Re: Use the force...
"You don't know that!" retorts Madragar angrily.
"If you'd been around that door and had seen all of us charging in, bows firing, you'd have defended yourself, too. Maybe he's a friend of the broo, and maybe he's a friend to the angels, but we'll never find out if he's dead!"

Re: Use force!
[Sorry, I have to back up a bit. Atan can only 'run' in a straight line, not around the door. He takes a double move instead.]
Draxim advances to where Meneloss, now standing, is staring a hole at the retreating legionnaire. Without looking at the dwarf, Meneloss takes the crossbow in his hands and slowly raises it to his shoulder.
Ruig and Ruglan advance on the last broo, hate in their eyes and weapons swinging. The beast makes a jab at Ruig as he approaches and scores a telling hit on the dwarf. Blood from a wound in his chest now flows with that which oozes from his forehead. Heedless of his injuries, Ruig knocks the broo senseless with a brutal blow to its head. Ruglan follows close behind, cutting a six inch furrow in the thing's neck. The broo is thrown to the ground and screams, pouring its life out onto the cold stone floor.
Kezib looks around at the situation and decides that despite the confusion someone needs to keep an eye on the dwarf. The monk tries to communicate with the stranger, but the dwarf is unable or unwilling to answer him.
On the stairs the legionnaire, now barely lit by the long shadows cast by two oil lanterns set on the first step, suddenly disappears. Rather than continuing his flight, the warrior backs against the next riser, ducking down below the lip of the stair and out of view.

Dead Reckoning
"By Orlanth that hurt" Sangraal says to himself as he draws on in reserves to pull himself completely onto the stairs.
"Qa Tin, Valitas ul pacta" Sangraal says haltingly to the darkness before begining the verses of Sanctity.
*GM note*
"Protect thy servant, hold him safe even in the face of adversity...." as he raises his flail to expose the hidden Legionnaire.
Lastly he moves to the second set of stairs and attempts to throw imself up the next set of stairs.
[OOC: He casts Sanctuary: attacker makes will save or aborts attack on cleric Sangraal thenclimbs up the next step climb -1 and moves to the lip of the third step raising his flail to expose the hidden enemy.

[Before I take my move, please verify that the map is incorrect. I believe Madragar should by next to Meneloss.]

Deja Vu
Atan runs past Meneloss and Draxim, his backpack swaying from side to side wit each step. Reaching the first stair he reaches up, grabs the lip and attempts tp pulls himself up.
[Atan will move and then climb, not sure how far he will get but he won't try and get up on to the step with the legionaire this turn. Climb +4 (Lightly encumbered -0, leather armor -0)

Re: Dead Reckoning
Draxim looks for the ladder. Can he see it? or does he have a good idea where it is?
To Madragar he says, "He could be possessed by one of those black, clotted, shadow-servants of chaos. Better safe then sorry! If he wasn't in league with the broo, he would have helped us against them. Besides he attacked Meneloss!"

Re: Dead Reckoning
[Sangraal and Atan are both trying to do too much in their actions. It's not so easy to scale an eight foot wall with nothing to hold onto.]
Sangraal, hanging on to the riser but mostly just dangling, tries to heave himself up. After a few abortive tries to get one leg over the lip of the step he loses his grip and drops back down to the floor. He then intones his prayer of protection.
Atan, on the first step, moves to the next riser and tries to climb it. Although he can reach up to lip of the step there is simply nothing to give his fingers purchase. He quickly decides that he'd be better off jumping.

Re: Dead Reckoning
[In my own experience an 8 foot wall is not that difficult for a person 6 feet in height and in good physical condition. I agree it would probably take at least 3- 5 seconds to scale one if you have a 5 foot run. Don't know how game mechanics work but it is doable. Nolan had to do it too for AW. But I will defer to the GM....just my two cents.]
[Atan will climb a step each round until he is directly below the legionaire Climb +4, Jump +2]

Aww crap!
Meneloss begins to walk backwards, tryng to minimize the angle of the stair, to deny the legionaire cover. As he steps back he says to Madragar, "If you wish him spared, enslumber him or ensnare him, but do something man! Enough of your Imperial Gobledigook!"
He keeps backing up but still has no shot due to the steep height of the stairs. He carefully puts down the crossbow, and calls to Draxim "Cover him."
He spends the rest of his action heading to where the Old Dwarf's ladder was.

Re: Dead Reckoning
[Regarding the wall, it isn't actually a wall. There is no backside to get your fingers around. It's a flat surface, so you have to get high enough to throw your center of gravity over it.
It's a jump followed by a climb check, and you're right, it's certainly doable.]

Re: Dead Reckoning
"Can't" says Madragar. I have no way to get the rope to him, and...."
Madragar stops, cuts his rope in half and picks up half. "Quedi Miroso!" he says, and twenty-five feet of coiled rope fly upward, hovering over the Legionnaire's head. (mage hand)
[Player's Note: The animate rope spell allows a poor man's entangle, but it requires a full round - one move-equivalent action to move or throw the rope onto the victim, and one attack action to cast the spell. So next round I'll drop the rope on him and cast the spell.]

Re: Dead Reckoning
[Good idea Scott! But wait for us (Atan, Sangraal and who ever else can climb to help) to be in position to advance to the third stair before you drop it. That way we can coordinate a bum rush with your spell being the trigger.]
[Also in hindsight I forgot that as characters we are also running around with fifty pounds of gear. The wall climb is still doable but you are only probably going to be able to climb one or two before your arms are burning.}

Re: Dead Reckoning
[It's not that easy to break out of a rope Entangle unless he's -really- strong. Even with a STR of 18, he'd only have a 10% chance per turn. If Madragar entangles him now, Atan and Sangraal can take the time to give each other a boost up to where he is. If he is still free when you clamber up the riser, he's going to play Whack-a-mole with your heads.]

Re: Dead Reckoning
[Note: Mage Hand only moves 15' per round, so the rope is not over the third step quite yet. Also, Madragar will need to be able to see his target, which he cannot at this time.]

Re: Dead Reckoning
Draxim moves to where his bossy elven freind has deposited his crossbow. He then pulls out his grappling hook and begins to tie one end of his 50' rope to it. "Madragar can that levititashun thingy carry this and put it on his ladder? If we get his ladder, that would really slow him down!"

Re: Dead Reckoning
[Speaking of which...]
The legionnaire suddenly appears, his head barely visible above the lip of the stair. From beneath his chainail coif he calls "Salahalharun!" Then, setting his ladder against the next riser he swiftly climbs to the fourth step.
[Note to Madragar and Sangraal.]
The legionnaire is now forty feet from those at the base of the stairs, twenty five feet from Madragar's Mage Hand, and thirty feet from Atan. He has no light source of his own, having apparently left his lantern on the first step, so will soon disappear into the shadows of the stairway.

Team TeamWork! aka Git 'im!
"Master Ruig! the ladder, we need the ladder! Ruglan grab the ladder and run over here." Sangraal calls out over his shoulder.
"Without it he will most assuredly get away!"
With that said Sangraal kneels at the base of the steps
" Those more nimble use me as a step so you may quickly traverse the stone."
[OOC: Sangraal will help/assist anyone trying to get up the stairs. Like we helped each other when we were coming down the stairs. Team work! ]
Spells up:
Sanctuary: will save to attack cleric, if failed than attack is aborted and lost.
Bless 6 rounds +1 to hit, +1 fear saves
Light: 10 minutes illumination as a torch
