Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Having received the signal to advance (Atan's shot at the sentry) Draxim begins to advance with the rest of his compatriots, in the agreed upon formation. "Now these broo will get a lovely bite of righteousness," he says as he loads his crossbow.

Hes here....
"Elkhead" Sangraal gasps as he struggles to catch himself. " Hes here and hes found what hes been looking for. We must hurry." Shaking his head he attempts to clear his vision and stay in formation.
"It is time. lets go!"

[OOC: Sangraal moves forward keeping in formation with Ruglan. and will attack the first broo that come in range.]

The Plan...
Sangraal begins his descent of the stairs and the rest of the group is right behind him. The flail-swinging priest rushes into the dancing orange lantern light, eager to come to grips with his hated foe. The advance quickly becomes a maddened charge and the dwarves must run to keep up with their fleet-footed companions.

The rushing feet and clicking armor of the advancing host catches the attention of the wounded broo as it desperately claws its way over the barricade. Two more broo pop up from behind the wall of stone and stare stupidly at the charging knot of warriors bearing down upon them.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Madragar advances at a half-run, staying immediately behind the person in front of him. He moves directly to the nearest lamp, lights his cloth-and-oil covered crossbow tip and continues moving forward, returning to his place in the formation.

The Plan...gives us something to deviate from.
Out of the inky darkness, "A dozen more around the corner. Take the barricade." The muffled twang of a bowstring and another arrow streaks from the ceiling.

[At broo #3 who is looking at the party +5 to hit (don't know if he is flatfooted)/2d6 dmg]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
[When a battle starts everyone is flat-footed. The party took actions in the Surprise Round so only the broo remain flat-footed.]

Another arrow strikes down from on high, burying itself in the broo's neck [#3]. The thing screams, clutching at the missile while blood squirts around the quivering shaft.

Ruig huffs and puffs his way down the hall. "I'd sell my mother for the legs of an elf. Close the distance, Ruglan. Run!"

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Ruglan bolts forward, trying to close the distance between the party and the broo at the barricade.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Ruglan and Ruig surge ahead, running hell for leather at the barricade. Ruglan reaches it first and takes a swing at the wounded, crawling broo but the thing hurls itself over the edge of the barricade and lands on the hard stone floor beyond. Ruig's last few steps carry him up the side of the stone obstruction where he brandishes his warhammer, daring any of the broo to face him. The grizzled dwarf does, however, blanche when he catches sight of what is beyond the barricade.

[For the sake of simplicity, here's what he sees:]

There is a short, downward sloping tunnel that leads from the barricade to a large circular chamber, perhaps one hundred feet in diameter. The room is poorly lit, the broo apparently devoting most of their light sources to hall with the barricade. In the center of the chamber is an immense circular portal set into the floor. It must be fifty feet in diameter and is covered with a multitude of intricate carvings and inscriptions. All around the edge of the portal are piles of rough stone.

Most importantly, however, a single boulder the size of an ox cart rests near the center of the disk. Dozens of thickly braided ropes are lashed around it and an even dozen broo are chanting as they pull at the immense weight. Ha-ruum... Ha-ruum...

There are two other shapes in the room. One wields a whip and cracks it over the heads of its fellow broo, keeping the laborers working. The other skulks in the deep shadows that crawl along the surface of the giant stone disk. It is large, swift, and sports a rack of black antlers.

[So...]

One of the sentry broo (#3) makes a half-hearted retreat, clearly confused or perhaps just groggy after being so rudely awoken. With another wounded sentry hiding behind the barricade, the remaining broo (#2) quickly reaches down behind the stone wall and hefts a thick javelin which it hurls at Ruglan. The deft warrior knocks the missile aside easily with his shield.

In the chamber beyond the barricade the chanting has ceased, replaced by a clamor of enraged broo sounds. A whip cracks and the chanting begins again, though not quite as loudly as before, but considerably higher tempo. Some of the broo break away from their labor, grab weapons and advance. The rest continue to haul at the boulder.

[Combat map changed.]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Draxim advances quickly, and splits to the left slightly. He wears a puzzled expression at the precipitous rush to melee of his camrades, completely ignoring the plan to hang back and pepper them with arrows as long as possible. Now the broo will have the fight on their terms. He shakes his head sorrowfully, and runs as fast as he can to catch up with the others.

[diagonal left 5 feet, then straight forward 75]

[I am not having the combat map problem]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Kezib will rush up next to Ruig, light the oil and throw at broo #3.

[How much oil does Kezib plan to throw? A single flask? -GM]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
[I am having a map problem, It shows only Ruig and Ruglan and Atan on the barricade. How did these slowest party members get past everyone else?]

Meneloss curses as well upon hearing Draxim's rumblings. "We are dead for sure..." He mutters as he runs to catch up with the warriors on the barricade. He stands a square behing Ruig and sets the spear to recieve charge.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
[Atan said to move up cause he thought he saw an oppurtunity to get an advantage. The barricade should provide cover (+2 or +4 to AC depending) and gives us something to anchor to.]

"Kezib, torch the far side of the barricade! Make them climb over it to get at us!"

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
[You are out of your mind. Burning the same Barricade we are defending?!]

Meneloss hears the insanity and shouts to Kezib "No! Burn the Broo, not the barricade!"

[There must be some game mechanics I'm missing. How did the two characters with a 20' move wind up 80' ahead of the whole party?
At any rate I looked at where I want to be which is: between Ruig and Ruglan, 1 square south of Ruglan 1 square West of Ruig.]

Quit going first!
[OOC: Lets try and stick with our initive guys. It sucks for the people who have paid points or used feats for the special initive bonuses only to see the slowest characters go first. That being said, Sangraal goes last.]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
[Hey lets still try to take advantage of attacks of opportunity rather than giving the enemy AoO. So once we form up, let's not charge to our Individual deaths but rather fight as a TEAM]

Meneloss, breathless after sprinting to the barricade, says to Ruig and Ruglan, "Wait for the others, let's move as one!"
