Re: Upstairs
Meneloss smiles at Atan and says "Upstairs it is then."

Meneloss sets the ladder against the bottom stair and climbs up waiting for the others.

[ooc: we are all in agreement then or at least the majority agrees the upstairs door is where we are going. When we get to the top lets come up with a plan...]

Re: Upstairs
The group begins the long trek to the top of the stairs. With only a single ladder it is a slow and tedious process. The long tunnel, its ceiling obscured within the deep shadows of the mountain, is a haven for echoes and the journey elicits a steady chorus of footfalls, breathing, and the slap of the ladder against cold, unyielding stone.

After an hour of climbing the group convenes on the landing before the secret door, their thighs throbbing with fatigue.

Re: Upstairs
Sangraal sits heavly on the ground shoulders slumped. Stareing at the flail that lays in his lap, that he has carried up the flight of stairs.
"Its much like a love hate releationship." he says to it jokingly.

"On the off chance that we can actually hear something, lets be quiet for a minute and let the dwarves hear what the stones have to say."

Re: Upstairs
[Any chance for a comprehensive map?]

Draxim uses the ladder to climb up to the top and check on the rope that he left tied to the ring.

Re: Upstairs
Meneloss approaches the door and when all is silent, he places his ear to the stone (Listen +5).

[ooc: If it appears that the other side is clear, we should devise a plan for 'splorin' I advocate the following:
1)We stick together
2) We systematicaly search each room we find
3) We close up the secret door to keep it secret and to keep the broo/Legionaire from finding the locked door.
4) Voting on every little thing will become tedious and the bickering of our party will alert enemies: I nominate a leader to make the simple desicions for us
5) I nominate Atan
5a) THe Ladder can be carried by the two with the lowest encumbrance: Kezib and?]

[What's your plan for the ladder? It weighs fifteen pounds.]

Re: Upstairs
Atan huffs and puffs with the rest of the party back up the stairs, Good tactical choice, appear where they don't expect you., he thought. "But my legs feel like rocks in a pond."

Reaching the top of the stairs he stretchs his back, "Madragar, do you remember these upper chambers at all? We saw the guest quarters down the hall, to the left from this position."

[We can dump the ladder in one of the big rooms up here. Should be easy to blend in with all the broken stuff. Don't think we should stash it behind the door cause we may need it and we don't want to have to use a spider climb to get it.]

[As for being a leader. I just try to promote open consensus and get everyones input. Then picking the choice that seems the most logical and in the groups collective interest is usually an easier task. I personally believe that as long as we agree that sticking together no matter what is our best course of action, the need for a leader is greatly reduced. That said, I believe we all eventually reach the common sense solution, some take longer then others, but if you ALL want me to make a call at some point during discussion, I can do that.]

[OOC: This stuff should be done in character. Scott Nolan and Madragar have very different ideas on this stuff!]

Re: Upstairs
Atan looks at the fisherman mage, lips pursed in thought, head ever so slightly rocking form side to side as he weighs the options.

After a moment, "First off Ruglan has the lantern, Meneloss has a torch. Sangraal can always cast light when needed. OK.....open the door enough for me and Draxim to slide out, he goes right and looks into the main hall. Just to see if the bad guys are guarding the entrance. If no, he stays there. I will wait and watch for Draxim to give the all clear before I move from the door towards the guest quarters. Meneloss will step out and watch both Draxim and I for any warnings. Once I give the visual all clear, the party comes to me with Draxim and Meneloss guarding the rear. If I remember correctly the guest room has three entrances. I will stay at my entrance, Meneloss and Draxim will take the others. The rest of the party does the searching. We can alternate duties as necessary. I want to search the guest quarters first because I am assumming that they ultimately lead to a dead end. Before we can search the rest of this place I want to clear our backfield." Scratching his head he also adds, "It is important the Broo do not gain access to this secret door. It must be shut as soon as reasonable. If there are Broo waiting for us we cannot wait for them in here. We must move into the hall, shut the door and engage. I think we all learned from Yimris to not over extend yourself. Stick together, watch your budies back. Missiliers roll to the flanks and pour on the fire. Mages take second rank and cast.....oh, and Kezib and Madragar carry the ladder."

[Solid stream of consciousness, common sense should still apply. Guys with really good move siltently, spot and listen will be our primary scouts (Meneloss, Draxim and Atan) others can and will alternate as new requirements come up. Basically lets go left.}

A Plan? A Plan!
Meneloss nods in agreement to Atan's ideas. "A solid idea Quende. In these matters I will defer to your expertise." The elf-mage reaches over to Sangraal's pack and takes his remaining javelin. "You do not mind eh Sangraal?" With a javelin in his right hand and the torch in the left he waits by the door to follow out Atan and Draxim.

[ooc: this is what I meant by leader - someone to decide we go left so it is not a three day debate. We are doing something, yay!]

Javelin Man
Sangraal acknolodges Meneloss's thievery as he removes the secured javelin from its place on his pack with a simple nod of consent followed by a quick remark.
"Your aim is keen, elf. I pray that javelin serves you well and I concur, Atan for simplicity sake should lead. May the Bringer guide you Atan, and by extension guide us."

Re: Javelin Man
"Now that's what I hoped to see," whispers Madragar to himself.

As directed, he gamely walks over and seizes one end of the ladder and waits for the plan to unfold.

The tattooed mage looks satisfied, as if plans of his own have borne fruit.
