Re: Locations
The bolt streaks to its target only to join its brother by striking the soldier's shield. THUMP.
The dwarf sneaks a glance over his shoulder to observe the situation on the stairs. Turning back to Draxim, he smiles.
"Have you hit him yet? None of the broo could."

Wish I had a pilum bolt.
Draxim's face falls. "Was he fighting the broo? Then we should be allies not enemies!" Draxim's youth and recent conversion conspire to color his view of the world into black and white terms. Besides this is a complete waste of crossbow bolts.

Re: Locations
Madragar spends a long second with his finger on the trigger, staring at the dwarf. But the plight of his friends takes precedence over any revenge for the dwarf's uncaring.
He ignores the dwarf. "Draxim, ignore him and give me a hand up. If we're going to save anyone, we need to do it now."
Wishing he had his crampons on, Madragar tries to grab the riser, and as soon as Draxim gives him a boost, moves up.
In the meantime, he yells in Lunar "Cease fighting! Legionnaire, you've made your point! You have won! Leave the living alive, I pray you!"

Caught in the Shitstorm, Act I, Scene II
The legionnaire looks poised to jump down the stairs and put his sword through the irritating Draxim and his little crossbow, but pauses when Madragar shouts out in lilting Lunar. Blood drips from his keen edged blade as he considers the situation for a moment.
Gesturing with his weapon the legionnaire replies in Lunar.
[Note to Madragar.]
As he does so, everyone (that's conscious) can't help but notice two motes of firelight high up in the stairway, probably at its top some two hundred feet above. The lights move side to side and the unmistakable, shaggy forms of broo can be seen beneath them.
The legionnaire notices everyone's eyes staring up past his shoulder and turns to look. He immediately whips back around and bellows out another command to Madragar, this one with a hard edge of urgency.

Poor little dwarf brain hurt.
"What did he say?" Draxim looks from the dwarf to Madragar in question.

Re: Poor little dwarf brain hurt.
The dwarf, still smug, says "he said to release me and bring me to him and he will spare your comrades. I'd do it quick. You don't have much time."

Medic!
Meneloss examines Atan. He inspects the wound and observes Atan's vital signs. He tries to stabilize the downed ranger. Diging into Atan's pack, he retrieves the Apothecary's bundle of healing herbs and bandages.
"Ruig please see to Sangraal." He pleads to the burly old Urox priest.

Triage
Meneloss unbuckles Atan's chest armor enough to inspect the wound and quickly decides that a healing poultice is not what the elf needs. The wound is deep and issues a steady stream of hot crimson. Meneloss tries to staunch the bleeding but Atan's blood simply squirts around his fingers and the elf sinks deeper toward the House of Death.
Ruig scrambles to where Sangraal lays and kneels before him, whispering a coarse prayer in his ears. Seemingly from within, Sangraal's body glows with holy light which returns some of the color to his form. However, Ruig shakes his head.
"I've done all I can. His wounds are beyond my ability to heal."

Re: Medic!
Madragar says to the dwarf "Then to your master you will go, a small price to pay for the lives of my companions."
He boosts the dwarf up to the riser (with Draxim's help?) and then scrambles up after him. He will continue to do so, at least until he reaches the ladders.

Re: Triage
Madragar and the dwarf struggle their way up to the first step. One ladder leads from the second step to the third, and the other allows access to the fourth step from the third.

Re: Triage
Ruglan joins the party back on the 3rd step. "We're going to have to move off these steps! There's broo up at the top that may come down." Ruglan looks around at all the wounded, "This is not good, this is not good."

Draxim does what he can to help get the injured down to the floor level in one piece. He keeps an eye on the legionairre though.

Re: Triage
[Let's slide on outta combat time for a moment or two.]
The next half-minute is consumed with the "exchange of prisoners" and the slow, careful process of lowering the half-dead fleshbags down to the bottom of the stairs. Ruig prays for Humakt not to take Atan just yet, and the Death God grudgingly complies. Atan is brought back from the brink, and looks considerably better than the pale Sangraal.
The legionnaire and his dwarf companion take one of the ladders and begin to ascend the staircase. Ruglan decides the remaining ladder might be useful and takes it along.
By the time all the group has convened near the massive stone door with their three unconscious comrades, a cluster of perhaps eight torchlights has gathered at the top of the stairs.

No rest for the wicked
[If The wounded are beyond Meneloss' meager healing skills +3 (with the healing kit of Atan a further +2) he will pray to Yelm to guide them and fetch Atan's Bow and whatever arrows he can scrounge.]
"I would see that black devil burn in whatever blasphemous hell the Lunars believe in! Along with his Dwarf as well!" He looks to Ruig and Draxim after he says this and mutters "...no offence."
He sizes up the wounded party: Ruglan's shoulder, Ruigs many cuts and the unconscious Kezib, Atan, and Sangraal. "We are in no shape to fight." He says making the understatement of the year.
"If this Lunar devil is against the Broo then..." His eyes well up with tears of frustration and rage.
Standing up he say's "...there are Broo yet to slay."

It's all over but the crying.
"No offence taken!" Draxim pulls out a dusty hanky and hands it to Meneloss, then thinks better of it and hands it to Ruig for a bandage.
"Urox! I feel so helpless!" He goes and checks on Yimris to see if there is any life left in him at all. If not, he begins composing his body for its final rest.
"Meneloss what should we do ... I mean how would he want us to ... What are the customs amongst your kind?"

Re: It's all over but the crying.
[Sangraal is alive, how about Kezib and the fast fading Atan? Yimris is dead no?]
Meneloss looks at Draxim and replies "Yimris was from another tribe. He also was a devotee of Humakt. Where I came from they burned the dead. I am not sure what Yimris would want. He was never one to worry about the bodies of the dead though." His voice trails off as he looks up at the torches flickering in the distance at the top of the stair.
"Come, let's honor Yimris by destroying those Broo!"
He stands up and brushes the dust off his bloodstained clothes.
[how many arrows did I manage to salvage?]

Re: No rest for the wicked
Having effectuated the actual surrender while doing none of the dying, Madragar feels less than useless. He attends the priests, prepared to do whatever they ask to aid the wounded or honor the dead. Nothing, either in his boyhood or in the employ of a Magus, has prepared him for the death of a companion. The philosophical resolve he expected to feel is nowhere present.
His mind tells him that they would all be wiser to let the Legionnaire finish off the broo, but like his compatriots, he too burns for revenge, even if only upon the savages.
