be sleeping, but raises her head and smiles at the young man. The noise in the room noticibly diminishes as this band of bloodstained warriors approaches what is presumably the spiritual center of the community. All eyes are on the Sangraal, Meneloss, Yimris, Atan and Ruglan as they take their seats before the old woman. In the moments before Hegi speaks the room falls completely silent.

Hegi is frail. Her hands shake uneasily as they clutch a fine wool blanket that lays across her lap. Her silver hair is long and braided in places, hanging down over her shoulders in a shimmering cascade. It is a marked contrast with her face which is tan and wrinkled, the result of many years laboring under the hot sun of Moagara. Her voice is tremulous and while it doesn't seem to cause her pain to speak, the effort of it is obvious.

"Nrulias has told me what he found in the farmhouse. Young Lhevas and his kin taken away from us. Please, tell me how you came to that place."

Re: Beer, Bowstrings, Ducks, and more Beer
Ruglan starts, "We tracked a group of broo from the coast, hoping to stop them before they could cause harm to any villagers." "We were too late, but we made sure they won't be killing any more." "I have only just joined this group, so my companions will have to explain the events leading up to that point."

Recapping the story
"I am Finith Ring of the Imaldean Uin Nral. Yimris and I tracked a Broo warband out of the wild lands a weeks travel from the southwest. They traveled quickly and made true for Madam Grugni's homestead. It was there that Yimris and I met Menelos, Ruglan and Sangraal. We all engaged the warband as they assualted Grugni's under cover of a night storm and killed some of their number. That was last night. This morning we found that the band had departed after searching a ruined tower nearby Grugni's. It seems that the Broo leader was an elk-headed thing and it did not participate in the house assualt. Rather we theorize that it was busy prying about the tower. Supposing that the Broo may be up to greater evil we five pursued the fleeing creatures of chaos. We travelled all day as fast as we could manage. Sometime a few hours before Nrulius found us, the Elk-headed leader abandoned the others. We realized this after some delay and decided to continue after the remaining band, they presenting a more immediate danger to the local settlements. We caught them at sundown and slew the lot. The rest of the story you are familiar with, unless my friends I have forgotten any important details." Atan looks to his friends for confirmation that he left nothing pertinent out.

[?]

Hegi leans back and considers Atan's story. For a moment you all can see her eyes close and her thumb rolling a delicate silver ring around the third finger of her right hand. Then, she smiles.

"Tell me, how is Grugni doing? Is she well?"

Re: Recapping the story
Meneloss answers the venerable lady: "She was fine when we leaved this morning. Her house was busted some, but is ok."
