Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Quote: It really won't be that hard to coordinate several party members throwing unlit flasks in the same round. Also Madragar can cast Burning Hands on the Broo after they have been hit the same round.
Nuh-uh! No way I'm getting within 10' of alerted broo!
Quote: Is there something about this spell I don't know? The area of effect and the damage are not that great if I recall correctly but if someone can point out a tactical advantage I am open to hear it.
Burning Hands does little damage. But it has a wide arc of effect. It lights flammable objects, and oil definitely qualifies. Oil does a lot of damage -and- burns for several rounds. Burning Hands is a much more effective way to set the whole bunch alight than a torch, which must get them one by one.

Re: Operation Sneaky Fire
"I tire of this," says Madragar. "I believe you are wrong, and perhaps fatally so. But any chance at victory lies in a coordinaed plan enacted soon. So if you are all committed to this plan, then I will accede to it."
"Let us have done with talking while the world falls down our ears, and if fate awaits us, let us go to meet it."

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Ruig laughs and slaps Madragar hard on the shoulder.
"Grow a beard young man. You would make an excellent dwarf! How much time would you need, Atan, to get into position? Five minutes?"
[Now is the time to explain your plan in detail. Anyone who has something they want to do before the shooting starts had better do it now.]

Re: Operation Sneaky Fire
Madragar will (quietly) intone the eldritch syllables of the Charm of Arcane Shielding .
(Mage Armor)
Then he will take a few moments to rub some of the naptha from a torch head onto the head of a crossbow quarrel, wrap that quarrel in a thin and tight layer of cloth, and soak the cloth liberally with oil.
Whenever the teams is ready, he will crush the dried leg of a locust over Atan's boots and whisper the Charm of Climbing.
(Spider Climb)
Standing and looking the warrior in the eye, he says "Good luck. Don't miss."

[ooc: Which is why you should use it to light the oil after we toss it in a coordinated effort...]
Meneloss says to Atan "If from your perch you see odds which we cannot possibly overcome, return. We will keep a watch on the Sentry from the Shadows. After we see your arrows strike true, we will advance."
Meneloss waiots for Atan to scurry off for a minute or two, then he will cautiosly advance to the step from where Atan had previously espied the Sentry. After Atan shoots the Sentry, Meneloss gives the signal for the party to advance.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Atan energy level picks up dramatically at the debates conclusion, "Five minutes should be enough. I intend to shoot the sentry, but I may shift to any spellcasters, leaders or broo with missile weapons. If I can see a spellcaster in the chamber with the sealed door I may move in there to kill him first. Just watch for the Broo to start acting then move into the hall. Sangraal, Ruig, Meneloss, Ruglan, Draxim, Madragar, Kezib. In that order down the stairs, first four of you are the main line. Draxim, Madragar provide crossbow fire. Kezib gets a torch and the bag of oil flasks. Once down, hug the right wall up to the barrier. If I can't get the Broo to come out use the oil to light the barricade. Be sure no matter what happens you all anchor the line against a wall or the barricade to keep us from getting flanked. Don't hold anything back waiting for a better target, if you got it use it cause I think we are kicking a big nest of 'em."
Atan points to his pack, "I got a healing kit in there so don't forget it if you need it."
[Atan will stay just outside the visible light on the right side (east?) of the wall and move very cautiously. He will try and look into the chamber with the sealed. He is looking for any special targets of opportunity (spellcaster/leaders) as mentioned above. If he does not locate any he will start with the sentry. +8 hide, +8 move silently, +6 spot, +6 listen]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
With Madragar's enchantment coursing through his veins, and his hands and feet suddenly adhering to sheer surfaces, Atan climbs up the wall and out of sight. A few minutes pass as the elf makes the unfamiliar journey through the dark upper reaches of the tunnel and into the chamber beyond.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Meneloss watches the broo sentry as it lounges on the makeshift barricade, its spear propped against the stone wall nearby. Minutes tick by as the group of humans and dwarves behind him twitch and fidget impatiently. Finally, something happens.
Meneloss sees a flash of motion descend from the deep shadows near the roof of the hall and streak down toward the broo. The object, presumably Atan's arrow, strikes a chunk of stone directly behind the broo with a loud CLACK. The broo yelps and leaps to its feet on the south side of the barricade. Its head swings from side to side as it readies its wicked longspear. For the moment the broo doesn't seem to know what happened.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
As Meneloss tensely waits to see what happens next, Sangraal suddenly loses his balance and nearly falls over. The priest's hand grasps at Ruglan's shoulder as he tries to steady himself, and within his steel helm Sangraal's eyes stare blankly. Ruig steps in quickly to hold him up, and a few seconds later Sangraal suddenly recovers. Shaking his head he stands up straight again and waves off the concerned looks of his comrades.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Meneloss, not aware of Sangraal's momentary lapse, hisses 'he missed' a fraction of a second before another arrow streaks down from above and strikes the wary broo in the top of its right shoulder. The creature utters a long howl and staggers against the stone barricade. Dropping its spear it begins clambering over the barrier. Yet another arrow descends from the darkness but buries itself uselessly in a wooden beam protruding up from the barricade.
[The signal, it seems, has been given...]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Madragar, almost at the back of the party, sees Sangraal's near-collapse and immediately suspects foul play. He looks sharply about for any sign of anyone who could have subjected the Yelmite priest to an enchantment.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Madragar searches his surroundings but it is simply too dark for him to see much more than those people standing right next to him. With Ruig's lantern extinguished the only light reaching the step on which the group is clustered is the lantern light coming up from the chamber below.

[Kezib is holding a lantern, correct? Sorry, been kinda busy at work, but I need to know so as to light the "bombs"]
[Kezib has a torch but it is currently unlit. -GM]
[Ok, anyone have a lit torch?]

Something's Rotten in the State of Denmark!
Refusing to believe that Sangraal's lapse could be natural, Madragar turns and unleashes the Fundamental Invocation of the Arcane. His eyes come alive with an eerie pale glow.

The tatooed wizard scans the area... down the tunnel, up the tunnel, walls, ceiling, steps. There is no trace of magic anywhere within 60' of Madragar.

Hmmm.
Almost, he speaks the words of the Minor Aspect of Luminescence, but instead he remains alert, particularly looking behind them with his arcane senses, and waits for the signal to go.
