Re: Study Hall
Draxim, not having studied the figures very closely, can't remember too many details.

Re: Study Hall
[Scott - Is Sean right about cross-studying of spells? I thought you said it would be more difficult, though I can't now recall why. If so, they'll certainly be doing that.]

Boring mage stuff: everyone but Madragar and GM ignore
[Madragar: check the PHB p155. There is a three step process to learning a spell from another book.

1) it must be deciphered. That is accomplished easily with a Read magic spell or better yet, "if the person who created the the magical writing is on hand to help the reader, success is also automatic."

2)The spell must be learned. "The wizard must spend a day learning the spell." Spellcraft check DC 15 +spell level"

3)then we can share our books to memorize the learned spells. Spellcraft check DC 15 +spell level.

4)copying spells into our own books would eliminate step 3 but we have no materials for copying spells (100gp per page! which by the way is why I have no problem keeping any gold we may be so lucky to find!)

Re: Boring mage stuff: everyone but Madragar and GM ignore
[I know the standard rules. What I'm saying is that I thought Scott had said it was more difficult and complicated in Moagara. If he's okay with it, we're on a roll.]

[Oh, and don't get me wrong - Madragar WANTS the gold. He's just trying to be ethical. If it's no longer any use to Koreaus, the Madragar Fund for Large Spellbooks will have it's seed money.]

Re: Boring mage stuff: everyone but Madragar and GM ignore
[Magical research is generally more difficult in Moagara for a number of reasons. However, those impediments don't extend to memorizing spells from other wizards spellbooks.]

Time passes....
[OOC: speak up if you have something you want to do over the next two days on the stairs, otherwise I vote for a time passes.... Role playing a horrible belly wound is my bag baby.]

Alright, Madragar spends the day teaching the intricacies of his Charm of Warding (mage armor) to Meneloss.

Show me yours, I'll show you mine
While Meneloss is studying Madragar's book, he offers his own collection of scrolls for his colleague to peruse.

...
The hours drift slowly by on the dark staircase. No herd of murderous broo come storming along the ledge. No coven of wild were-bats swoop by to pluck anyone off the stairs to be devoured somewhere off in the shadows. It's actually a very dull experience.

[Three more meals, please. Expended light sources: 8 flasks of oil and 3 torches.]

Sometime in the "morning" Sangraal has recovered enough to endure the healing prayers of Ruig. He intones two seperate chants over the pale form of the priest, restoring him to a level of health such that Sangraal can pray for his own healing.

Ruig intones another prayer for himself, closing the last of his ragged head wound.

[Everyone is at full HP. Sangraal is seriously wounded.]

So whatcha, whatcha, whatcha what you want?
Atan stands up and says, "We have had alot of debate over the last 3 days on this infernal staircase of what our next course of action should be. I believe we all agree that our survival and safety lies in sticking together. So can we agree that majority rules?"

[OOC: Ideally I would like us all to stick together so the group ageeing to follow majority rule would speed this adventure up and avoid a rehash of the last 10 days of realtime discussion. Everyone chime in with what you think we should do. We have discussed the pro and cons of most of these ad nausium.

1. Go UP the stairs and explore and fight.

2. Go DOWN the stairs and explore, fight and try and get Yimris's blade back.

3. Go across chasm and check out magical door.

If you have a novel idea please post it with any pros and cons you can think of. The most important thing is everyone POST!]

Re: So whatcha, whatcha, whatcha what you want?
Looking around at the party for consensus on the majority rule he also states, "I think we should go across the chasm and check out the door. We are already here and not discovered yet, so I think we might as well. At a minimum Sangraal, Ruig and Madragar should inspect the door. After their inspection we can discuss opening it based on what they decipher."

Re: So whatcha, whatcha, whatcha what you want?
[ I do not advocate a 'majority rules' rule for our party. Sometimes the majortiy is wrong. However, I vote for #3: the door option.]

Meneloss waits to memorize his spells until a consesus has been formed regarding the party's next action. He eats another dull meal of dried fruits and nuts. His hard-tack bisquit is almost impossible to eat as his water skin is nearly empty...

[We are going to die of dehydration soon. If we can't get water I change my vote to #1 to go up to the pool in Koreaus's Great hall.]

Re: So whatcha, whatcha, whatcha what you want?
Ruig doesn't look thrilled at the idea of being hoisted across the chasm. In fact, he appears downright ferklempt.

"A fools errand I say," Ruig grumbles. "But I will go and see this wretched door if that is what is decided."

Re: So whatcha, whatcha, whatcha what you want?
"I will stand guard here if you wish to study the door more carefully. I do not like the thought of opening an entrance to a shrine of chaos either. I would rather go up the stairs and see if there is another way around," say Ruglan. "Those broo should not be allowed to wander the giant's hall destroying what they do not understand and taking what they will." Ruglan pauses, rising to his full stature, raises his voice slightly and says, "We should take this place back from chaos!"

Re: So whatcha, whatcha, whatcha what you want?
[So, you're saying the game works better if we post?]

Leaning on his ashen staff, Madragar says "It is in my heart that the door leads only to the temple of Chaos, and to our doom and sorrow. Thus do I counsel that we leave as soon as possible."

"However, I am content to wait an hour, no more, while the priests examine the door, so long as all agree not to open the door yet."

"As for the rule of the majority, I do not like the sound of that. Each must make his own choice. The majority can be a tyrant. However, we would be worse than fools to go our separate ways in this darkness. I choose to go where goes the majority."

No Water anywhere and not a drop to drink
[It has been 2 days since we have gone underground. That is a lot of water consumed. A waterskin weighs 4lb full: that is around 2 quarts. a 160lb adult needs 2 quarts of water daily. This begs the question: DO we have access to spells which can get us water? If not we have to find other sources pronto!]

Meneloss laments "Oh that I would have saved Yimris' water rather than gpour it over his corpse. Soon I shall join him if I don't get more water."

[Unless anyone has more than one waterskin they are in similar duress!]

"Sangraal, can you not Create Water?" Begs the thirsty elf.

Re: No Water anywhere and not a drop to drink
"Yep, my water bag is light as well. I guess that does change things unless the cleric of Yelm can help? We would have to head back up to get at the pool of water near the netrance."

[GM - We have been tracking food and oil but water would become a very real concern. Joyner is right on the intake needed and we could survive 3-4 days with no water. How do you want to handle this?]

Re: No Water anywhere and not a drop to drink
[I wasn't going to keep track of it, but it seems that under the conditions I probably should. For the sake of simplicity we'll say that a full waterskin will keep folks watered for two days. At this point everyone's waterskin is empty except for Ruig who has a second 'skin, which he shares. That one waterskin will last for a few more hours.]

Re: No Water anywhere and not a drop to drink
"The followers of the Storm Bull do much to honor him. Thank you master dwarf, may you always walk in the light." the cleric of Yelm bows his head in deference.
" Thank you all for tending to me on deaths knell."

Later as Meneloss pleads for water.
"My friend I can not create water. If Yelms wills it; he shall provide, I am merely an ewer, a flagon blessed. From this vessel he imparts his divine power."

Oh yes, everyone thinks at once, Sangraal is healthy again.

Though his movements are stiff and he winces slightly from pain as he shuffles around collecting waterskins, Sangraal seems in good spirits. His color much improved from the last couple days.

Ambling across the stone riser which has been there camp for the last 2 days, Sangraal runs his hand over the rough stone wall. His hand glides across the stone stopping at a small fault in the rock. Quietly Sangraal begins an appeal to Yelm and his son Orlanth. At first, his pleas seem to have been ignored but then a trickle runs out between his fingers from the fault. The rate gradually increases as Sangraal bends to fill the waterskins.
[OOC: Create Water: 2 gallons]
