Old Kurlew, Part III
The group is gathered behind the massive stone door as a pack of murderous broo scratch and carve at it with their claws and weapons. Their efforts to open the door are futile, and the enormous stone slab holds fast.
Yimris' mutilated, and rapidly cooling, corpse still oozes blood from a dozen wounds. Sangraal and Kezib are unconcious.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part III
Draxim sets about recovering his grappling hook, and replacing it with a length of rope. He will prepare a simple but strong cinch knot then hold it in his teeth, while climbing the rope up to the ring. Once there, (assuming he doesn't fall and break his head) He tries to hold himself in place by slipping an arm through the ring, tie the knot, lower the grappling hook, and then rapell down the newly tied rope.
"That was a great throw on that ladder Atan." he says as he stows the grappling hook.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part III
[Or Draxim could use the ladder...]
Ruig hurls off his helmet and curses loudly. Stomping around the hallway the dwarf fumes and spits, kicks his pack, then picks up his helmet and throws it down again. Ruig is clearly angry, but it isn't clear exactly what he's angry about.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part III
Atan quietly walks over to Yimris and kneels next to the mangled corpse. His head sags to his chest as he grips the arm of his friend. Murmuring sing-song elven, so quiet in fact it is almost lost in the curses of the irate dwarf and the sratching of Broo claws. A moment passes and Atan stands back up.
"Ruig, please...... calm yourself. We can't assume the broo won't learn of how to open this door. We should go. Lets move the wounded on the ladder back to the stairs. Once there we can decide how best to hole up or possibly cross the chasm." Atan moves over and grabs a hold of the ladder rail and waits for others to do the same. "While we walk I would like to hear what the legionaire said to Madragar. Draxim would you like to lead?"

Ruig gathers his helm and pack, but stares at the door for a long time before moving on.

[A personal D+D first: 1) I threw a javelin 2) it hit 3)and it killed something!]
Meneloss says to Ruig and Ruglan "You two are brave and honorable. Recovering Yimris' body was worthy of song and tale. Were I more gifted with words, I would pen a tribute to your actions. Deeds need telling so that others may learn how heroes act." He bows low before the two.
[Awsome job guys, very Illiad! Mike or any others working on a new character: our group needs a bard! and more clerics ]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part III
"Feh," Ruig spits. "Damn the dwarf. He was nothing but a mercenary. It's the blade... Yimris' blade. I saw it and I left it behind."
Ruig seems very distressed at this seemingly innocuous event. More so than anyone has ever seen him.

divvy the loot!
Meneloss walks over to Atan and murmurs some Elven to him, placing an arm on his shoulder.
"Quende, this may seem crass, but we might be down here a long time. Yimris will no longer need his rations. Lets divide them amongst the living along with any other useful items he may have."
Meneloss says to Ruig "It is just a sword, I know he'll need something when he joins the Army of the Lightbringers, but the Gods know why he comes to them unarmed. We can buy one in Raven's Gate and place it in a shrine. He will not go unarmed in the afterlife. I'll see to that."

Re: divvy the loot!
Atan agrees with Meneloss. "Yimris would understand better then we think. The dead need not worry about material goods. Use what ever we can. I actually think he would have been suprised by brave Ruig and Ruglans dash for his body. He would have left it I think."
Atan turns back to Ruig, "What about Yimris's blade Ruig? He traded his bow, a thing he dearly loved, for that sword. I figured it was of value to his chosen faith and nothing more."
[Guys, voice opinions on what to do. I say go back towards the stairs and climb up six or seven stairs for a defensive position. We can also check out the possiblity of getting across the chasm. But first we need to heal Sangraal and Kezib if we can. If you think this is a fine plan say so in a post. If you have another idea, post it.]

[Personally I think the defensive postion idea is great]
Sangraal lies on the makeshift strecher/ladder not making a sound.

Re: divvy the loot!
"You elves have spent too much time in the forest," Ruig explains. "It was not just a weapon. Yimris was given a Pathwalker blade. They are sacred to Humakt, and signify one who is on a journey to enlightenment as a servant of the Death god. Such a blade is rare, and it is an afront to Humakt to let it fall to a pack of broo when it could have been avoided. I made a choice to keep his body from being defiled by those beasts, and now must ask Humakt for his forgiveness."
Ruig sighs heavily as he secures his pack.
"Sadly, Humakt is not a forgiving god."

Re: divvy the loot!
Meneloss gathers the packs of Yimris Sangraal and Kezib.
He hands them out to Ruglan, Atan and Madragar. "Here take these", he says as he hands out the packs then shoulder's his own.
With Ruglan's assistance, Meneloss places Sangraal and Kezib on the ladder he takes one end and Ruglan takes the other. They begin the tedious process of relocating the wounded.

Re: divvy the loot!
Ruglan and Meneloss lift the ladder only a few inches above the ground before the sounds of creaking and cracking are heard all along its length. The ladder simply will not hold both Kezib and Sangraal.
Ruig, still dour and fuming over the loss of the Pathwalker blade, makes several identical incantations over Kezib in the low, grumbling tones of his native tongue. Bit by bit the monk's most serious wound closes - or at least is not so open to the subterranean air. Kezib coughs violently, then sits up. He is conscious, but only just barely, and can move on his own.
"That's all I've got," Ruig declares.
With only Sangraal on the makeshift litter, the ladder groans a little, but holds.

Re: divvy the loot!
On hearing Atan's plan, Madragar nods silent agreement.
On receiving Ymris' ration, he takes it, and solemnly places it in his pack.
On hearing Ruig's tale of the Pathblade, he turns even more dour. "Then it must be recovered. Here lies only the shell of our companion, honorable for his memory, but only dust. There lies his soul, and we must recover it or be deemed little men indeed."

Re: divvy the loot!
Upon regaining conciousness, Kezib looks around. Not knowing whats going on, but seeing the body of Yimris and Sangraal with the pacing Ruig and statement of Tarandor, Kezib knows that things did not go well for them.
Last thing Kezib remembers is being sliced and diced by the Leigionare.
Kezib, wonders what came of the Leigonare, but holds his tongue as if he breaths too heavy, he starts coughing up blood again. The metalic taste of blood fills his mouth from time to time, reminding him that he is in no shape to do much but follow the crowd.

No secrets between sailors
Meneloss being one to respect the dead, even to a fault suddenly grows angry. "Confound his secrets!" He catches himself and takes a breath. Then he continues "If Yimris had informed us of the nature of his blade then perhaps it would not have been so carelessly left." He looks to Ruig and says "No offence Ruig. It was a brave thing you did, and with Broo in pursuit it is understandable."
He looks to the assembled group and asks "Is there anything sacred or direly important we need to know about now? If we are to survive we must trust one-another completely. No secrets."

Re: No secrets between sailors
Kezib, slowly and painfully says "I...I have *cough* nothing of....." pausing to catch his breath "value. I did try....try to see what the change was.....". Kezib starts coughing harder and holds his had up as to say give me a second.
After the coughin subside Kezib continues " I tried to find out the reasons behind his change in demeanor, yet he remained secretive about it."
Kezib looks upon the body of Yimris and reflects upon the short conversation that they held together. He also takes a moment to reflect upon the closeness he came to joining Yimris in the battle field in the sky. Gazing upon Sangraal, Kezib says a little prayer to himself:
"Oh bringer of Light, as I gaze upon the broken body of my friend for so many years I beseech thee!
Bring Peace to my friend, if not bring back his life.
As young as I am, is he. If not my time then why his?
I see he breaths, yet not awakens, and I know that I once was like him, in that same state. Bring peace to him or take his soul peacefully"
Kezib raises his head upwards and wipes away a single tear from his right eye.

Re: No secrets between sailors
Atan grimaces under the weight of carrying the inert form of Sangraal. Listening to Meneloss, he nods his head affirmingly. Looking out the corner of his eye towards the tatooed fisherman, "Yes, no secrets......Madragar, what did the Legionaire and the dwarf have to say to you?"
[Atan will keep his eye on Sangraal's conditionto ensure his wounds do not reopen.]
[I have seen everyone check the posting this morning so I will assume that no one has a problem with going up the stairs to hole up.]

Draxim chews his lip thoughtfully. Then he looks at the ladder and hits himself in the forehead. "duh."
