Wish granted...
[Meneloss recovered all of Atan's dropped arrows. I'm not sure how many that is exactly.]

The first malevolent hyena laugh rolls down the long tunnel of the staircase. It is quickly joined by another, and another, until the hall is echoing with a chorus of the hideous, savage call.

This draws the attention of everyone that's conscious. The broo are cascading down the steps in a wave of snarling maws and burning torches, howling and laughing as they go. Their speed is alarming, and the pack (perhaps a dozen of them) is likely reach the bottom in under a minute.

The legionnaire and the dwarf are about halfway up the stairs and slowly ascending with their ladder.

Re: Wish granted...
[Can the wounded be moved?]
Meneloss looks at the wounds of his companions and confers with Ruglan (who also has healing skill right?) and Ruig as to whether or not the risk of moving the wounded is worth it.
"If they can be moved, lets take them behind the door to keep them from these Jangui scum. Let's move them using the ladder as a stretcher."

Wild Geese
Ruig looks up at the descending horde, at his warhammer, then down at the wounded. Mumbling some obscure dwarven chant under his lips he kneels down in front of Atan.

"Storm Bull,
Master of war,
Bulwark of the world,
Blade that cuts the darkness,
The beasts of shadow are upon us again.
Our strength is yours, great Urox!
Our flesh is yours, great Urox!
Our blood, our will, yours great Urox!
Raise our fallen to fight again."

The black bearded priest grabs the archer's unconscious body and hauls him upright. Atan groans, staggers against Ruig, then opens his eyes. The elf is at first confused at his sudden revival, but soon finds the strength to stand on his own. His wounds are considerable, but Atan is conscious and mobile.

this looks familiar
[You guys, it may be worth watching what happens when the Broo meet this guy. It will certainly solve whether this guy is with them or not. He will either kill them or point us out to be slain. Not that I advocate standing around this place any longer then necessary.]

Re: Wish granted...
[The wounded can be moved. If it is done carefully they will not risk being destabilized (ie. start losing HPs again).]

[The broo are currently 160' away.]

Re: Wild Geese
Atan staggers for a momment, unsure of what has taken place. Looking about he gasps at the blood covered party and the pale corpse like bodies of Sangraal and Kezib. His attention though is grabbed by the chortling broo descending the stairs. Reaching for his bow from Meneloss, he thanks him. Strapping on the quiver, and DOUBLE checking that it is sinched in place, "What happened with the legionaire? Is he dead?"

[OOc: I dropped my sword on the stairs. I assume it was left in the confusion? Also I have 17 arrows. Thanks for thinking of that Sean.]

Re: Wish granted...
"Lets get inside the secret door and up on the stairs. We have already seen how beneficial it is as a defensive position. I recommend moving up as far as we can get and if they come after us it will allow us to shoot at them as they climb. Madragar, Draxim grab Kezib. Ruglan and I will grab Sangraal. Meneloss and Ruig set the ladder and recover it so we can move up as quick as possible."

[OOC: Can anyone think of a quick way to shut this secret door?]

Ruig shakes his head.

"It is a long way back to the other stairs, and these legs will not outrun those broo."

"True enough. Let's grab the grappling hook and hook it around the cornet of the secret door. If we can get mommentum we may be able to shut the door. Use someone nimble to pull the grappling hook off the door before it closes."

[That's only 2 range increments for a crossbow. They will be here in 2 rounds if they really haul ass.]
Draxim wipes his eyes, loads and fires at the nearest. +4 to hit 1d8 crit 19-20 x2

Re: Wish granted...
[Everyone's keeping track of ammunition, right? Draxim... right?]

While others talk, Draxim acts! The bolt sails up into the gloom, but the dwarf really can't tell if hit anything at this range.

Initiative:
Draxim
Atan
Madragar
Meneloss
Ruig
Ruglan

Re: Wish granted...
"Draxim, don't draw their attention please. The only frontline fighter that seems OK is Ruglan. We are in no position to engage. Lets withdraw and find a defensive place to hole up. If the broo find us there we might have a fighting chance. Here, worst case, the broo will bypass the legionaire and descend on us full weight. I think wisdom suggests we flee this fight." Atan walks over to Sangraal and carefully lifts his body, carrying him back behid the secret door.

[Sticking around to see what happens has its allure by thinking along the worst case lines.....it might not be prudent. Cause if we are wrong we are all dead. If I am wrong then we have hid for nothing, but are still alive and healed up maybe.]

Re: Wish granted...
[that was bolt #6]

"Get the wounded to safety behind the door. I will join you as soon as I am finished transforming some broo into porpentines! We need to take advantage of the distance while we can! We can make our stand by the door."

Draxim reloads and fires his seventh bolt of the day at whatever broo is the most opportune target. Only 21 left!

Re: Wish granted...
Madragar moves to recover his crossbow and smiles grimly at Draxim's bellicose actions. But the mage himself follows Atan's suggestions, and helps get the wounded beyond the secret door.

Re: Wish granted...
The wounded are dragged behind the huge stone door and set deep enough in the passage to be out of the way.

Draxim fires another bolt but... no, this time he's sure he missed.

[The broo are about 120' away]

"Meneloss! Are you sure you can't throw a fireball up there? Maybe we could light some oil to slow them down?"

[Where is the legionairre?]

[Both he legionnaire and the dwarf are about 80 or 90 feet up the staircase. -GM]

Re: Wish granted...
Atan sets poor Sangraal down on the cold floor. Moving back out into the hall, "Someone grab the ladder, using it as a strecther is a good idea and we can use later." The elven ranger on the other hand grabs the grappling hook and tests it on the door.

[He wants to see if he can get a good enough bite that would allow him to get the door swinging shut. If not then he will try and hook the ring in the door.]

Re: Wish granted...
[Since Meneloss suggested we move the wounded using the ladder, and since Scott said we moved the wounded, I'm guessing that we did so using the ladder and that the ladder is now with the wounded. The only thing outside the door is, I believe, Draxim.]

Madragar aids Atan in setting up and pulling on the grappling hook.

"Draxim" he says, "Now is the time to retreat, or be shut upon the wrong side of the door!"
