I thought we climbed some stairs after we closed the door,and therefore needed the ladder to return. If I'm wrong, then we obviously go without the ladder, and in fact, Madragar probably doesn't need Draxim's help for that.

[We did climb some stairs, the ones we took on the way down and we are holing up there for now. Our current position is 400 feet west and 100 feet south of the secret door and Yimris. I recommend not going as stated in the previous posts.]

Scary dream
[OOC: Sangraal deep in a coma has a vivid dream where one of his friends is in a coma-like state and when all the other friends are faced with a difficult task, everyone goes running off in different directions. Luckly the dream ends with Kezib being made Grandmaster of the order of the Sun and ruling a world full of winged monkeys. Sangraal has a couple more dreams but they involve Vala.]
Sangraal disturbingly pops a tent. Who would have thought he had that much blood left in him?

Drums in the Dark
Ruig and Draxim put their ears to the stone stair and listen. [Really they don't so much listen as 'sense' distant sounds.] Both dwarves shake their head, but note that the last time Ruig listened on these stairs he didn't hear anything either.

Hook what?
There is a ledge at the bottom of the stairs that is thirty feet north to south and several hundred feet east to west. The stairs are at the western end of the ledge.
Directly north of the stairs, across the ledge and twenty feet of chasm, is another ledge. The dwarves can see that this northern ledge is about thirty feet wide and extends north out of the range of their dark vision.
They also see that there is absolutely nothing to catch with the grapping hook.

[is the opposite ledge lower, higher or the same level as the ledge the party is currently on? Anybody have +5 bonus to jump and feels lucky a 20 would do it  ]

[The chasm extends off to the west out of sight. The south ledge proceeds east about two hundred feet before it meets the east wall of the chasm, then plunges into it becoming a tunnel. -GM]

Brainstorm
Meneloss, though deflated by the inability to hook something across the chasm has another idea to make the time pass and make some silvers.
"Another wager then, everyone places a silver in Sangraal's helm.
The one who has an idea that works for us to get across the chasm wins."
Meneloss tries to inventory the party's supplies.
[We have a ladder, I still have 50' rope, I have 2 spikes. Draxim has a grapnel, What other items do we have which could help? Chime in people! except you Sangraal!]

[The south wall and the east wall where the southern ledge meets it. So, presumably yes, though that assumes that the east wall of the chasm meets the north wall somewhere. - GM]

I have an idea!
Meneloss looks at the ladder the chasm and the stairs. He sits for a moment and excalims "Ele Quen Va!" He then blurts out his idea for the consumption of the group:
"We anchor the ladder at the top with ropes. These ropes we spike into the top of the first stair. Then we lower the ladder like those draw bridges in Tunlura or Raven's gate. It will shorten the distance across the chasm to less than ten feet."
