Ahhh that hits the spot
[ooc: 2 gallons is enough to fill 4 waterskins, we need to fill 8 skins]

Meneloss bows his head in thanks "Another boon from Yelm's chosen. I am fortunate to find myself in such company." He asks his friend "Sangraal, What is your mind? Do we cross yon Chasm or sally forth?"

Slosh, Slosh, huh?
Draxim still has Yimris' skin. (Remember he got pretty much everything?)
'Yelm's Light I am glad to see you up and preachy!" Draxim clasps Sangraal on the shoulder nearly making him spill the last of the skins he has filled.
"What say you to a flight across yon chasm? We need you to take a look at some inscriptions there. If you can figure it out then maybe we won't make Ruig go across." Draxim doesn't wait for the less-than-cautious cleric to give an answer, but sets about checking the ropes for any damage that he might not have noticed when he coiled them.
"Don't worry, you can take your beloved flail!" he chortles in earnest now a great weight lifting from his mind.

"Madragar, do you have some magic that can tell what other magic does? There was some weirding on the door that he couldn't figure out." he points at the snake wearing elf with the bruised expression.

"Regrettably not, Kezib," responds Madragar.

This time with feeeewing: recount.
[Even a crazy reckless elf can tell the difference between a 4'4" Dwarf (Draxim played by Kenner)and a bald human monk (Kezib played by Jason). Are those spiders still after you? Better go show your neighbor who is boss:) ]

Meneloss gratefully accepts his filled waterskin. The parched elf slacks his thirst with the clean fresh water. Then he takes a moment to bow his head in thanks before splashing a small amount onto the ground. "For our companions who are no longer with us." murmors Meneloss.

"We are split with four wishing to cross the chasm and four not. It seems 'majority rule' works only in odd batches. We'll starve here on the ledge at this rate. If none of the four against will change their mind, I am for sallying forth. It is better to die in battle than from old age or starvation, which at this rate we are headed for one or the other."

Re: This time with feeeewing: recount.
[I count: 5 for the door (Meneloss, Draxim, Atan, Sangraal, Madragar), 1 for up and fight (Ruglan), 1 who will go check out the door if everyone else goes (Ruig) and 1 who is staring blankly into the darkness (Kezib). Sounds like the door has it.]

[So everyone gets half a water skin, enough water for 1 day.]

Atan hefts his water bag and takes a quick drink. Holding the bag up like a prize, "Ahhhh, Yelm be thanked!" Grabbing his backpack he unbuckles the top flap and stows the waterskin. "So shall we set up Meneloss' contraption and start across?"

Re: This time with feeeewing: recount.
Sangraal feels a little better after attending to his own injuries, but is still badly wounded (he can count his HPs on two hands now).

[With the use of one Spider Climb spell and a little time, anyone that wants to be across the chasm can be. Ruig suggests the group drags the giant hammer over to the ledge to use as a counterweight for the ladder so he doesn't have to sit on it. This is done and after maybe twenty minutes the intrepid explorers are at the door. Ruig would prefer to stay behind, but will advance if he is needed, though someone must stay on the south side to pull people back.]

Ruglan will stay on the ladder side of the chasm while the rest go and examine the door leading to HELL!

Ruig cracks his knuckles, preparing for a few rounds of egg-apple-anvil with Ruglan.

"I'm ready for your 'triple-smith' gambit. Let's see how you handle the 'salty omelette'!"

Contraptions
[ladders are such crazy things. It is amazing they work at all. Rope now that is just plain silly! :) ]

Meneloss admonishes the group to wait until he can memorize his daily spells, which will take nearly half an hour. Since he is most experienced in the crossing, he will use his spider climb spell.
As before, Meneloss removes his armor before casting the spell. He also leaves behind his bedroll and most of his food. This time he does take his scrollcase. Also he takes Angewitta, his familiar, which only for the crossing, he puts inside the scrollcase for safe keeping. He tucks his boots into his pack.
Then he waits for Draxim to tie his expert knot. With a three count, Meneloss casts the spell and then steps off and swings across.

Re: This time with feeeewing: recount.
(Earlier: Draxim holds the torch closer to his face for the benefit of Madragar. "That was me what asked that. I forget that you tall folk can't see so well down here.")

Draxim climbs back up the face of the door with Meneloss' help as they did before and says," Everyone quiet! Listen closely" Once everyone has shushed, he touches the outer ring like he did before to produce the sighing voice.

[Currently Meneloss and Draxim are alone at the door. I'm not going to put anyone there unless they say so specifically.]

Oh then Draxim will wait until someone else is there to demonstrate. He definitely wants a cleric there to interpret the carvings. He takes a closer look at the carvings.

Red rover, red rover send Atan right over
Atan preps his gear, sinch all his buckles tight, and covers the top of his quiver with his winter cap and a leather wrap to prevent the arrows from falling out should he find himself upside down.

Stepping up to the ledge he ties himself in, the way Draxim demonstrated, and swings across with the aid of his commpanions.

[Atan is lightly encumbered so he brings all his gear.]

Re: Red rover, red rover send Sangraal right over
Sangraal will attempt the perils of the "Meneloss swing of Doom". He will remove his armor and heavy gear, tie them securely together ( hopefully with Draxims help) and attach 50 feet of rope to them. He will then secure the rope to himself as he crosses the chasm. Once over he will need Meneloss's and Draxims help to haul his gear over.

When the chore of crossing the chasm is done, and he has helped as many people over as needed, then he will proceed to the door.

Re: Red rover, red rover send Sangraal right over
Inspecting the carvings that decorate the huge stone door, Sangraal quickly concludes that it is indeed the story of the Lightbringers. The right side of the door is dominated by a bas relief of Orlanth, Humakt and Urox leading an army into the underworld and returning with Yelm. Yelm, it seems, is represented by the polished steel circle of the locking mechanism.

The left side of the door is a bit more difficult to decipher. There are a number of different figures, some male, some female, and Sangraal cannot positively identify any of them. The women could be Chalana Arroy or Hroldi, but they do not bear the traditional symbols of those two gods... at least as far as Sangraal knows of them. There are robed priests and a pair of armored war chiefs, though they are standing in relatively non-threatening poses.

My Chaos sense is tingling?
Meneloss concentrates on sensing the unwholsome disturbances of Chaos [Sense CHaos +1]

"I am not sure that this is the fabled entrance to the Temple of Doom. Wouldn't there be a more obvious warning?"

"Draxim show them what happens when you touch the ring."

Re: My Chaos sense is tingling?
[Draxim already said he would, so...]

Draxim gently brushes the edge of the locking mechanism with his fingers, and a moment later a subtle sound emerges from the left side of the door. It seems to come from one of the female figures, her head about ten feet up from the floor. The sound is very much like a soft, female exhalation.
