Re: Meneloss Hobbleyhook
Meneloss moves over to the ledge and arranges to have Draxim's things tied and hauled over to the North Ledge.

The Door
When the glare lessens, Madragar says to those nearby "I offer the conjecture that the light was a defense mechanism...a trap. I urge you to continue, Draxim."

Re: The Door
" The Thasvara Sun Rolls, at least penned copies of them, I studied in the Cloister of Dobrug. I remember an early text describing the Purification of Hijtak, it spoke of a holy illumination blinding the beasts. Though not much more detail then that." Sangraal says obviously pleased with himself at the obscure reference.

The Door some more...
While Meneloss is futzing with Draxim's gear, and Sangraal pontificates, the wall climbing dwarf reaches out to move the middle ring.

The subtle click-click-click of the lock is quickly drowned out by an explosion of noise. Blaring trumpets, clanging bells, and roaring drums are intermixed with a chorus of angry, but incomprehensible, shouts. The cacophany rolls through the chasm and echoes back a thousand times, rattling teeth and equipment. It sounds as if the whole mountain may be crashing down onto the ledge. Yet, nothing directly harmful comes of the alarm. The sounds dissipate after a few seconds, though Draxim nearly lost his grip amidst all the clamor. The middle ring stops with the same *clunk* of the outer ring, pointed vaguely at Urox.

For a moment Draxim sighs with relief... that one wasn't so bad really. A few seconds pass before a second glow seems to emerge from the door itself. The carved stone figures, large and small, writhe into motion. The pale blue light illuminating the alcove coalesces around the figures and takes on their shape. One by one they step out of the Lightbringers panorama and raise their glowing, insubstantial weapons.

[There are a dozen of the beings. Orlanth, Urox, Humakt and nine others that no one recognizes. They vary in size from two to eight feet tall.

Feel free to act...]

Buh...

Since he still has Spider Climb up, Madragar moves straight up the nearest wall.

Re: The Door some more...
Yanking the bronze disk from the cord around his neck, Sangraal proudly presents the holy symbol. Stepping forward Sangraal addresses the incorperal entities.

"By the light, wardens go back to your rest. We come in the name of Yelm the bringer, first light of the world, father to all!"

[Can Atan, Ruig and Ruglan hear the commotion?]

Atan listen +6

[They can see the whole situation clearly, though they are about 100 feet away from it. -GM]

Re: The Door some more...
Atan draws an arrow, nocks and half draws, concerned of hitting a friend in the tight confines of the tunnel. "What are those things?"

[Atan will hold his attack until it appeares that one of those creatures will actually strike party member. Then only if he has a clear shot (ie no shooting into melee) (+3 to hit due to rng/ 1d6)

Re: The Door some more...
[Madragar has Spider Climb up? *shrug*]

The tatooed wizard bugs out, scuttling up the west wall of the alcove and out of reach of the glowing warriors.

Orlanth, tallest of them all, charges forward to confront the bold Sangraal, his spear held high. The aggressive move causes Atan to fire, the arrow disappearing into the intervening darkness before becoming visible again in the distant torchlight a split second before striking its target. The missile whistles through the iridescent figure of the Wind God and shatters on the hard stone door without effect.

Orlanth points an accusatory finger at Sangraal, ignoring the priest's holy command.

"Geilal theiyduin halaram queiral valras!" Orlanth roars before plunging his pale blue spear into Sangraal's chest.

Sangraal flinches at the sudden strike, but the weapon passes right through his armor, torso, and out the other side.

In a whirlwind of flashing blades, Humakt bounds through the stunned group. Kezib's head is neatly cut from his shoulders and Meneloss' hands are sliced off before the Sword God opens his belly. However, the blades remain totally insubstantial, and neither Kezib nor Meneloss are harmed.

Urox roars in defiance, his noble human visage replaced by that of an enraged bull. He points up to where Draxim and Madragar are perched on the door and wall. The other nine figures suddenly produce stout recurve bows and fill both dwarf and wizard with glowing, ethereal arrows. Again, Draxim and Madragar emerge unscathed.

Things that make you say hmmmmmmmm
Atan un-squints his dominant eye and raises his head from its usual shooting position. "That's different.", he causally remarks to Ruig and Ruglan as the party is assailed by the apparitions.

Ruig scratches his beard (as he often does) and croaks out a few dwarvish phrases, apparently to himself.

"I don't like it," he says to no one in particular.

"Are you mad, elf?" Kezib cries out as he positions himself to prepare for possible battle.

"I think that these are not neccesaraly traps, but maybe a warnings. Or......I dont know, this is just too much to ponder on. Whatever the fate that Yelm shows us, lets be done with it quickly"

[After the Attack, Do the figures disappear? Do the continue to attack?]

If the figures persist Meneloss shouts to Draxim "On second thought, perhaps you should turn the second dial back... Let's see if that disspells these apparitions!"

"Mayhaps the direction the dial is turned has significance!" He adds while unsuccessfully trying to dodge the Death God's ethereal blade.

No? I thought that's how he got across. If he's still on his feet, then he'd simply have moved straight away from the figures.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Draxim," he cries, "Meneloss is right. These weapons do not harm us because they were meant to harm creatures of chaos. Turn the dial!"
Re: Things that make you say hmmmmmmmm
[The process by which the party crossed the chasm was:
1) Meneloss cast Spider Climb on himself and swinged (swung?) across the chasm using the ladder extended out into the chasm as a pivot point. Sticking to the North wall, he climbed up.
2)The other characters were lowered down the south side of the chasm, A second rope was tied to them and lead to Meneloss who pulled the character across the void, presumably starting with Atan or Draxim who are good climbers.
3) the others crossed using the same method but are pulled up the entire way by the combined strength of those already on the north side.
There is nothing stopping Madragar from having Casting Spider Climb though it would have been redundant.]
DANGER Will Robinson
"No, they are trying to tell us to leave." asserts Draxim. "Can someone write down what they said so we can maybe ask someone later?" Draxim hastily replaces both rings to their initial positions and climbs down.
"We are not meant to open this door. We have been given a sign from the Lightbringers that we must not do this thing. Quickly let us leave this place and take our fight to the broo, which is what we have been guided to do." Draxim is clearly shaken, and very very serious.
Re: DANGER Will Robinson
The moment Draxim moves the middle ring back to its initial position the figures vanish. The chasm goes quiet and Madragar, Meneloss, Kezib, Sangraal and Draxim are left alone on the ledge with the dancing light of their torches.
Re: DANGER Will Robinson
"Kezib, sometimes I wish that you weren't so soft spoken my freind. You are right about that being a warning. Meneloss and I will stay and hold rope. Who wishes to go first? Ruig, Ruglan! put the anvils and eggs down, we are coming back over!" Draxim can't imagine for a moment that his compatriots would not recognize what to his mind was clearly a warning from the Gods.
[Sorry guys. Draxim is both superstitious and freshly converted. Gotta play the role I signed up for.]
