Re: The Ambush
Ruig doesn't seem very interested in the diagrams. "These defenses are too complex. We'd be lucky if even one of the broo stumble over these... punjis. It would be better if we were all in once place. If we seperate, the swift broo will surround us and cut us down one at a time. Besides, Sangraal and I can heal the wounded, but not if they are on the other side of a broo herd."

Re: The Ambush
"No disrespect intended, Ruig, but you feel that its just best to wait for the Broo to come to us? Im sorry if you feel I am out of line in saying so but thats absurd. We need to take the battle to them in surprise. They out number us by at least 2 to 1 and I am assuming by more. As Draxim has said, we are young, but we are smart. The broo are not. If we set a trap, we can at least slow them down.
I personally dont think they are heading towards Grungi's, I think they are heading back to that tower. As Atan has said, they are moving with determination, which leads me to believe that they are heading somewhere and are not stopping for anything but their ultimate goal."

Re: The Ambush
"Yes, Kezib," Ruig replies. "I believe that an ambush is our best option, but not out in the forest where these beasts are in their element. If they come to burn the farmlands we should wait for them there. They will surely avoid both this walled village and the river, so will likely pass by Werthyn somewhere to the west. Let us draw them to one of the farmsteads and ambush them there. Wooden walls are weak, but better than no walls at all."

Re: The Ambush
"Lets hear your plan Ruig? Only Atan has provided his thoughts" looking around the group "anyone else have any ideas. We dont have much time to hash out anything, but now is the time to get our ideas out and figure out what we are to do, before we lose our oportunity for surprise, and become surprised ourselves"
With that, Kezib hushes and quickly moves to the door, to listen and see if he can hear anything out of the ordinary. Once he is done, he will quickly move back to the group to listen to their plans.

Re: The Ambush
"That is my plan, Kezib," Ruig replies. "Ambush them at a farmhouse."
The dwarf then looks quizically at the monk as he pushes his way through dozens of famished farmers to the longhouse door, listens for... something, then returns.

"Bah, we will be trapped like rats in a crate," grumbles Tagra. "The broo are not so savage that they have no knowledge of fire."

Re: The Ambush
"We need to decide soon, time is working against us. Does everyone agree majority rules? If so, then I see 3 main possiblities:
1. Stay here and guard the village;
2. ambush in the woods;
3. ambush at a farmstead.
I think you all know my choice. What is yours my friends? And please say any fears or concerns?"

Re: The Ambush
Meneloss states: "The farmstead makes the most sense. Dwarves cannot fire and flee like you Merek. Also the priests can heal us if we are together, not flung across the forest like berries. Few of us can manage like you Merek in the woods, we could become seperated and lost then hacked down one by one. We have beaten these creatures in defended holds before, it makes most sense. All of your great ideas of traps, funnels, and pits: can't we make these in the fields surrounding a farmstead? Out traps will require time, and we should make haste in setting them!"
He goes on: "Atan and Yimris, perhaps it is you two who should gaod the Broo towards our trap. Be not like a hare, but rather a maddening bee stinging them with your arrows to enrage them. Then they will follow you to our trap. Kezib alone would perhaps only attract stragglers. Again no offence my friend"
He says to Madragar and Vala: "Vala why don't you stay in Werthyn, or better yet the two of you can make for the safety of Tunlura."

Re: The Ambush
Madragar immediately retorts, "No. I will not flee while these good people need our help. Besides, I would almost pity that bastard Druuga if he came upon us now." The young wizard sweeps an arm across the table, indicating the band of well armed warriors that surround them.
"We can handle these broo, Meneloss. Like I said, I believe our magic may be decisive."

"Perhaps we should set our traps close to the Werthyn gate so that we can be sure to get back to defend it?" IF the broo pass us by, we can hunt them later and we will have filled our obligation to these good people."

"They might, but the tower is far from here, and if they do go to the tower to perform their fell rites of sacrifice to that hideous heap of phlegm and putridity they will find it dead and dessicated as we left it. I do worry about the lady Grugni though..."

Smoke signals
"If we want to ambush them, then the farmhouse would be the best choice in my eyes. If we are worried about them going somewhere else we could always make a nice smokey fire in the fireplace so they can see and smell the smoke for miles, we could even cook a greasy pig. That would also cover the scent of us lurking in the farmhouse. With any luck they will think its just peasents caught unaware. When they kick in the door we let them have it. We could even hide the Merek in the fields nearby to poor missile fire on them from the flank when the broo have committed to attacking the house.
Broo are cunning but undisciplined, offer them what they think will be an easy meal and they'll come strait to us."
[OOC: I will agree to go with whatever the party wants to do. But Sangraal thinks that he has a solid ambush idea so he will stand by it unless a better plan comes along.
*Note to GM*
Also I will be out of town till 1/12. See you all then]

Grugni
Draxim's craggy visage contorts with worry for a time. Finally his small dwarven mind arrives at a decision. He stands and adopts a respectful pose. "Lady Hegi, you spoke with fondness for the noble Lady Grugni earlier. I just realized that she probably doesn't even know that this great horde of rampaging chaos is descending down upon her! Is there any way...I mean with all due respect and such like, can you send one of your bird freinds or something to tell her? Honestly, I would go myself, but I promised to stay and help defend Werthyn and ... " he pitches his voice a little lower and murmers something to Hegi. [GM Note] His face colors a bit.

Re: Grugni
"You are wise and thoughtful, Draxim. I sent a message to Grugni on the wings of a sparrow this morning."
Ruig nods his head as he listens to Sangraal's plan. "A good idea, young man. The beasts would surely be drawn to the smell of roast pig, and it would also show them that the farmhouse was occupied and thus supplied them with fresh prey."

"Do you think that the food would attract them alone? Would they attack if it seemed to be just 1 farmhouse, with one small family? But, I do like the idea. That was a good one. Maybe you did learn some about tactics back home, my friend"

Re: Grugni
"Broo raid..." Tagra answers, "quick an bloody. The pack will attack whataer they can find, movin fast from house ta house, until they are turned away. Sometime they stop an feast, sometime they just burn, but always they kill."
The old woodsman scratches his head and nods. "Is a good plan for pulling them in, but I don like stuck in a house. Hard to shoot."
Then, turning to Atan and Yimris. "I think maybe we wait in the field outside the house. The wheat is high, so we hide easy. Fire low an they not even know where the arrows come from."

Re: Grugni
Draxim looks greatly relieved on hearing that Grugni has been informed at least.
"Tagra has a point. we should have some outside and some inside. I am pretty good at hiding and shooting, and I'm also short enough to stay below the wheat so I will stay outside as well. We should pick a farmstead with a back door. We should also have some of the pungent sticks that you were talking about earlier. To bad we probably don't have time to build a pit trap eh?"
[Do we?]
"Tagra, you know about Broo raids, Do you think the whole pack would attack a farm like that or just some of them?"
"Hey I know! When the Broo go into the farmhouse, Madragar and Menloss can shoot fireballs into it and burn them up! We wouldn't even have to waste arrows!" He looks to Meneloss and earnestly asks, "you can do that right?"

Re: Grugni
"The pack will always stay together at first," Tagra explains. "If they think they are safe they will split. We pick the right house an we get them all."
Hegi clears her throat. "The house you choose will almost certainly be damaged if not destroyed by this battle. We can rebuild a house, but perhaps you could take some men with you to remove anything of value before the broo arrive."
