Barftastic
Sangraal making sure he is in an area of fresh air, takes three deep breaths. Pursing his mouth, his jaw muscles tighten before taking off at a full gate attempting to cross the platform and the stench cloud.
[OOC: Sangraal will attempt to hold his breath and run accross.]

Re: Barftastic
Meneloss follows the Cleric of Yelm. [Top priority now is crossing the field, once we get away from the stench, we can organize ourselves]

Re: Barftastic
The group hurries across the ledge, cluttered with the detritus of battle. Many try to keep their eyes on the gaping hole in the mountain ahead, rather than see the tortured faces of the dead beneath their feet.
Though desperate not to breathe in any more of the fetid air, it is simply impossible to run three or four hundred feet across broken, corpse littered ground with a single breath. The thick, woolen scarves help to mask the toxic stench but heavy breathing pulls gouts of the rotting vapors into their lungs and many are coughing with sickness before the group reaches the massive stone doors.
The doorway itself is recessed thirty feet or so into the mountain side and is incredibly large. The two open doors, standing at least sixty feet high, are simple slabs of stone set into the mountain on massive iron hinges. There are no corpses near the entrance, but an enormous swathe of dried blood and evidence that something large was dragged through it. Also near the doorway is what looks like a mighty ship's mast, though it has thick ropes tied around one end. The other end is broken and splintered. It isn't hard to imagine that this was Koraeus' giant spear and that the head has been shorn off and carried away. It appears that this doorway was where the giant made his last stand.
Beyond the doors is a wide corridor. It is pitch dark inside the mountain, though Ruig and Draxim can see that the passage makes a sharp right about fifty feet in and descends in a wide staircase.

Azeed ! Light!
Sangraal stumbles into the cavernous hall coughing violently. Steading himself in the darkness he fumbles for the cold iron bands on the head of his flail. Grasping it tightly he invokes the essence of the Sun god.
" Yelm I beseech thee to bestow upon this vessel your guidence, let those who walk with you, walk in the light of day and cast forth the bane of the skulker.
[Light: 10 min per level on flail head]

Instinctively, when Sangraal lights his flail, will drop to a defensive position, and try to move up against a wall.

Follow the bouncing dog
Yimris, being no ones fool, immediately follows the monk's example and trys to find the best cover that he can. He then hisses, "By Yelm's grace, may Humakt's gaze pass you by."

Skulkers!
"Bah! Light seems to drive some to shadows. Fear not friends for my faith is my shield." Sangraal surveys the cavern holding his flail like a swinging latern while waiting to form up on Ruglan.
Drawing on his inner fire Sangraal reaches out grasping for any traces of Chaos's foul taint hiding in the darkness. Speculating that the decay behind him will interfere Sangraal patiently waits. Testing the air here, then moveing right for two steps and testing again, attempting to seperate the putrid rot from the scent of chaos.

Lightbringers
Meneloss looks at the illuminated Yelm priest and proclaims "We are like unto the Lightbringers. It is by Yelm's grace will shall avoid Humakt's unlovely gaze. Only Draxim and Ruig can see where there is no light. We will need even more light than Sangraal's glow if we are to see this to the end."
He looks up at the ceiling and down the staircase, his eye's straining in the murky darkness beyond Sangraal's light spell. (SPot +7)

Light and Light Sources
[Just so we're all clear:
Humans cannot see in the dark. Their vision is limited to the whatever light source is in the vicinity.
Elves can see twice as far as humans in low light conditions. So, a torch that illuminates a 20 foot radius, illuminates a 40 foot radius for elves.
Dwarves can see 60 feet, though in complete darkness their vision is limited to black and white.
Torches illuminate a 20 foot radius and last 1 hour.
Lanterns illuminate a 30 foot radius and last 6 hours (1 pint of oil).]

Re: Lightbringers
Meneloss looks up, but even with his superior vision cannot see the ceiling of the massive hallway. The sheer walls are cut from the stone of the mountain itself and undulate with protruding, sharply angled columns. High above, the beginnings of a great, vaulted ceiling can be seen but the apex of the arch is lost in deep shadow.
Creeping forward, the descending stairway plunges into darkness. It is similar to the set of stairs that ascended the mountain side: thirty foot wide risers, each at least eight feet high. Meneloss is relieved to see that a staircase suitable for smaller creatures (like humans, elves and dwarves) has been provided on the eastern edge of the larger stairs.
Sangraal concentrates on his surrounding, searching for signs of Chaos to no avail.

Re: Light and Light Sources
Draxim pulls out one of his many torches and prepares against the time when the essence of Yelm that has been visited upon Sangraal's flail should wane.
"Don't worry tall ones, we dwarves come prepared eh Ruig? Shall we?" He continues conferring with Ruig in dwarven for a moment.
He looks for any recent signs of architectural activities as well along the stairs and walls. [Search +3 (stone based)]

Re: Light and Light Sources
[How far does Sangraals light spell illuminate?]
Atan stares down into the dark stariway. "so should we proceed as planned? Yimris and I follwed by Draxim and the rest of the party. Meneloss watching our back."
Atan movesover to the human-sized stars and begins to descend.
[Atan is going to move 60 feet ahead as stealthily as possible. He wil use all his sense to try find anything our of the ordinary.

Re: Light and Light Sources
[Sangraal's Light spell has the same illumination as a torch: 20 ft.]
[Does Atan have a light source of his own? If not he can't see a damn thing.]

Re: Light and Light Sources
[Atan, it seems fruitless to try to 'stealth' our way through. You need to be able to see to be an effective scout. At any rate, Our party is loud and has to have light. Lets go back to the more managable marching order. Keep everyone close so we can support one another. If you wish to travel 30' ahead of the group go ahead but it won't necessarily help IMHO. Plus if you carry a rorch then you are not being to stealthy so why put yourself at extra risk by being isolated?]
Meneloss asks Draxim for a torch "Draxim my friend, you are wise to bring these torches. May I bear one?" He says to Ruig "Now would be a good time to fire up your lantern. Lets bring the light of Yelm to this dark place."

Re: Light and Light Sources
[Yes, it seems the 5 year-old kid who evaluates all my plans for stupidity has dropped the ball (again). The normal marching order is now in effect. So Atan will fall into place behind Ruglan.]

Re: Light and Light Sources
[The last time I checked the marching order was:
Atan
Yimris
Draxim
Ruglan
Sangraal
Ruig
Madragar
Kezib
Meneloss
Yes? No? If yes, then either Atan or Yimris are going to need a light source to lead the way.]

Re: Light and Light Sources
[That order is fine by me lets just stick a little closer together than having Atan 60' ahead, unless he reeeeeaaaaaaally wants to
but It is my understanding we are going back to the order with Ruglan on point. Feel free to chime in with ideas/opinions anyone...anyone...Beuler? ]
- Ruglan (holds lantern)
- Atan
- Draxim
- Yimris
- Sangraal (Light spell)
- Ruig
- Madragar
- Kezib
- Meneloss (holds torch)
