Old Kurlew, Part II
Meneloss and Kezib put their shoulders into the door, giving it a good shove before they step back to regain their balance, ready for whatever is on the other side.

Torchlight spills through the steadily widening crack between the door and the corner of the tunnel. A strong, commanding voice from somewhere beyond the door asks something in a strange tongue. A low, grumbling voice answers in the same language.

[Note to those that can understand it.]

Immediately beyond the door, just to the right of the opening, the wooden slats of a ladder can be seen. About fifteen feet up the wall the thick legs and stocky frame of a dwarf stand on the upper rungs of the ladder. He is old and wearing well worn leather armor. From within the tangled mass of his grey beard the dwarf gapes at the gleaming steel, loaded crossbows and cold eyes that have suddenly appeared below him.

There is a hallway to the north of the door which opens up into a large, torch-lit room to the east.

[Surprise round. Everyone can take a single partial action: shoot, move, attack, but not move and attack, or move and shoot though you can take a 5' step as part of your action. Also, a "charge" is a single action, but you have to move in a straight line and there are penalties: +2 to hit but -4 AC.]

Initiative:
Yimris 22
Atan 18
Ruig 17
Meneloss 11
Ruglan 9
Draxim 8
Kezib 6
Sangraal 1
Madragar 1

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
Atan slides forward until his back is touching the door, arrow aimpoint centered on the thick beard, "Ghel vas, dwarf."

[4 squares straight forward so he is against the door. He is holding his shot until the dwarf does something hostile.]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
The old dwarf regains his senses and chokes out in broken Moagaran "I am unarmed!"

Ruig advances, putting himself between the ladder and Atan, then surveys the hallway and the room beyond. The stout priest of Urox barks out a nasty dwarvish curse, then shouts "broo!"

In unison, the line of elves, dwarves and humans all snap their gaze from the strange dwarf atop the ladder into the room to the east. There, maybe seventy feet away, a half dozen axe and spear armed broo are gathered around a giant pile of animal furs (perhaps Koraeus' bed). Some have torches, and all have the hideous, slavering hyena visages of the Jangui clan.

Kezib, will turn back to the Dwarf upon the ladder and watches him, to make sure that the dwarf doesnt make any foolish moves.

"That was no language that I understand! I've seen enough!" On his initiative, Draxim fires his crossbow at the easiest target. Probably a broo with a torch.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
Madragar discharges his crossbow at the largest broo in sight. Then he moves to get out of the way.

He speaks to the dwarf in the same tongue the dwarf spoke in.

[GM see note].

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
Draxim's bolt streaks through the darkness that seperates the door from the torch wielding broo and strikes one of the unsuspecting creatures in its clawed foot. It doesn't seem to harm the beast much, but it sure does attract its attention.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
A second bolt flashes toward the broo, this time from Madragar's crossbow. The shot is wide, however, and shatters uselessly against a stone wall somewhere off in the dark.

Ruglan will move up next to Ruig, facing the broo.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
Madragar says "I have told these dwarves that we will not harm them if they give us no reason."

Then he reloads his crossbow.

He will continue to load and fire his light crossbow each round until the situation changes appreciably.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
Meneloss steps into a fighting crouch. He utters some ancient Elven words which causes a shimmering disc of force to appear in front of the mage.

[Can I still edit my action? If so, Atan would have bitch slapped that skirt-wearing, alterboy we call Sangraal. ]

[Sorry, Atan. But the loud girl-like screams eminating from Sangraal have givenalert to the forces of Chaos. An enraged Cockabroo is moving in behind Sangraal and he doesn't appear to be resisting. - GM]

In your face with holy goodness
[Seems some one has a case of the "would haves"....]

"He almighty, to whom we pay homage....." the reassuring words of Yelms Benediction reverberate through the stone walls. The heartening words of virtue seem to push back the darkness and lend strength to the party. The short glorification of Yelm ceases as Sangraal raises his flail and gestures with a gauntleted hand.
"Come broo..."

[OOC: Bless 10 rounds party is +1 to hit, +1 fear saves
Light 10 minutes on flail
]

Re: In your face with holy goodness
Kezib will continue to watch the dwarf, to see if the dwarf moves.
If not, Kezib will step to the edge of the door, whip his head around the back side of the door to see if there are any more broo back there, then quickly retreat to his former position.

[The surprise round is about 3 seconds long. Kezib spends it watching the dwarf who doesn't seem inclined to get shot by Atan. - GM]

Charge!!?
[ I can't tell from the combat map if there is a broo within charge range. If there is then that is what I'll do, if not I will move 60ft to get closer. ]
