Madragar is satisfied that there is nothing else here. He remains on his guard, watching the corridor until the troop is ready to move on.

Re: wabbit pellets
After hearing Sangraal's words, Draxim shakes his head and produces his dusty travel begrimed handkerchief.
"It just don't seem right to leave him like this." he complains. He begins wiping and cleaning the statue of Urox as best he can, but once the handkerchief becomes poop infested he looks around for a place to dispose of it, and finally stuffs it in a dead broo's mouth. He cleans his hands, looks at the statue again, and then gives up. With a nod to Atan, he switches to his crossbow, loads it and sneaks back to the packs.

Onwards...
Draxim reloads his crossbow and scuttles through the darkness back to the main hall and the pile of backpacks. Both intervening chambers are cold, quiet and empty. After the group retrieves their gear, Draxim scouts the eastern arched hallway while the group waits in the northern of the two halls.
The eastern hallway is identical to its western neighbor: sixty feet long, thirty wide and surmounted by a high arched ceiling. Draxim creeps down the corridor, pausing frequently to listen and scan his surroundings. The hallway opens into large square chamber that Draxim, taking position in the center of the room, can see is nearly empty.
Three archways lead from the chamber, one each in the west (from where Draxim entered), north and east walls. The southern half of the room is littered with immense slabs of uncut granite, a gigantic wooden stool, and a collection of enormous tools. Poking around the area, Draxim concludes that this is some kind of sculpture workshop, though everything is sized for a giant. The tools appear to be untouched by the passage of the broo.
Both the east and north exits from the room lead to massive staircases descending deeper into the roots of the mountain. There are no visible light sources down either tunnel, but the northern staircase has both a giant sized set of steps, and a human sized set running along beside them. This convenient arrangement is identical to the long staircase leading from the surface down to the main hall.
Draxim returns and reports.

Re: Onwards...
[Hmm, it doesn't make sense to wait for the party to advance. You don't really have any other place to go...]
The group moves ahead into the giant's workshop and shine their torches on boulders the size of ox-carts, some even larger. If Koraeus was sculpting any of these stones it is hard to tell. None of them show more than minor cuts, and there are few stone fragments on the floor. Another set of giant sculpting tools are here: a huge chisel and matching mallet.

Re: Onwards...
Meneloss looks around the sculptor's studio with awe. "This Koreaus was a master artist. I envy you Madragar for having met this giant."
He briefly confers with Atan in the same low murmuring Elven which is barely audible to the others.

"He was a most gracious host and noble lord," agrees Madragar. "And I yet hold out hope for his fate. Ill news indeed if such a one were removed forever from these shores."

Re: Onwards...
Ruig walks up to each of the two descending tunnels and peers down their length as far as his darkvision can reach. Scratching his beard he paces back and forth between the two, seems to make some calculations on his fingers and says, "this one... the eastern stair. This leads to the giant's bedroom, and the other secret door."

Re: Onwards...
Hearing Ruig's estimation, Meneloss breaks into his characteristic grin. The scar which runs from his forehead to his chin stops the smile from spreading across the right side of his face. His right eye a permanent scowl from the scar, is opposite in appearcne from his left. It is sparkles with life. The left side of his face shows the signs of his pleasure, while the right betrays no such emotion. It is entirely disturbing.
He looks at Atan as he smiles and says in Elven "I was right!"
He moves over to the Northern Stair and listens intently into the deep gloom

Noting the pleasure in Meneloss's face, Kezib mutters to himself "Simple pleasures" with a smirk to himself. Kezib will also listen (+3) as best he can and will scan the area for anything that might prove useful (spot +3 )

Neither Kezib nor Meneloss see or hear anything down the northern tunnel.

"Have you any clue where the other leads, Ruig?" asks Madragar. The mage sniffs the air in the direction not chosen by the dwarf.

Re: Onwards...
Ruig leans against the stone lintel of the north tunnel and peers intently down into the depths. Turning back to Madragar he pulls a waterskin to his mouth and takes a long drink.
"Deeper into the mountain, and north, so farther from the entrance. Whatever this place was built to defend, or contain, is probably down there... along with the broo I bet."

It is settled
Looking over at the conspicuously silent Atan, Meneloss makes a strange face of consternation.
"Well then it would seem the North passage is the one we investigate. Let's continue as we have. Draxim will you perform a breif reconnoiter for us? Though the stairs are undoubtedly a long way down, use your best judgement as to how far ahead you will go."
Meneloss then stands at the head of the stairway listening intently for Draxim as he (if he) goes down the staircase.

*twiddle*
Draxim cautiously creeps down the small stone staircase with the high stone wall of the tunnel to his right and the giant sized staircase to his left. Meneloss strains to listen for the cunning dwarf, but his soft footfalls fade into nothingness in less than a minute.
Draxim continues his descent for several minutes, losing sight of Ruig's lantern light in the chamber above and still not coming upon anything worth returning to report. Draxim estimates that this staircase is at least as long as the one leading from the grizzly, corpse-littered ledge on the surface down to the main hall. Finally, after almost ten minutes, Draxim espies the gimmer of firelight below him. Creeping closer he can see that the tunnel opens into another large chamber which extends to the north out of his field of view. The area around the bottom of the stairs is well lit, it seems, by several oil lanterns similar to the one carried by Ruig.
Draxim halts his descent at a safe distance from the dancing shafts of light and listens. Just at the edge of his hearing, almost obscured by his own heartbeat, he hears a distant chanting... or, perhaps something else. It is rythmic, not unlike the sound teams of oarsmen made while guiding their river galleys up to the docks of Dobrug. The sound continues for several minutes then stops. After several more minutes of listening, Draxim returns to the group and reports what he saw and heard.

Re: *twiddle*
Atan looks grim at Draxim's return. "Chanting?......Like a ritual?" He looks at Ruig and Sangraal. "Not good. We have given them almost three days to find what they are seeking....Any guess on their numbers?" Without really waiting for a response from the young dwarven scout, "I guess this is what we came for.", he says resolutely.
[Atan is set on going to the north, but the other choice is going to Koreus' room. Speak now or forever hold thy peace.]

There were giants in the Earth
"Now we must hold our vigor tightly reined," says Madragar, "and by means both stealthy and organized seek to know the number and intent of our foe. Haste will be our epitaph."
"The reason we have come is no other than to know the fate of the mountain-lord Koreaus. If we know his fate does not lie below, we should not go. But since we know not the manner or truth of his demise, we must try to lean what transpires below."
"And use caution as our watchword, or die alone and cursed for fools."

Re: There were giants in the Earth
Ruig snorts. "The giant is dead, and it is a fact as plain as the stone beneath my feet. I will go face whatever beasts haunt the depths of the mountain and smash their wretched bones to pieces." The dwarf raises his hammer for emphasis.

Re: There were giants in the Earth
"Aye!" agrees Meneloss "Death to our foes and the enemies of Moagara. We will avenge Koreaus or perish in the attempt. Whatever unwholesome doings are being done needs must be stopped!."
Meneloss takes a breath to calm himself and continues.
"As for a strategy I have an idea."
He pauses for the groans and rolled eyeballs at the mention of another Meneloss caper. Then he starts up again
"With Draxim and Ruig to our fore we can descend the stairs. I suggest we use Ruglan's candles for our light as staircases in complete darkness will be our doom before the Broo ever get us.
Once close to the bottom of the stair we can set up a defensive position. Whereupon we attract our prey and dispatch them piecemeal. We use our arrows and our wits to thin their ranks. Then we finish this once and for all."
[before the party descends, Meneloss wants to retrieve the longspear from the other room. It will prove very useful fighting from the stairs.]
