Open the door
[Does it look as if the Broo tried to open the doors and where unsuccesful as well? any visible damage to the door?]

Re: Open the door
Getting a bit closer, Atan finds evidence that someone has tried to pry open the door. The narrow space between the door near the handle and the lintel is slightly marred and Draxim quickly surmises that they are marks indicative of a crowbar. The door itself, though made of oak, appears less damaged than the stone lintel. Hmm...

Re: Open the door
"Atan, we should get Madragar or the Snake-Bearer. This door smells like magic to me."

He begins looking for a more sophisticated way of opening the door, since broote (heh) force clearly didn't work.

"If I could lift the great hammer and chisel of Koreaus, I would make short work of this door," he mumbles as he searches

Re: Open the door
Meneloss' sensitive elven ears hear Draxim mention his name. He signals Kezib over to relay a message to the Atan and Draxim:
"I can try to detect magic on the door."

After the bald monk pads off to tell the others his message, Meneloss keeps his vigil litening and peering off into the gloom.

Re: Open the door
Atan takes a step back from the door to stand next to Madragar. "What to you make of this door? Is it magicked?.", he says at the instant Kezib returns with the message from Meneloss.

Grasping the Monks shoulder in comraderie, "Wait here for a moment. If Madragar cannot open this, then you take Meneloss' place and send him over here."

Re: Open the door
Madragar examines the door with mundane eyes for a few moments. Then he pronounces an eldritch phrase the causes his eyes to glow with an inner light.

Detect Magic.

Re: Open the door
Draxim makes the sign to ward off the evil eye, then catches himself and flushes in embarassment.

Re: Open the door
Madragar's incantation is brief, and for a moment his eyes glow with orange flourescence. After staring intently at the door for several seconds he nods. Magic.

[Note to Madragar.]

Re: Open the door
Madragar confirms what was assumed about the door was correct, sorcery sealed. "Alright Kezib, go grab Meneloss and take his position by the wetern entrance."

When Meneloss returns to the group by the door, Atan points his finger and fans it in an arc to encompass the three spell casters close by, Madragar, Meneloss and Sangraal. Displaying his ignorance of the arcane arts, "How do we open that door?"

Re: Open the door
"That is an art I do not possess," says Madragar. "Though perhaps Draxim may be able to suggest something. A word of caution, however. Although the sorcery here may merely seal the door, I believe it to be enchanted with a trap. Whomever touches it should be most cautious, and all other should be at a distance."

[Madragar, while he has detect magic, turns in a slow circle, observing the room, his companions and nearby hallways.

Re: Open the door
"I cannot disarm a magical trap. If I had enough time and a set of the finest tools, perhaps. But as it is it would be pointless for me to even try."

[Can I take 20 when disabling device?]

Re: Open the door
[You can't take 20 on anything for which there might be a negative consequence, like setting off a trap.]

Madragar scans the room, hallway and his companions. The only other glint of magic in the northern hallway can be seen at the far end of the hall in the other alcove. Although he cannot see the door itself, Madragar's enchanted vision pierces the darkness and reveals that it too is sheathed in protective magic.

Re: Open the door
Placing his hand on Madragar's elbow he orients him back towards the main guest hall. In a hurried whisper, "Can you check the southern corridor, see if the doors there are the same? Draxim go with him."

Atan heads back out into the hall and drags the rest of the party with him. "If both doors are locked as well then we can move deeper into the mountain."

As the party mills and Madragar and Draxim investigate, Atan takes a moment to scan the guest hall.

Re: Open the door
Draxim accompanies Madragar warily. He keeps his senses peeled and walks just ahead of the mage as quietly as possible. His crossbow is loaded and ready.

Re: Open the door
"If these doors are sealed by sorcery" Sangraal whispers " then how did the Broo get deeper into the mountain? There must be another way."
"We can be assured that at least the doors prevented the desecration of the rooms behind them."

Re: Open the door
When Meneloss returns to the group surrounding the door, he agrees with Madragar, "I too have no spells which may avail us of this magiked door." He adds "I am not sure that they are trapped though. There is no sign of fire or blade to idicate thus. If Draxim can try to open the lock he may be successful without dire consequence."

"We should try the other doors, if they are not magiked then we must explore them."

Re: Open the door
Madragar checks the two doors along the southern corridor and finds that they, too, are protected by magic.

Re: Open the door
"Meneloss may be right," says Madragar. All that I am sure of is the sort and strength of the magic. Either they are trapped by sorcery or they are held fast by it. Which it is must be the demesne of the good Draxim."

"Note, my friend," he says to the dwarf, "that it is not yet necessary to disarm such a trap. If your skills may find such a thing, that will advance our knowledge."

With that, Madragar himself peers closely at all parts of the door, seeking if by some chance he can help Draxim discover any trap upon the door.

Re: Open the door
Draxim and Madragar examine the door as closely as they can without setting off any potential traps. There is no obvious locking mechanism, only a fairly simple, horizontal iron handle.

Madragar has dim memories of staying overnight in this area of the fortress, though it was one of the rooms off the southern hallway. He cannot recall these doors being locked magically when he and Edrigan made their visit. That was, however, years ago.

Re: Open the door or not
Meneloss in low tones adds his opinion:

"If these doors are magically locked, then they are not likely home to Broo. I believe we can safely ignore these rooms until later. Let's explore the great hall with the assumption that this area is secured. We can try to open these portals later, after we finish the task at hand. Let's continue our search for any remaing Broo and that infernal Legionaire."

[ooc: Both hallways have been explored and the doors are magically locked right? Let's keep moving]
