Re: Light!
Noticing that the momentum has shifted away from their headlong charge, Ruig slows down and keeps in the shadow of Ruglan's shield. Both are about thirty feet from the broo.
The cornered beast, hunkered down in the shadows between two of the statues, lashes out at Sangraal but it is a weak attack and doesn't even approach the unarmed priest.

Kezib, noting the actions of Ruglan and Ruig, will follow suit, and move out of the way, of line of fire.

Sidestep..one.two.three
The distent clatter of his flail landing behind the broo concerns Sangraal for only a second before a burst of light leaves searing afterimages. Clenching his left hand into a fist he raises it in a vain attempt to guard himself before sidesteping around to the right seeking cover from a statue.
[OOC: Sangraal takes a 5 foot step to get out of the line of fire, fights full defensive +4 AC and attempts to put to the statue between him and the broo. If more then a five foot step is needed to get out of the line of fire, then Sangraal will take the move eq action and fight defensive.]

Re: Sidestep..one.two.three
Sangraal is able to crouch behind the stone dias that supports one of the massive statues. He can still see the broo's weapon gleaming in the torchlight, but is out of the line of fire and relatively safe from the broo.
Madragar continues to cover the rear of the group.

Re: Sidestep..one.two.three
Atan takes a moment to gauge the position and attitude of his target, relative to the broo's weapon and its gleaming yellow eyes. In the deep shadows of the chamber, and partially covered by the stone dias, the broo is not an easy target. That doesn't keep Atan from putting an arrow into its neck from twenty feet.
The creature's spear hits the stone floor with clang, followed by the broo itself staggering out of the dark grasping the wooden arrow shaft, blood spirting from the wound. The broo's mouth froths with saliva, its eyes wide with terror, but it only lives for a few moments. With an agonizing cry the beast topples to the floor, dead.

check...
Meneloss, sword in hand approaches the killing ground cautiously. He picks up the sputtering brand from the dead Broo which had perviously been entertained by its hammer weilding colleague.
He looks about the chamber with his trained sharp elven eyes:
(Spot +7/ Search +5 if applicable)
[ooc: nice job! Take them out with missile weapons, nobody charge nobody gets hurt. Lets make this operation a template for future situations. Damn I wish I had a bow, but Sangraal's javelin will do for now]
(speaking of which, he searches for that item amongst the bloody pincushions)

Statues
Meneloss is able to retrieve his javelin, Sangraal his flail, and Atan (miraculously) all of his arrows. Draxim and Madragar's bolts, however, were broken.
The chamber is in the shape of a half-circle, its flat side to the east where stands the archway from which the party entered. All along the curved north, west and south wall of the chamber are tall stone statues. These are not as immense as the statue of Orlanth in the main hall, but still quite large (each about fifty feet tall). There are twelve, and it is hard not to notice that these twelve figures correspond to the twelve that were engraved in the mysterious "puzzle" door. Orlanth stands tall in the center with Humakt and Urox on his flanks. Nine other figures stand to the left and right of those three gods - some armed, some not.
All of the statues have been defaced and defiled. It looks like the broo have spent days hammering chunks out of these statues, urinating on them, and flinging globs of their own excrement as high up as they could reach.
Meneloss notices that in the center of the circle of statues, more or less in front of the statue of Orlanth, there is a large portion of the stone floor that is discolored. It looks like a rug or mat of some kind was there for a long time, but it is now gone.
There are no exits from this room other than the one party entered.

Re: Statues
Moments after the Broo's body has hit the floor Atan is kneeling over it with his dagger out. Recovering his arrow he slits the throut of the beastman in the process, "Just for good measure.", he announces. Quickly he moves to the other two fallen Broo and repeats his knifework. He quickly wipes the gore from the arrow heads on the fur of the last chaos spawn and reseats each shaft in the quiver. Catching Kezib's attention he flashes the five finger count and then moves back to the entrance of the room. He intently peers into the darkness to watch and listen down the hall.
[+7 spot, +7 listen vs Broo]

Cut open the belly and stuff it full of rocks
Meneloss says
"We cannot be certan that our possession will be unmolested. There still is the stairway to the surface which is not secure. We should back track to our packs, retrieve them and return to this location."
"And these..." he motions to the Broo corpses "... should be stuffed into one of these alcoves."
He leads by example and starts dragging the dead broo into a nook which is not visible from the hallway. He motions for the others to help him.

Kezib, acustomed to helping, will aid Meneloss in draging the bloodied corpses into a nice hiding spot, waiting for one to pop up and attack.

Re: Cut open the belly and stuff it full of rocks
Atan looks back at the group as they drag the corpses out of sight of the hall, "Everyone has five minutes to do whatever needs to be done. If there is a reason to stay here longer we will get our packs and return. Otherwise we will continue on."

Meneloss hears Atan's proclaimation and approaches the ranger. He leans close to Atan and quietly says something in Elven.

wabbit twacks
Sangraal is deeply aggrieved at the desecration of this place of honor for Orlanth.
"Foul children of the dark. Thrice damned you shall be." he spits on one of the broos corpses.
Moving around the statues Sangraal stops at the obvious signs on the floor of a rug having recently removed. Glancing around for the rug, Sangraal takes a knee and inspects the discoloration in the floor.
"Draxim, Meneloss, what do you make of this?" Sangraal asks.
[OOC: Search for the rug, and search for a secret door in the floor]

Re: wabbit twacks
Meneloss hears his name and breaks off from the conversation he is having with Atan. On quiet footfalls he pads over to the priest.
"I think it seems that the rug has been taken off as spoil. Most likely it has been spoiled." He points at a pancake of Broo feces splattered on a statue for emphasis.
"I think we should continue our quest to clear Old Kerlew from these vandals. If we live, we'll give this room a second look."
After the corpses are out of sight he signals Atan and nods we're ready
"Let's retrieve our packs before we continue." He says to the party. Meneloss quietly stalks south to the chamber where the packs were left holding his borrowed torch aloft in his left hand, javelin in the right.

Re: wabbit twacks
[Since the death of the Broo we haven't spent more then a minute in here.]
Atan puts his hand out to block the way of the elven mage, "Don't run off Meneloss. Your torch would be a beacon to those hunting us. Nothing in those packs is worth a life."
"Anyone see a reason to stay longer? If not, Draxim you're up again. Go up to the hall with our packs. We will wait here for a minute then start to follow behind you. Come back if you see our hear anything suspicious. Once we meet up at the packs you should start scouting the other passage and Madragar and Kezib will pick up the ladder." Turning to face the monk, "Oh and Kezib, grab the other Broo torch off the wall."

Nodding, Kezib quickly slides off to grab the torch. Once retrieved Kezib grabs Atan's attention and asks, quietly "Do you want it burning or not?"

Re: wabbit twacks
Draxim, joined by Ruig, search the walls and statues of the place for any hidden stonework mechanisms or seams in the rock, as well as where Sangraal is inspecting the square discoloration. They find nothing.
[Atan: Broo almost never wear armor, but he does recall that Ghulku the Dark Eye (aka Elkhead) was wearing crude leather at the Ambush.]
