Forgery
[We didn't go to the forge... It was more of a 'hey we should do that sometime']
Meneloss' fair skin becomes flushed red when he sees Kezib. He looks sheepishly at his feet. He makes a bow and says "I am sorry Kezib for making fun at your expense. You are my comrade, please forgivve me." He offers his hand to the monk....

Re: Forgery
Kezib accepts Meneloss's hand and says "There is no need for apologies. If we are unable to make fun of each other, once in a while, then we should not be able to laugh at all. Once in a state of meditation I am able to clear my mind and soul. I was aware of your pressence, but I knew you posed no threat." Smiling at Meneloss, Kezib adds laughing "One day your turn will come"

Please Explain
Atan sits back down next to Yimris and adjusts the seat so that he is comfortable. Looking over to Hegi he decides that the villagers have been patient enough with our antics and breaks into the story of fight. His voice is just loud enough for Hegi and those in her immediate vicinty to hear. He recounts the story with detail, and stops to answer any question that Hegi or her charges have before continuing. At the end, Atan leans back and quenchs his story driven thirst with a long drink before asking his own questions.
"Hegi, when we returned this afternoon you said to Ruig that Elk-head had a name and that we would encounter him again. What is it's name and how is it that you are familiar with this creature? Has it raided this area before?"

Re: Please Explain
Hegi rises and walks over to where Atan and the others are seated. None of them have seen this kind of movement from her before, and she seems much more spry and energetic than earlier in the afternoon. Even Nrulias seems a little surprised.
Reaching the table, Hegi sits down on the long wooden bench and leans heavily on the table. She breathes deeply, smiling with some hidden satisfaction, and motions for one of the farmhands to fetch her an ale.
"I haven't had one of these for some time," she murmurs while regarding the frothy beverage. She takes a sip, sets the mug on the table, and regards Atan.
"Yes, the elk head. I know something of him." She pauses then, seeming to search for the right words. "There are other things in the forest besides the broo, of course. The Wild Lands are full of life. You spoke of the Old Man, Koraeus, but there are also human tribes in the deep forest, and elves as well. The beasts of Chaos are only one part of the vast wilderness, though they hate all others... make war on them. I have learned much from these creatures, for we have common enemies."
Hegi takes another sip and continues.
"The elk head is part of a large tribe of broo, no one knows their number. They are the Jangui, and come from the far south... some say a dark empire of some sort, but they are naught but slaves to Chaos. Among the Jangui the elk head is called Ghulku the Dark Eye. He is a hunter, and has been strong in his tribe for many years."
Hegi pauses again, but this time to nod to those few farmers still lingering inside. They recognize the signal and make for the exit, giving Hegi and her audience a degree of privacy. Once the commoners are out of earshot Hegi continues, her voice carrying more than a hint of malice as if the words themselves were laced with evil.
"The Jangui in their lust for prey have come to worship a dark god, some bloody aspect of Chaos. I do not know its name, but the broo kill for it, and make many sacrifices in its name. This is how Ghulku gained his strength. There was a ceremony and many sacrifices, and a deadly ritual which the Dark Eye had to endure. But he lived, as you have seen, and emerged larger, stronger and more intelligent than his brethren. Ghulku is a child of Chaos now, and is a leader of the Jangui."

Re: Please Explain
"Why would Ghulku come here twice in just about as many days? I find it strange that after one unsuccessful raid he returns directly with a larger band. And after watching him most of last week I can say that he seeks something and has arcane powers that guide his movements to this desire. First he went directly to Grugni's. We all believed something in the tower is what drew him. Now he comes with a larger force and instead of travelling to Grugni's, which we would expect if the tower was his objective, he ran straight back to us." Atans hand motions indicate his companions.
"Something does not add up. He wants something and I am wondering if we are somehow inadvertantly linked to it."

"Could that ritual have something to do with that great steaming and festering pile of ooze that we destroyed under the tower? Maybe those barreled corpses were those that tried the ritual and failed?" He then whispers to Madragar "Ask her about the writing."

Re: Please Explain
Madragar nods at Draxim's urging, though inwardly he doubts that even this wise woman has knowledge of the ancient lunar runes.
As he leans forward into the light, motes of dust caught in the wake of his passage seem to glisten and glitter golden about his serious face.
"In the small village we last left, Ghulku and his followers seemed very interested in an old shrine of Chaos that had been interdicted by the Lunars. We were unable to determine what their interest was, but we located some runes which defied all our attempts to decipher them. Does any of this fit into what you know of this broo war leader?"

Re: Please Explain
Hegi shakes her head.
"The children of Chaos are strange and have many languages. The inscriptions you speak of could be anything, though I am certain they had an evil purpose. There are those in Thasvara who may know, but like that snake in Tunlura, Brother Chark, the Lunar priests are not to be trusted."
"I believe you are right, Atan. There is some purpose to these raids, and Ghulku surely answers to some greater evil... a Shadow perhaps. Only a Shadow could gather so many broo that they would march against Koraeus on his own mountain. And what has become of him? The forest knows nothing of his fate, so I fear Koraeus has fallen."
Hegi is quiet for a moment and sits in deep concentration. Lines of worry carve deep shadows in her aged face.
"The Merek Lek scattered, Edrigan and Koraeus gone, the broo infesting the fortress of Old Kurlew. I fear for us all, my children. It will be a hard winter."

Re: Please Explain
Atan seats back in his seat obviously thinking hard on hegi's words. "A shadow. Hmm."
After a few momments of silence he sits forward again, both elbows to his knees, "Difficult winter days do seem to be ahead. With Old Kurlew taken and the protectors of the wilds slain or driven off, these assualts by creatures of Chaos will certainly intensify. This dark tide must be stopped. But what can we do?"
Atan takes a sip of ale and turns towards his Humakt worshipping companion. Smacking Yimris' knee with the back of his free hand, "We should find Ghulku and slay him. That would be a satisfying start."

War Council
Madragar considers Atan's words, but shakes his head.
"Atan, the hearts of the elves are brave. But in your haste for vengeance, do not forget to sharpen the greatest weapon you have in this fight - your mind. Consider what Hegi has said: three great pillars of free Moagara have been shattered, one after the other. An unseen hand is at work here, and will surely work further."
"Mere slaughter proves nothing, and solves nothing. If you would prove yourself against Ghulku Elk-head, you must not only outfight him, you must outthink him. Him and the hand that moves behind him."
"If Chaos seeks to overthrow Moagara, there are other forces to be reckoned with. Pick the right one, and you may gain the advantage on the broo. I know of one such - Lyssa of the Skytower. She might be the next target. At least, she might be able to offer us some advice. Either way, the road to the Skytower may lead us back to Ghulku."

Re: War Council
Meneloss considers the ominous implications of a greater conspiracy. He knows now he must share the events which had sundered him from his folk and brought him to the present. He speaks with careful diction though his accent is still thick: "I am from the Haven of Sanaveysil which is no more. The Spring before last, when the last icy frosts gave way to Chalana's rebirth they came. Our scouts did not espie them until it was too late. Our beguilements did not fool them. And most terrible, our arms could not defeat them. A host of Broo destroyed my people and killed my Master Eol. This I saw with my own eyes. Eol was mighty and wise, it was many of his charms which protected the haven and the surround. I now know they came not just for spoil and to drive us from our ancestral lands. They must have come to slay Eol. There were cries of treason among the defenders that terrible day. I had never considered it, thinking it merely the panic of those set upon. But now I am not sure." He takes a pull from his mug and looks to Madragar. "Your master is gone as well." He turns to Atan, "There was a wizard of renown who aided the Merek was there not? Has he not also disappeared? There is more to this than coincidence." He unconsciously rubs the great scar which runs from his brow to chin as he appears to be in deep thought. "Madragar, I agree we must see this Lyssa of the Skytower. She may hold some clues to this dark and terrible riddle. But first tell us more of this Enchantress."

Re: War Council
"A puissant sorceress is she," begins the young mage, "and a woman of no inconsiderable charms in her own right. She was...companion...to my master, and oft times the two consulted one with the other upon matters arcane and eldritch beyond my understanding."
Nodding to his own beloved, he continues "Vala may remember this also, for I think the two met once or twice - the Lady of the Stormtower was greatly learned in the arts of illusion, and it oft appeared as though she would change subtly between glances, her lashes a breadth longer or her hair a hue more fitting to the room in which she found herself."
"For all that the Lady and my master agreed upon, they were unalike in many ways. Where he was straightforward, a warrior among wizards, a lion at heart, so she was indirect and subtle. Still, she is far-sighted and no friend of Chaos. If only we could locate her, she might tell us where the weakness of Ghulku and his brood lies."
"Alas," finishes Madragar, leaning upon his staff, "I know not the place of her dwelling, nor even if the 'Skytower' exists as a real place."

Re: War Council
Meneloss looks to Madaragar with puzzlement. "This is indeed a strange quest. We are to find a woman who can change her appearance at will. We have no idea where her Skytower is or if it even exists. Yet she may bear knowlegde of this threat to all of Moagara. What in the four winds of Orlanth are we to do?" He turns to each of the three Clerics and asks: "Ruig and Sangraal you had dreams and visions which guided you before. Hegi you speak to the forests. The Giver of Life leads you on paths of Wisdom. What of Yelm and the Lightbringers? Do they speak to you now?"

Re: War Council
Atan looks incredulous. "That's using your mind? Look for something you don't know if it even exists?" Atan sits back in his chair, arms crossed, "Ghulku is at least tangible and a known threat. Killing him can only help."

Re: War Council
Ruig has been patiently listen to the others share information and theories. At Meneloss' urging he speaks.
"Friends, even the Wise may not know the end of all things, or how they began. What destiny holds for us now is for anyone to guess. Each must follow his heart in the days to come and walk the path he has chosen. There is much unknown to us, and clearly much to be known. It is also clear that the spawn of Chaos are on the rise and it will take more than a keen eye and swift arrow to stem that tide."
Ruig takes a deep breath, displaying an uncharacteristic bit of awkwardness when he says "Tomorrow I make for Raven's Gate. The Ghurugil must know what I have learned these past few days, and I must be there when they decide how they will act. I wish it weren't necessary, for the lands between Tunlura and Dobrug will be rife with broo through the winter, and there is hard work ahead. Yet I must, though I hope to return."
