Re: Back In The Village
"I shall go with you," replies Madragar to Ruig, "at least so far as Tunlura, for I must place Vala beyond harm's reach."

[At least, I think he says this - I need to look at a map!]

Turning to Atan, Madragar says "I disagree, master Elf. It is never time wasted to seek out knowledge of your foe. Ghulku is strong, even now, and likely has allies in the wild. He will lead you into a trap, and we will be without your strong and sorely-needed sword arm."

"You would be wise to consider our foe's goals and use them to lay a trap for him instead."

Re: Back In The Village
Ruig nods.

"Very well. I leave in the morning to seek a boat up the river. The sooner I am to Raven's Gate the better for all, I believe."

At the back of the longhouse, from the curtain behind which Hegi seems to keep her quarters, emerges young Khras with a small coffer. Making eye contact with Hegi, he nods. She motions him over and Khras sets it down before her. Opening it and inspecting the contents, she whispers "very good, Khras."

The unkempt youth nods again and pulls from the coffer a number of small leather bags. He moves around the table as the conversation continues and places a single bag before each of the companions. Those not debating the virtues of their individual plans are the first to notice and inspect the deerskin containers.

"This is a small token of our thanks, young friends," Hegi intones with a warm smile. "We have little wealth, but the harvest is upon us and we have a bit left in our coffers from the year past. Please, accept this not as payment for your service, but a gift between foes of the Enemy and his degenerate servants. Use it well."

Each bag contains a few coins, 6 gold Lunars and 15 silver Heads, to be exact. Interestingly enough, the silver coins bear the likeness of the last Imperial Legate of Thasvara, Rul Yadva II. Almost all silver coins were melted down and recast after the Empire evacuated Moagara, but for some reason these coins remained intact. Hmmm...

Re: Back In The Village
Draxim attempts to enlist Meneloss's help with the forge. "I want to finish it before he leaves in the morning" he whispers. Craft Jewellry +6 to finish the silver ring into a penandular broach with hammers as the terminals.

Re: Back In The Village
[Meneloss will help Draxim (Craft Jewlrey +4) just as soon as the War Council is concluded]

"Madragar, " Meneloss begins, "After you have brought Vala to Tunlura, what are your plans? Do you have any idea how to contact Lyssa of the Skytower? I agree with Atan that The Dark-Eye must be slain. At the very least we must investigate Old Kerlew and see if Koraeus still lives. I will run with the Merek." He continues in Elven to Atan and Yimris: "The Dark-Eye will feel the swift arrows from the Chldren of Viv. He has undoubtedly met with more of his ilk, and even now plots more evil." He breaks off Elven and looks the rest of the company in the eye one by one. "What do each of you intend to do? It seems we are sundered once again."

Meneloss accepts the gift from Hegi with gracious apprecitation. "Wise one, many thanks to you and your people for their generosity. This currency will help me to continue my struggle agains the minions of chaos. May the light of Yelm the Creator shine upon your house."

Re: Back In The Village
Madragar does ponder the source of the old coins, but coming to no easy conclusion, he lays the matter aside amidst weightier burdens of the mind.

"My thanks also, Lady Hegi. This is a princely sum for such work."

To Meneloss he replies "I know not, friend, and in my heart I feel you are right. The noble Koraeus deserves a monument at least, or succor if such is possible. But I must hope to catch up with you as Fate wills it. Perhaps I will come with word of Lyssa's dwelling place."

Decisions, Decisions
"You are correct Madragar, Ghulku is not dull of mind and he would certainly try and return us an ambush if we let him. He has a good head start and he is very fast. I don't think we could catch him even if we didn't have the dwarves." Atan turns, looking at Ruig and Draxim "No offense."

"Elk-head would know the direction we would come if we tracked him and it would be very easy for him to preposition a large raiding party for us. So, how about this? If investigating Old Kurlew is what we think we should do then we can still help Madragar and Ruig with out adding more then a day, day and a half. Tunlura is but a morning walk from here. Nothing we all can't make and it would be wiser to have protection for lady Vala with things they way they are. Or, if we wish, we can all take Vala to Ravens Gate with Ruig, a solid two day walk. Old Kurlew is a little less then a days walk West as the crow flies from Ravens Gate. In Ravens Gate we can buy some more provisions and items we may need for the season is turning brisk."

Re: Decisions, Decisions
"None taken," Ruig replies. "Raven's Gate wouldn't be a bad place to hide, m'lady. The Ghurugil have our lodge there and you would enjoy both their protection and their hospitality. That place is not quite so... cosmopolitan as the northern cities, but there's no place safer in all Moagara. If this Druuga beast came looking for you in that fortress he would meet a swift and messy end, I assure you."

Vala doesn't say anything as she considers the alternatives. Then, looking at Madragar, she says "I am not so concerned about myself, Ruig. Druuga hunts for Madragar more than for me. But it is a gracious offer." Her eyes hold many questions for the young wizard beside her, and it is clear she still depends on Madragar for guidance. She whispers, "what do you think?"

Re: Decisions, Decisions
"Master Ruig, at Tunlura there are river boats which can take us to Raven's Gate? A boat would make for a more comfortable journey, and safer too. Chaos hates Orlanth and his rivers much." adds Meneloss.

He goes on to Hegi: "In the high brush near the farmstead where we battled our foe, there is a trove of weapons. Aye they are Broo weapons, but they can be turned upon their former masters in the stout hands of the Werthyn. Will your folk use them? Or perhaps there may be buyers in Tunlura. If naught else, you may as they say, 'beat them to plowshares'. In any case they are yours."

It would seem for now that the group will stay together a few days more. Meneloss rises excusing himself to find Draxim and the forge. "My pardons, but master Draxim will need help with the bellows, and I wish to see his Dwarven craftsmanship first hand."
He parts with two mugs full of ale "'Tis thirsty work!" he calls out as he leaves the great hall.

Re: Decisions, Decisions
Draxim is dumbfounded by the gift of Hegi. "Thank you my lady, knowing you has cemented my faith in my current path. Without these good folk, I would still be a pop...uh prop uh someone who creates chaos rather than fighting it."

Later, Draxim looks Meneloss in the eye and says, "I'm coming with you. Ya can't get rid of me that easy!"

Re: Decisions, Decisions
"Good idea Meneloss." Atan raises his mug in salute and takes a drink. "A boat would get us there much quicker and safer. Not sure what the cost would be, but probably not much I would think."

Re: Decisions, Decisions
Ruig scratches his head and grimaces. He thought for sure he mentioned seeking a boat to take him up-river.

"You may gather the broo weapons, Meneloss, but it might be difficult to find a buyer. Even the poorest human tool is superior to what the beasts of the wilderness produce."

Re: Decisions, Decisions
[Aren't Meneloss and Draxim at the forge, getting a fire started?]

Before Meneloss departs, he answerd Ruig. "Yes master Dwarf, it was you who mentioned travelling to Raven's Gate by the River. That is why I suggested to the rest we follow your example." He switches to Elven: "Sheesh!" Continuing about the Broo axes, spears and glaives Meneloss says "Surely the metal alone has some worth. The metal could be fashioned into farming tools. In the very least, they could be buried with Tagra. In Sanaveysil, a fallen warrior was burned with his foes weapons lain at his feet. They may not be worth much, but they still killed one of our own and spilled much of our blood. I would considre them a worth trophy for our lost comrade."

Ok now Meneloss REALLY leaves to start the fire in the forge with Draxim

Re: Decisions, Decisions
[Is it also a tradition in Sanaveysil to ask a question then leave the room before it can be answered?]

Hegi shakes her head as Meneloss leaves the longhouse. "We will not be burying weapons with the dead. The metals will simply pollute the earth when they could be useful to those still living."

Coinage
As the conversation seems to slow down with the subject of where to go next decided, Sangraal makes his way towards the chest to withdraw his share as Draxim and Meneloss both get up to leave clearing room for him at the table.
"Lady Hegi, first let me thank you for your kind gift." Gingerly removing a silvercoin from the smooth deerskin ponch, he holds it up in the firelight of the hall.
" I know nothing of coins, but if I am correct these heads are from just before the withdrawl of the Empire from these lands. How is it that this small town comes to possess such coinage?"

Re: Coinage
Hegi smiles to Sangraal and leans back, sipping her ale.

"Do not trouble yourself, young acolyte. I can remember clearly the departure of the legions, and have been the guardian of this village for even longer than that. There was a time when the Raven legion had a cohort quartered just a few miles from here, and it was they that built our pallisade. What little entertainment we could provide the legionaires paid for in this very coin."

Re: Decisions, Decisions
Madragar inclines toward Vala and replies, "I think that when Druuga, or the Gorgon's other minions, discover that I am in company less easy to assail, they may remember you, and seek to use you against me. If in Raven's Gate we may look forward to the protection of friends, then the choice seems clear enough to me. Will you travel there, and wait for me?"

While working at the forge, Draxim will use his abilities to see if he can determine the age of the coins.

[Edit: Which would involve reading the date on the lunars heh heh. guess I should read before posting a little more often.]

Meanwhile back at the forge...
Meneloss looks about the small forge. He says to Draxim "I'm sure we both have toiled in better hearths." He gathers firewood and gets the fire burning. He takes off his woolen tunic and throws on a dusty apron hanging on the door. Once the blaze is set, Meneloss and Draxim take turns on the bellows. "So my friend, lets make that pin for Ruig."
Meneloss is an observant and somewhat skilled worker. The simple act of working in the forge and the cooperation with a more learned artisan cheers Meneloss greatly.

Re: Decisions, Decisions
Satisfied, Madragar nods and pats Vala's hand. To Ruig and the others, he announces "Then we will go with you to Raven's Gate, master Ruig. And perhaps then we should consider Old Kurlew."
