Re: What a view
"Well then, what do you all think? We need the wood for ladders and the shelter from the wind and spying eyes from above would be nice. It would also give me time to tend better to Ruglan and Atans wounds. What do you say?"
Sangraal looks to the party for a general consensus .

Re: Old Kurlew
"To hide from prying eyes, at this position, I feel is virtually impossible. Yet, I do agree with some type of shelter to block the wind" Kezib says, pulling the cloak tighter around himself. "It also, would prove benificial to grant both Atan, and Ruglan a chance rest from their tender moment together" Kezib finishes with a smirk, couldnt resist the childish poke at them both.

Re: Old Kurlew
Meneloss looks about their surroundings in the midst of the pines and says to Kezib "You are wrong my bald friend, we can hide here in these trees." He goes over to his Elven friends and confers briefly with them in Elven "Brothers, lets make a decent camp for the night. We could probably risk a fire after dark if we make it low and build up some stones around it. "
Meneloss will use his hide skill to build a firepit which, with a small fire, would not emit too much light. When he is through with that, and before dark, he will look about for trees suitable for ladderdom.
Those trees which meet his approval, Meneloss will cut a few low branches to make a bower upon which to sleep tonight.

Re: Old Kurlew
Kildeer and Harek have no objections to staying among the pines. Before Meneloss digs his pit, Kildeer moves the group south a few hundred feet, and about fifty feet from the cliff. There he shows them a wide boulder about eight feet high.
"This will hide us from anyone moving along the mountains. We'll just have to keep a watch on the north and south."
After everyone's equipment is organized against the rock, Kildeer begins to pull up big handfuls of the tall biege grass that grows thick through the pine forest. He then produces some twine and begins lashing the grasses to his legs, arms and torso.
"We need to scout the perimeter of the woods. If you want to come along..." Kildeer lets the implication trail off as he looks at Atan and Yimris. The deep greens and greys of their forest cloaks are not ideal camoflague for this environment.

KOA
"Here looks good and it fulfils a number of needs." Atan unslings his pack and looks for a place to sit. "I would be careful with the fire. This close to the top, the smell of smoke will be our give away rather then the light. It may rise up to any who may be looking. I think another cold night would be safest. We will not be happy but in these outfits we will not die either."
Hearing Kildeer's offer, Atan suddenly seems much better. "Sure, Kildeer. Give me but a moment and I will be ready."
Taking the grass and local brush he quickly makes some rudimentary camoflague. He places clumbs of grass into the wool of his cap as well as his grey cloak and coat. ing up his bow and quiver he falls in next to Kildeer once he is ready.

Scouting
Yimris does a 360 scan of the surrounding area to decide if his gray clothes would be good enough to blend in around here. Since it looks like they aren't he rubs dirt into his cloak to try to get closer to the right colors. He then moves his sword belt so it's in an over the shoulder draw to avoid catching the hilt on any branches, and so the edge of the cloak can hide any glint of metal from the hilt.
When he is ready he looks over at Atan and nods.

Madragar follows Meneloss' example and tries to create a comfortable camp. He has no interest in following the example of the other elves and covering himself in dirt.
"Funny," he thinks, "I had always heard that elves were clean...not to mention handsome. I suppose someone should have told them."

Recon
Atan is feeling "woozy" so Yimris and Kildeer creep away from the crude encampment to survey the land. Once they near the the western edge of the pine forest both elf and dwarf get down on their bellies and crawl through the tall grasses.
Beyond the relative safety of the treeline the rocky ground rises in a parabolic slope, reaching vertical more than a mile from their position, and is surmounted by an enormous wall of stone several hundred feet high. The mountain ridge runs north-south with Old Kurlew at its northern most extreme. There is almost nothing on the rocky slopes other than a few patches of scrub grass and a scattered boulder. Old Kurlew itself is nearly two miles to the northwest across open ground.
Immediately, both Yimris and Kildeer notice something entirely out of place. A pair of tracks, running parallel like the course of some enormous wagon, lead from the slopes of Old Kurlew, down around the eastern side of the ridge, and disappear over a series of rock strewn ridges to the south. If it was a wagon that made those tracks, however, it would have been gigantic - the ruts are nearly twenty feet apart.
Kildeer is anxious to further investigate the tracks, but decides that it would be safer after nightfall. He and Yimris complete a search of the perimeter before returning to camp to relate what they've seen.

Bedding down at camp
As the scouts move off Sangraal sets up his bedroll close to the boulder to protect him from the wind. He again stuffs his bedroll with his wool blanket before sitting down to look over his own cuts and scapes. Looking over Ruglan, he is confident that the watchman made it through the fall without suffering permenent injury.
Atans quick return to camp as Yimris and the Grugilil confirms Sangraal suspection that Atan was more hurt by the fall then he was letting on to the others.
"Atan how do you feel?" he inquires.
Sangraal removes his helmet and unbucles his armor before moving over to inspect the wounded elf. Chanting softly Sangraal begins the Orison Convalesce.

Re: Recon
Kezib will look around at the trees, checking to see if they are full of foliage. Trying to assess if using a tree, if it could hold his weight, would be a good spot to post a watch. While looking around, Kezib will remove his pack near Sangraal, but far enough to remain out of his sleeping area.

"Harek, how do you think the weather will hold?" asks a concerned Draxim. "Also, should we start making a ladder now?" He has set up his bedroll, wolfed down some cheese sandwiches, and is now feeling useless.

Re: Bedding down at camp
Meneloss having settled his sleeping area, suggests politely to Draxim "Rest now while we can. Tomorrow will be upon us soon enough. The noise from felling these fine trees and the banging of nails into wood will be loud. Lets sleep well tonight and in the morning announce ourselves with the industry of Dwarven carpentry!"
He breaks out his needle and thread. By the deepening twilight, he sews designs of interwoven mountain peaks and proud pine trees on his cloak. While he works, he hums an old tune from his childhood in the Valley of the Sanaveysil. The words, which he has mostly forgotten and hence the humming, are about an evil Ice Giant who had a fair elven maid captive and a brave young hero who died trying to rescue her.

Sangraal at dusk moves to an outcroping of rock where he can perform the rituals of DaysEnd. Sangraal watches peacefully as the sun dips below the horizon.
Meandering through the maze of bedrolls Sangraals face is set like stone.
"In the morn the night shall find its bane. A saying in the brotherhood, a fine saying...."

Re: Bedding down at camp
Atan initially intending to go with Kildeer and Yimris but shortly after starting, turned back. Although his wound did not seem serious he recognized that his balance hadn't quite fully returned. Returning to camp sullen, he seeks out Sangraal for medical attention.
A short while there after Atan feels much better for the wear and eagerly awaits the return of the scouting expedition.
Spying the monk testing the pine boughs, "I wouldn't climb those. This is the only copse of tress this high up the mountain and thus it stands out against the background. Anyone looking would see a man climbing the limbs. It appears we have been lucky so far, but let us not be any more conspicuous then we need to be. Besides, I have seen you climb."

"At least the good brother climbs better than the Ruglan the Great Bull! From now on I think we must call you Atan Bull Catcher!"
Somewhere along the journey, Draxim has found a lump of soapstone, and has begun carving it (more or less quietly). He seems to have some purpose in mind, but examining the furrowed and hacked amorphous lump of mineral betrays no hint of his intent.
"I am still antsy. I can take first watch. Unless you would like me to go with you to investigate the furrows Kildeer? I may not be fast of foot, but I can be mousy quiet if I've a mind to."

Re: Bedding down at camp
Smirking at the ribbing Draxim gave Atan, Kezib turns a bit more serious.
"Perhaps your right, climbing this tree might be more of a problem than its worth. I was thinking that it might be better, since we are closer Old Kurlew, that the watch might prove better, if it was conceled, rather than in the open. They might have archers."

Re: Bedding down at camp
Madragar is sore and tired, and so sits with his back to the trunk of a tree, listening to the banter of the others. He amuses himself by causing his bedroll to arrange itself and by causing stones to silently glide through the air, whirl about each other and then arrange themselves in a circle for a fire pit.
Kyethe the raven perches in trees overhead, searching for insects and mice and keeping the occasional eye out for the approach of strangers.

Re: Bedding down at camp
Kildeer quickly finds two straight pine trees (none of them are more than twelve or so feet tall) and produces a small hand saw. The dwarf removes the lower branches with a wickedly sharp hatchet. Then, taking his time, he slowly begins cutting the trees down.
"You can come along tonight," he tells Draxim. "I don't expect we'll find much."
Harek and Ruig have walked a short distance away from the group and are engaged in a serious conversation in their native tongue.
Kyethe hops from branch to branch with increasing agitation.
"I smell carrion," the bird hisses.
