"Madragar, Kyethe said there are fewer at the stone then down below. Does he know how far the two groups are sepparated? Is there another set of stairs between the two groups?

Re: *sniff* *sniff*.....what the hell is THAT?!
Kyethe squawks "One tree. No."

Madragar mentions that when Kyethe uses a "tree" as a unit of measurement it's usually around fifty or sixty feet. This is about the average height of the trees in the Cullwood where he and Madragar lived for many years.

Once More into the cliche
Meneloss looks at his companions with an earnest expression.

"Again we face Humakt's Oath together. Though we miss Yimris's brave spirit, I'm sure he watches us as well. We fight not for ourselves, but for all of Moagara. Whether we perish this day in this dark place or live, Yelm watches us and knows it is for the Lightbringers we do battle. My companions, my brothers, I am yet again humbled and honored to be among such noble folk."
Meneloss bows before the party.

"Atan, I believe an effective cue for our attack would be Madragar's Pyrotechnics. It will sow the most confusion amongst our foe, and Yelm willing will stir them to such fury that they may heedless assault our position here. However we attack let it be soon for I like not the sounds of that damned chanting, it is evil beyond our ken."

To the group he says

"Like all plans, this one will change as soon as the enemy are upon us. Remember your virtue and stay true to one another and we will overcome these beasts."

[ooc: GM it seems only you know our oil inventory. How many flasks are left? ]

Combustibles
Of the supplies that party members volunteered, this is what remains:

11 torches
6 flasks of oil
lantern
6 candles

Kezib says, "Well, if we are going the route of using bait, I volunteer myself. By Yelms grace I shall see the light of day when our time is done in here, but if not, then it shall be said that I did not shy away from death"

Re: ...
[this is the problem of appoining a 'caller.' When he is not posting (due to work in Maine) then nothing gets done. I'll take the momentary paralysis over voting on 'left or right' any day.]

Meneloss hands Madragar one of the firebombs. And says
"May fortune smile upon you... and us."

[ooc: OK lets make a real solid plan of action here fellas. 1) once the firebombs start burning the Broo, we should forray down to shoot those Broo which flee their defenses. 2)Madragar- Burning hands only has a 10' range, how are you going to get that close?
3)I think over thinking is not in our best interest. 4) Shooting them before we fight them is undoubtedly the best course of action.5) they already know we are here so total suprise is not going to work for us. So the question remains.... What Do we DO?]

Re: ...
[OOC: I personally thought the firebombing was a decent idea. Would there be any way that we could use the bird as the bomber? I would figure that the bird would be harder to his and much more manuverable. If the bird can carry the "bombs" that is.
I think, firebomb, then turn the broo into pincushins, then the remaining we wade into. Use the stairs to our advantage, they cant all come up at the same time, and might even take out some of their own by way of bloodlust.
Thats my thoughts.]

[Kyethe would rather take a bath in broo urine than carry a flaming flask of oil. -GM]

"I think that baiting the broo into attacking us on the step is our best plan," says Ruglan. "I would rather not use our torch oil as a weapon unless we absolutely have to."

Re: ...
"I should have the advantage of surprise," Madragar replies to Meneloss. They should not be expecting an attack from behind. It does beg the question of how close the barricades are to the far wall. I had assumed they were close, but that does need clarification."

"As for fighting here on the stairs, that requires that we alert the broo to our presence, negating any surprise and relying on their stupidity. That is, I believe, a recipe for our own deaths."

Turning back to his raven familiar, the bald mage says "Kyethe, how far is it from the beast-men at the wall to the downward tunnel?"

[OOC - underanalyzing isn't too good an idea, either. When we have the opportunity, we need to plan before running up to big groups of enemies and relying on the fallacy of "Scott won't kill us". He should and I've no doubt he will. He warned us that going to Old Kurlew would be very dangerous.]

Re: Repel the chaos scum!
[Indeed I did. The battle that downed Yimris was a softball.]

Kyethe scratches at Madragar's shoulder, which the wizard recognizes as the crow's word for "nothing" or "very little." Madragar interprets this to mean that the broo by the "stones" are very close to the side tunnel.

Re: ...
"Alert one group of Broo and we can expect the other larger group shortly there after. With numbers and a fairly intelligent leader, which there is bound to be a shaman type in this bunch, we would certainly lose in a standup brawl. So we need to put more advantages in our court. To do that we need information or risk moving blindly forward. So....here is what we can do for now." Atan guestures towards the pre-made oil bombs, "Prepare to defend the stairs, I am going to try and see what the situation is." He looks at the group for any serious discension, then sets down his pack, cinchs his armor straps and quiver down tight.

Bow in hand, but no arrow, Atan moves very cautiously down the stairs.

[Jubilex - I will move down the stairs very quietly until I can see this Broo band 2 trees away using cover and concealment as I can. I want to stay out of their visible light area if I can. (+8 move silent, +7 spot, +7 listen) ]

[OOC- Sorry, I was in Maine and then family stuff with funeral has kept me occupied. YT as well.]

Re: Repel the chaos scum!
Atan creeps down the stairs toward the dancing beams of lantern light. The tunnel itself is high enough that he can see into the large chamber before coming close enough to the lights to be seen by even the keen eyed broo.

Atan surveys a long hall perhaps sixty feet wide. The stairs descend into the chamber from the south and at the base of the stairs, and running north over one hundred feet, are many lit lanterns resting on the stone floor. At the northern most extremity of the lighted path is indeed a pile of stones and timbers - a makeshift barricade of sorts. It sits at an angle in front of an arched hallway in the eastern wall of the chamber.

The barricade is over one hundred feet from the bottom of the stairs and both it and the intervening hall are well lit by all the blazing oil lanterns. Atan can see a single broo slouching atop the barricade. It looks bored.

The hall extends beyond the barricade into darkness.

[I've emailed each of you a map.]

"Excellent," says Madragar. "I can enter, move up the wall, move along the wall above the torchlight and drop down behind the defenders. It may be reckless, but this whole affair is reckless, and we'll need an edge. I volunteer for this duty."

[OOC: Scott, the map sorta makes it look as though there are broo on our side of the wall. I'm relying on your description of Kyethe's and Atan's reconnaissances, which says only one broo is in sight, but that there are others behind the wall.]

Not Panama, but otherwise, a man and a plan.
"What of this plan?" says Madragar.

"I position myself as described and wait for your signal. The archers move in and keep the broo heads down. The warriors charge in, running for most of the distance, then moving in more cautiously. As soon as I see that, I shall descend behind them."

"With their attention drawn to the assault, I should be able to hit them with both the oil and the Efficacious Pyrotechnic Blade. With the havoc caused thereby, the warriors should be able to move in and kill the defenders. Then, at least, we will be able to seize the barricades and use them against the broo coming up from the tunnel. Trapped between us and the great door, they should be far easier to kill by archery."

We can be better than XMen 3!
Meneloss listens to Madragar's audacious plan and it appeals to his Elven impuses and bold nature. In as low a voice as can be heard by the mage he says

"You are indeed a brave man Madragar, this is an epic thing you propose. However your earlier sagaciousness was correct. We should plan our actions further. This sentry is not very alert, lets take more time to think this through. There was a tale I heard from Eol.

It was of a band of brothers. They were great heroes from the Elder days when such folk still roamed Moagara. Sons of a Lightbringer named Bjaen who fought alongside the very Gods which freed Yelm. The eight brothers were named Kjai, Loren, Greig, Duggan, Youan, Bellon, Figgni, and Bjaen the younger. Each brother posessed various powers:

Kjai could command winds to fly like a bird as Orlanth favored him.
Greig was a powerful warrior who could slay demons with a single sword stroke and Urox smiled upon him.
Duggan was also great for he too was favored by Urox and could beg boons from the God.
Youan was favored by Yelm and he could summon light from the Allfather and his skills in battle were furious like the blazing Sun.
Bellon was nimble and fast as gazelle. He was devoted Yelm and promised his lord he would wield no blade but fight with his hands and feet.
Figgni could blind his foes with the bright light of Yelm, which he could command to banish Chaos.
Bjaen the Younger was an archer without parallel. His eyes were sharper than the eyes of a hawk, his arrows could kill with a single shot a horizon's distance.

These brothers pursued a Chaos Demon Lord to his stronghold. It was only by each brother helping the other that they could overcome the defenses and slay the Demon Lord. Kjai bore aloft Bjaen the younger and his arrows killed many of the defenders while they were helpless to stop him. Bellon ran faster than any other and could always be at the right place to help his other brothers. Figgni rendered the Chaos Lord blind. His brothers Duggan and Yuan both called boons from the Gods to protect the group from the powers of Chaos. Greig took his mighty blade and beheaded the blind Chaos Lord, protected from his foe's wrath by a impenetrable suit of Dragon Scale."

He looks at his friends and says, "No one of us can do this. Alone we die like Yimris. Together and using our powers to compliment one another we can overcome any foe. We all have done it before."

He sips some water and continues in his hushed whisper

" Madragar, you should cast the climbing spell upon Atan. He can silently maneuver in the darkenss, and from a distance in the shadows, can slay many Broo with his arrows while they would be powerless to stop him. While they are being killed by a phantom, we approach as one solid wall of men.
Ruglan 'the Bull' Brooslayer takes the center. His shield and armor an anchor for our line. He is flanked by the faithful priests Sangraal on the left and Ruig on the right. Sangraal can call Blessings so our hearts are brave and our hands guided by Yelm's own. Ruig summons Urox's Fury and smites the miserable beasts with his righteous hammer.
I will wield the spear and cover Ruig, for I am tall enough to fight over him. I can also blind or render unconscious many Broo with my spells.
Draxim fires his crossbow from left, Sangraal's flank. When the enemy close they will regret so, for his biting axe with punish them mercilously. Madragar will fire his crossbow from the right flank. Once we are close to them, Kezib can hurl the firebombs. He is nimble and can throw things with accuracy.
This frees Madragar to immolate the Broo with his firey blade in the same moment as the oil soaks their fur. Once we are engaged, Kezib and Atan attack from the enemy's flanks.
In this way we fight our very best and either vanquish our enemy or perish knowing we died together. For now there is surely no turning back."

[ooc: Lets work as a team. If we stick together and try to hold a line, we can fight more effectively. Take advantage of attacks of opportunity and missile weapons. Lets Maximize our strengths and minimize our weaknesses. We wait to move until Atan kills the sentry. Draxim could probably help in this he could sneak down and take a long range shot. Between the two of them, that guard is dead meat. After that Atan starts killing them from the shadows while we advance unseen. Nobody should move faster than the Dwarves, no charging... Hold the Line!]

Re: Not Panama, but otherwise, a man and a plan.
Sangraal nods enthusiastically as Meneloss lays out his plan. Digging through his pack he produces 2 more bags of oil.
"By Yelms grace he lends me such stouthearted companions!" Meneloss, may I ask for my javelin if you will. I will have need of it in the coming fight." Sangraal requests of the elven mage.

"May Yelms light guide us all!" Sangraal addresses those around him, his voice confident and sure "...though I walk through the valley of death, I will fear no evil....."

[OOC: Sangraal has 2 more bags of oil for whoever wants to throw oil.]

Re: We can be better than XMen 3!
Nodding his head, Kezib says "This plan sounds good. May Yelm smile upon us within these hallowed halls of a fallen friend. Along side us, remains the spirit of Yimris, aiding us courage to fight as fierce as he. My knowledge of tactical fighting is limited, so I shall heed to those with this knowledge. Yet, let it be said, that I am honored to be among such men as you all, and may stories be told for eternity of our exploits within this mountain"
