Re: Start the fire
"Time to get set up then." As he moves towards his position, Atan grabs Yimris by the back of his arm, "A silver per head, loser owes the difference."
As the three Merek Lek settle into their ambush Atan asks Tagra, "Do you want to give the signal for attack? If so we will follow your lead."

Re: Start the fire
[ooc: Meneloss does not stash his pack. With it he is still lightly encumbered, and you never know when a good bit of rope or a flask of oil can come in handy. The bedroll, waterskin, and 2 spikes are removed however (-10 lb)
He also hides +5 up in the rafters peeking out listening and spoting +4.
He is waiting for the broo to come in range of his spells before he does anything.

Re: Start the fire
[OOC: Meneloss I would'nt poke your head out of the roof until the broo attack. They might see the movement if they approach from the south. I say stay away from the windows and openings all together since we want them to think its an easy target and crash in. Then we just hold at the doors.]

Re: Start the fire
Draxim asks Ruig to give him the blessing of Urox (not the spell necessarily, he just wants a few good words said.)
"Sangraal I will do my best to hold the barricade. Don't forget about those fireballs Meneloss."

Fireballs
[Meneloss will keep a look out... He will place his cloak over the opening and peep out a fold. The cloak will be covered with thatch. He hides take 20 +5.]
Meneloss stage whispers "Draxim the only fireballs I have are from Hegi's stew." With that said, he cuts a trumpet of a fart. He snickers uncontrollably for a few moments and then regains his composure.

Re: Fireballs
[Speaking of fireballs....be sure to ready those flasks of oil to drop down on the Broo. That is a good way to hurt a bunch of them quickly. Just don't roll a one.]

Draxim also chortles at his freind's juvenile humor. "Please no more! The broo will think the pig has rotted." The laughter is a welcome relief. He stops and thinks a moment. "What do you mean no fireballs?" he whispers harshly.

Re: Fireballs
Nrulias spins his horse around. "I have to make a pass through the northern farms before the broo arrive. Good luck my friends." The watchmen spurs his horse and gallops away.
Ruig and Draxim kneel down near the west wall of the house and pray. The priest utters a few words in dwarvish and those words are whispered by Draxim in reply. Then rising, they return to their positions.
All is quiet. The sky is still a medium gray. Both rain and sunshine seem unlikely. Madragar and Meneloss peer through their holes in the thatched roof, searching for signs of the broo. Below, the ambushers settle down into their hiding places. There is a light breeze but when that wind falters all can hear even the slightest sound: the merest creaking of a floorboard, the heavy dwarven breathing, the gentle hiss and pop of the roasting pig.
Outside the Merek Lek are kneeling down, deep within the wheat field. [Note: having the help of abundant camouflage and other people skilled in hiding resulted in a signifigant Hide bonus.] Three bows and three notched arrows lay in wait. They cannot see, so the woodsmen concentrate on their hearing, straining their senses to detect even the slightest sound. At one point Atan even whispers that he can hear Ruig breathing. The others snicker and then retreat into silence again.
Finally, Meneloss taps lightly on his rafter. He has sighted the broo, moving in two packs up from the forest. For a time they are merely dark figures in the distance, weaving in and out of the hillocks, ravines and small copses of pine trees. As they come within a few hundred feet of the house, the broo procede slowly, crouched low to the ground. They are clearly armed with a mixture of axes, spears and wicked glaives. In two groups they slip into the wheat field.
Madragar and Meneloss watch as the two packs move toward the house, one from the south, one from the southeast. From their elevated position, the Wizards can see the wheat pushed aside as the broo make their way slowly through the field. Nearly one hundred feet from the house, the pack moving in from the southeast stops. The southern group continues on.
Moments later the broo are at the edge of the wheat field. Madragar and Meneloss can see their thick, furred heads just a few feet from the clearing, their grotesque snouts twitching back and forth. Still, the second pack remains in the wheat field.
Then, without so much as a grunt, seven boarheaded broo break cover and rush the house. Three have long, iron-tipped spears while the rest bear crude axes. Their massive tusks protrude up from slavering, pink mouths. They are naked, clothed only in course brown fur and a few primitive bone fetishes. Two of the broo break for each side of the house, while the remaining three charge straight at the back/southern door. With a final savage roar, the lead creature hurls itself at the door.
The flimsy door not only comes off its hinges but explodes into flinders! The wooden bar breaks uselessly away as thin chunks of old oak are sent flying across the room. The first broo through the door, totally off balance, careens into the barricade and barely regains its footing. The other two are close behind it.
Gentlemen, you have surprise. Initiative order:

The combat map is here:

Re: Fireballs
Atan, Yimris and Tagra can see through up to twenty feet of the wheat field without affecting their aim. Any more and your targets will benefit from some degree of concealment.
Once again, there is no need to wait for everyone before you on the initiative track to take their action, especially in a surprise round like this. You may wait if you want to, though.

Begin with the beginning
Meneloss fires off the quick words :"Ele! Aeglarcalen Arae" pointing down at the first Broo [1a] to burst through the door, he creates a bright flare of light in the boarheaded monster's face.
(target -1 to hit for 10 rounds=1 min, range 25 feet)

Re: Begin with the beginning
The bright flash of light strikes the creature squarely in the face. As before, the spell has a much greater effect on these darkness loving brutes than it normally would. The thing reels against the barricade, its eyes slammed shut from shock and pain.

Re: Begin with the beginning
Ruglan, with his shield held high and the barricade covering his legs, leans around the bundle of furniture and strikes at the blinded broo. The staggering, thrashing creature reels at the just the wrong moment and Ruglan's sword meets nothing but air.

In your face with Goodness
Upon the arrival of the broo Sangraal stands and clasps his hand around the circular bronze sundial around his neck. Calling forth in a clear voice.
"The ire of Yelm will guide the bolt and make true the blade! Fear not the harbors of darkness for Yelm is with us!"

Re: In your face with Goodness
Madragar peers through the gap in the thatched roof at the spear wielding broo right below him and utters a quick incantation. Vazraal Krut!
The bitter broo curse is heard from outside as the thing staggers against the side of the house.

Re: In your face with Goodness
Ruig takes his warhammer in both hands and brings it down on the broo's back as it thrashes about. The creature growls in anger but is far from beaten.
