Re: Team TeamWork! aka Git 'im!
Madragar moves the rope to settle over the legionnaire, and with the words "Vo hadhor rehvo!" ( animate rope), he causes the hempen fibers to constrict about the man, lashing him to his own ladder.
[If mage hand cannot get the rope there, Madragar just keeps moving it, patiently knowing that the legionnaire can't move as fast as the rope.]
To Draxim, he replies, "I am afraid not, my friend. The spell is not powerful enough to lift that hunk of iron, much less it and the rope. But look, speed will not be necessary if my animated rope succeeds in its task."

"Draxim, Madragar! The oil! The oil! Drop a flask of burning oil on him or his infernal ladder!"
"Sangraal give me a knee." Using the cleric as his own ladder he attempts scamper up the next stair.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
"Good gods, man" replies Madragar. "At least wait to see if my rope does the trick. Burn him and we may never get our answers."

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
"Humakt take me! Ask the damn dwarf your questions! But if we wait long enough, he will be in the dark where you can't see him and then he can get the rest of his friends we bypassed upstairs!" Atan shakes his head in frustration.

"I hope that Humakht shall not take you yet, Atan of the elves, but I also hope that great Yelm shall let some light into your eyes. See, I am so close! If I should fail, your oil will be delayed by mere seconds."
[Besides, no one's watching the dwarf, I think. He'll be halfway to Raven's Gate by now!]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
Madragar's levitating rope inches its way toward the legionnaire, whom the wizard can just barely make out in the dim lantern light.
Sangraal would help Atan, but he isn't on the first step with him. Atan manages to heave himself up onto the second step on his own, but is still two steps below the legionnaire.
Ruig and Ruglan grab the ladder and hustle to the bottom of the stairs. Kezib continues to watch the dwarf.

Fire scarecrow?
Meneloss climbs up the ladder set by Ruig and Ruglan: the bulls of Urox. Once up the first stair, he reaches up and hands Atan one of the lanterns. "Hold this high and close, so that Madragar may guide his rope! If he fails, then burn the devil!"

Re: Fire scarecrow?
Grabbing the lantern from the hands of Meneloss below, "Aye, I'll burn him out all right.", he says with a wink. Turning back to to face the next riser, "Yimris would like that."

Re: Fire scarecrow?
Draxim throws the grappling hook, now complete with 50' rope trailing behind as far up the steps as he can. He makes sure to throw it toward the side so that he won't hit any of his companions.
"Use the hook get his ladder!" he calls to no one in particular.
He then retrieves his crossbow.
[Draxim is not good at chasing. Stubby legs]

Re: Fire scarecrow?
Draxim (short legs but strong arms) hurls the grappling hook up the steps. It sails in a high arc, the hook spinning and wobbling, landing with a crash on the third step just a few feet to the left of Atan. The elf, lit oil lantern in hand, flinches at the tremendous CLANG of the tool striking hard stone.
The group is now mainly gathered at the base of the stairs, their faces turned to Atan's lone pursuit of the legionnaire. Kezib grabs the dwarf by the collar and man-handles him down the hall in order to rejoin his companions.
The oddly out of place soldier again sets his ladder against the next riser and makes to continue his climb. Before beginning to scale the ladder, however, he spots the rope levitating quite close to his position and instinctively draws his sword. Putting his back to the ladder he slowly climbs, his eyes darting back and forth from the enchanted rope to his pursuers.

Re: Fire scarecrow?
Ruig and Ruglan are at the base of the stairs with Sangraal, Meneloss, Madragar, Draxim and now Kezib and the dwarf. Atan is on the second step, the legionnaire is on the fourth. There are two ladders. The legionnaire's ladder is set against the fifth riser, and the party's ladder is set against the first riser. The steps are eight feet high, ten feet deep, and as wide as the hallway, which is thirty feet.

Up the ladder
Sangraal scrambles up the ladder then places his back to the second riser of steps. He sqwats down securing his elbows against his knees and cups his hands to create a makeshift foot hold.
[OOC: Sangraal will boost anybody coming up the ladder up onto the second riser in an attempt so then can get up two sets of stairs. Is this possible?]

Re: Up the ladder
Kezib will look to those that are on the ground. "Watch him" Kezib says with frustration, not able to communicate with the dwarf.
Kezib will start climbing using the ladder.

Gone Fishing
CLANG. The large hook's impact startles Atan who is focused on the escaping legionaire. He turns, setting down the lantern in the process and grabs the rope. With a slight pull, the hook slides down to the second riser and Atan chokes up on the rope. Without bothering to coil the rope, he quickly winds up and launches the grapplinghook towards the legionaire's climbing ladder.
[Atan is throwing the hook with the intent of getting the ladder. As soon as it lands he will verify it is set and then pull with all his might. (+4 to hit (+3 dex, +1 bless)]

Re: Gone Fishing
The legionnaire, being already focused on one flying object, quickly spots the approaching grappling hook. Being on the lower rungs of his ladder the hook, in fact, flies right at him. With consummate quickness and accuracy the soldier swats the soaring object out of the air with his sword, dashing it uselessly to the stone floor.
Sangraal scales the ladder and prepares for others to follow.
[He can certainly help someone to scale the next step, but it's still a difficult maneuver that requires a good amount of effort and concentration. Of course, if he had several huge wooden ramps...]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
Madragar places the ropes directly on the legionnaire, and commands them to entangle him to the ladder.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
[According to the PHB there is a reflex save to avoid being entangled by Animate Rope.]
Momentarily distracted by the flying grappling hook, the legionnaire is set upon by Madragar's enchanted rope. The thing quickly snakes around the soldier's torso and arms, coiling through straps, belt loops and anything else that might impede its target. In a few seconds he is wrapped up in the tightly braided bonds, though far from immobile.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part II
Ruig hussles quickly up the ladder to join Sangraal on the first step. Kezib bounds up the rickety rungs a few seconds later.
