Re: My Chaos sense is tingling?
Hanging from the door with his freinds below him, Draxim says "So? should we open it?"
He then touches the middle ring lightly, straining his senses for change.

Re: My Chaos sense is tingling?
[I guess I should repost a description of the locking mechanism.]
The steel and bronze disk is about six feet in diameter and joins the two halves of
the door together about twenty feet up from the floor. It appears to be some sort
of locking mechanism. There are five concentric circles in its surface, each made
of polished steel and adorned with bronze and silver embellishment. The inner and outer circles appear to be simply decorative. The middle three, however, each have a single depression cut into their surfaces. The depression is about one foot wide, one foot deep, and perfectly circular. Each depression is at the bottom of its circle (6 o'clock).
Meneloss gets no sense that there is any Chaos nearby, or any lingering traces of it on the door.
Draxim reaches out and brushes against the central circle of the lock. It is slightly convex, bulging out from the surface of the lock an inch or so. As he touches it, the steel circle emits a dim yellow (and apparently harmless) glow.

Re: My Chaos sense is tingling?
Sangraal reflects on the meanig of the door and the three circles.
"Since the center locking mechinisim refers to Yelm. I theorize that the three circle do indeed refer to the lightbringers - Orlanth, Humakt and Urox.
Maybe the key is to position each depression in order in which they appeared. Orlanth, was first, Urox, second, Humakt, third. Since touch seems to be a tactile sense inwhich the door interacts with, I say the next step would be to touch each depression without turning them. Did the sound coming from the womens mouth, is there an opening there? If there is, is there any other openings in the door?"

Re: My Chaos sense is tingling?
Sangraal cannot sense any taint of Chaos in the area.
There are no openings in the surface of the door. The sounds seem to have come from the figure itself not from its "mouth" per se.

[OOC: Draxim can you check out the stone door to see if there are any openings in the mouths of the figures on the door. I bring this up incase its a gas trap or some holes fire needles.]

Now who's the monkey?
First Draxim touches the innermost circle with a depression on it.
Draxim traverses over to the figure of the woman who emitted the seductive sighs and tries to determine where the sound came from.

Re: My Chaos sense is tingling?
Atan strings his bow once on the other side and nocks an arrow. Watching the others inspect the door he stays warily alert. A quick glance at the door leaves him puzzled as to what the opening mechanism could be. "I have never seen a giant but did Koreus have five fingers? And would each finger fit into those five holes?", he asks aloud to no one in particular.

Re: My Chaos sense is tingling?
[There are only three holes. Five rings - the inner three have the hemispherical depressions.]
Draxim scuttles over to the other side of the door, but finds no evidence of any holes in the stone. Touching the lock again does not raise any further sounds from the female figure.
Atan can detect no sign or trace of Chaos in this area.

Re: My Chaos sense is tingling?
Answering Sangraal, "Yes, that does make sense! The outer circle is Chaos for all was born of it. The last in the center is Yelm, trapped. While Yelm was trapped in the center of the earth, Chaos ravaged the world. That is when the other gods were born." His voice drops into a monotone chant of a litany remembered by rote from his childhood, "First was born Orlanth, the God of the Sea and Wind, for all life came from Yelm's light, the air and water.
Next came Urox, the God of Battle, who rose from Yelm's hatred of Chaos.
Alongside Urox came Hroldi, the Crone, the spirit of healing and knowledge to balance the fury of Urox."
"So maybe Hroldi is the last one? Do those three circles move? If so you may need to orient each depression to face the correct god in sequence of birth?"

Step into the light, Carol Ann
"But Atan, Hroldi wasn't one of the Lightbringers. No I think that I just point this outer one at Orlanth, this middle one at Urox and this inner one at Humakt. But no one answered my question. Do we even try?"
"Also listen closely to this:" He slowly turns the outermost of the three circles 2 clicks as he did earlier.

Re: My Chaos sense is tingling?
Meneloss says "My curiousity has gotten the better of me. I think we should open this portal, that is if we can."
Urging on Draxim he adds: "Turn the last ring like you did yesterday. Let's hear the strange sound again."

Re: Step into the light, Carol Ann
Draxim slides the outermost ring (of the three with the 'holes') a bit to the right and immediately a soft, female voice emerges from the figure on which he is perched. It is distant and devoid of emotion, but continues for several seconds after the dwarf has stopped moving the ring.
"Geilal theiyduin halaram queiral valras rhurhrum kalem dal..."
It is not a language that anyone recognizes, and according to Meneloss is not arcane in nature.

"Draxim, turn the ring to Orlanth, let's test your theory"
Meneloss begins to get a far-away glaze to his eyes, and an unsettling grin begins to crack his torn face.

Hold on there Tex
[I'm gonna stop the action right here until more people have a chance to chime in.
Atan, Sangraal... speak up. Madragar and Kezib... are you at the door, and if so speak up.]

Re: Hold on there Tex
Sangraal take several large steps back from the door.
"My concern is that to meddle with the unknown is to invite disaster. We are punching blindly in the dark. This door was built with a purpose let us ponder the riddle of the rings."
[Would Draxim spending a good amount of time carefully inspecting the door lead to anymore information?]

Re: Hold on there Tex
Atan takes two excited hops backwards away from the door at Meneloss' suggestion. "Wait! Just because we can is not a good reason to open this portal!"
"If it is the light bringers then I am convinced this is the shrine of Chaos.....and since we cannot destroy it then we should leave it alone! Lets clear this mountain of the foul broo and send for the Ghurgil and those learned! We are messing with things we do not understand!" Atan's tone is biting and serious.

Re: Hold on there Tex
[Sorry, have been in a stupid training class all day, that I forgot about. For the sake of argument, I will be with the rest of the group watching them trying to open the door]
Kezib looks at the group and says "I agree with Atan, just because its there, doesnt mean that we have to open it. I think we should be careful of whats we are doing, and listen to the wise Sangraal, lets try to figure out what this all means first."

Is it? isn't? it is? isn't it? is it? isn't it! is it!......
"You are right we don't know. In fact you have no idea whether this doorway leads to the shrine or not. A gut feeling is not proof of anything. There is only one way of knowing, and that is to open the door. We don't even know if we can open the door, If Draxim turns the ring to Orlanth and something happens, that is further evidence nothing more." He replies to Atan's paniked hysteria with a calm monotone.
Meneloss looks at his timid companions with a slight sneer of disdain.
"I would that I had not wasted a spell to bring you here. If Broo Slaying was all you wished for I have more approriate magiks."
"I change my vote: Let us stop wasting time, spells, and breath. Enough doubting and cringing at the unknown. I would proceed henceforth from this damned cavern. Either we meet our deaths or destroy the chaotic interlopers but I will dally not one second more!"
Meneloss turns his back on the group and heads back across the chasm.
Once there he puts on his armor and repacks his pack carefully. He sits with Ruglan and Ruig watching their game of Anvil and Egg with detached amusement.

Re: Is it? isn't? it is? isn't it? is it? isn't it! is it!..
Atan is annoyed by the unpredictable and capricous nature of the elven mage, "I need no patronage from you. You continue to give ill advice based on YOUR gut instincts and only by the breath of those around you are you still here. Those of us who help you, you show disdain and mockery for their oppinions with no empathy. Do not throw a childs tantrum because we promote a cautious approach that differs from you own."
