Re: DANGER Will Robinson
[Good role playing. I figure most of us not privy to the arcane or divine magics are probably more superstitous then the others.]
Atan sets down his bow and moves to grab a rope and help the party cross.

And they're off.
Madragar looks at Sangraal. "What does your heart tell you, Speaker for Yelm?"

So it was, so shall it ever be.
Sangraal attempts to intervene as the parties determination to open the door fades.
"Draxim please hold. Your apprehension in this situation is understandable. I am but a mere acolyte, a young servant of Yelm. In my years at the cloister I saw and learned many things, both beautiful and horror. This door is indeed meant to keep out intruders as you fear. But its creators also knew that at some time the need to re-open this door would come. Hence the design and nature of the door and its traps. The bringers of light have little to fear."
Sangraal makes a fist.
" Old Kurlew has fallen, most of the broo have already moved on to plunder elsewhere." Sangraal extends his thumb.
" A Legionnaire and a Dwarf on a ladder, working with the broo" next his index finger.
"The dwarf was searching for something, when we opened the door the Legionnaire questioned the dwarf as to how he opened it, so they must have known it was there." Sangraal flashes a third finger into the air.
"What are they looking for?" a fourth and final finger ticks off.
"To deny the invaders any prize they might find in this place is a victory in itself. I remember an old priest saying once, 'To deny your enemy a weapon is to provide yourself with two. One that he does not have, one that you do."
Touching on a final point Sangraal explains,
"No one should question our retrieval of objects gleaned from this tomb for it is a home no more, the broo made sure of that. Though any item of religious nature or concern we can turn over to those at the Dwarven Halls in Ravens Gate."
"Draxim, let us get Ruig over here and then we can proceed after he has heard what the door has to say or sing."
Sangraal tries to meet Draxims eyes with a warm gaze, meant to reinforce the conviction of Sangraals speech.
"Master Ruig, you assistence is required at the door. It speaks in a tongue none can comprehend. We ca not make a choice until we have exhusted all avenues. Atan, Ruglan, please assist Master Ruig as he needs." Sangraal calls across the chasm.
[OOC:Diplomacy:+3 Get Ruig to get up and come check out the door .]

Re: So it was, so shall it ever be.
Ruig, paying close attention to all that has transpired across the chasm, calls back "I have heard the tongue spoken by the door, Dawn Brother, and seen the Lightbringers stand forth and challenge your intrusion. The language is none that I have ever heard, but it was not born of Chaos. No, I will remain here to rescue you when your folly is realized."

Re: So it was, so shall it ever be.
Looking at Sangraal "Brother, I know your heart is pure, and your desire is strong, but I fear that this is a warning. You, proudly show those around you, that you follow yelm, yet the vision of Humkat did not slow to try to slay each and every one of us. I think we should heed these warnings, and listen to Ruig, and ponder upon this before we end in such a manor as we did with the legionare, blood flowing from us, and we lost Yimris"

Well, now that you mention it
Atan chimes in after Kezib, "Your logic is persuasive, alcolyte, but how can you be sure that Chaos seeks to gain an item and not free something of malevelonce?"
"We seem to be missing a piece of this puzzle and I am nearly convinced that it is not in front of us on that door. Maybe clearing this mountain of Broo we may learn more of what it is they sought."

My God shot an arrow at me.
"We don't even know what the words were. They could have been 'Keep Out this is a festering pit of unholy chaos' or 'welcome to the pub'. The point is until we know, I have to take the warning of Urox as a guide for my actions. I'm sorry Sangraal, Meneloss " he adds. " I know you had your heart set on it, and I did too until we were warned away." he offers the rope to whoever will take it.

Concede
"I concide the point" Sangraal shouts across the chasm to Atan.
"I will not force the issue. Let us go explore more of Old Kurlew. My gut feeling though is that we will be back at this point again sometime in the near future."
[OOC: Any way to turn this setback into a positive? Why yes... we could set up an ambush for the broo by opening up the secret door. We could have all the spell casters and bows on the other side of the chasm ( so the broo would have to cross the chasm to get to them), and the melee guys out of sight on the stairs ( which has shown to be a good defensive position). Classic Pincer movement in D minor. What do you think? i f the broo are looking to get in then when they see the door open they'll most likely come in and there only seems to be one way in.]

Re: Concede
[A great idea, but we might want to consider the wisdom of letting the broo in here at all. If we could be sure of closing the door, so as to not let in the whole kitten (or jackal) kaboodle that would be best. We have to keep them from going back and letting in reinforcements. Our strength here is that they can't get in once the doors are closed. I doubt they have anyone posted at the lower door any longer. If they do then they'll certainly have been lulled into complacency by our extended stay in this dank and dismal place. Oh wait I forgot to play in character!]
"Amazing! the entire frieze was carved from a single slab!" Draxim appreciatively evaluated the craftsmanship on the door. "And this place in general all carved out of the living stone. No joins or mortar anywhere. Remarkable."

Atan tilts his head inquisitively at the comment of "living stone".
[Lets wait for Meneloss, Ruglan and Mad to chime in before we decide a path.]

Once More, over the breach
With a shrug, Madragar says "At least we know it to be protected from the broo. It is well, then. Let us go."
And he crosses the chasm, hopefully for the last f'in time!

Re: Once More, over the breach
Meneloss looks at the assembled group with a long face. "It would seem, that it is not yet meant to be. I agree with Sangraal, we will have business with this door at another time."
He helps the others cross the chasm. When it is down to Draxim and Meneloss, the elf mage says "I would like to cross last my friend. I was first and it seems somehow fitting."
[ooc: YT does sangraal explain his plan? Or is that truly Out of Character posting regarding the 'ambush?']

Re: Once More, over the breach
"OK Meneloss. Besides, I don't think I could pull of that whole swinging thing." Draxim crosses, leaving Meneloss alone on the other side.
"Be careful! That's still a steep drop."

Upstairs Downstairs
After Draxim crosses and Meneloss is alone on the North side of the Chasm, the mage looks back to the door and again at the assembled crowd on the South side of the chasm.
He slowly puts on the harness and carefuly checks to see it is on. Then he throws his line across the chasm. Once the line is secured by several party members and the ladder is weighted he calls out "On three! One, Two Three" He then steps off the ledge and swings halfway across.
Hauling himself up the rope to the end of the ladder, he crosses the rest of the way hand-over-hand. Once at the ledge he is helped up by his companions.
"Now then, Upstairs or Down? I vote Up because that door is still a secret."
