[Hmm I guess I still don't get the new game mechanics. O well Fuck it! At least if Ruglan and Ruig hold action until after the Broo, They won't charge up and get surrounded... But who am I to try and check the righteous fury of a Urox priest and Ruglan the Brooslayer?]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Kezib readies a flask of oil, but he must run to even reach the barricade so doesn't have time to throw it. Madragar, Meneloss, and Sangraal all advance quickly to the barricade.

Ruig whips a thick handled throwing axe from his belt and hurls it at the retreating broo (#3). The weapon strikes the bleeding creature in the small of its back, severing its spine. The broo doesn't even have time to scream.

The grinning dwarf hops back down behind the barricade. "Got one."

Plans change
A slight buzzing noise announces the arrival of another arrow from above followed by a voice tinged with irritation, "NO! Kezib throw burning oil to the left of the barricade!"

[Shoot Broo #1 +5 to hit/2d6dmg]

[To clarify, take the barricade means hold it. Don't charge over the barricade, use it to give you cover from the mass of Broo coming. Put flaming oil at the corner of the barricade to prevent the Broo from going around it, this will make them climb over it giving us AC and to hit bonuses. If you can get some broo(#2 maybe?) in the process great.]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
The prone, wounded broo will rise no more. Atan's arrow pierces the back of its neck, nailing it to the stone floor.

[Actually, as you well know Nolan, AOO may happen if they have reach such as a spear, and you use a melee weapon.

Meneloss you can run full out at significant combat minuses up to 4X your normal movement. ]

and then there was light
Shifting his flail to his gauntleted hand Sangraal slides a bronze disk the width of an apple from his pouch.
"A weapon to fight chaos, a gift of Jharal, Hegi called it" recalls Sangraal.
The disk is covered with strange inscriptions and a bold relief of a shining sun.

Taking a knee Sangraal invokes the magic etched onto the bronze disk.
"....and the bringer sprung forth, carried on high by the child Orlanth, Urox and Humakt. The demons cowered and wailed as Yelm took his place in the sky. And there was light..."

[OOC: Sangraal takes cover behind the barricade ( AC bonus?) and reads the scroll Daylight 10 minutes: onto the head of his flail.]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
"Everyone!" shouts Ruglan, "Shift to the left!" Ruglan takes a few side-steps to the left. "Set up the line to keep them from getting past the barricade!" Ruglan will wait to strike until a broo gives him a good opening.

[Very good. In game mechanic-speak that's "holding an action to attack any broo that comes within Ruglan's threat range, which is 5'." -GM]

Re: and then there was light
Ruglan slides left to cover the open side of the barricade while Sangraal swiftly advances to fill his spot on the line, his hand tracing the unfamiliar patterns on Hegi's bronze disk.

The broo howl in rage and cackle their insane hyena laughter as they charge the barricade. Three of the beasts bound atop the pile of stones with animal quickness, pressing the center of the line. Meneloss jabs his broo spear at one as it brandishes a rusted battleaxe, tearing open the thing's thigh from knee to hip. Blood pours from the wound, driving the broo into a homicidal fury (#10).

To the left, two more broo try to round the barricade but Ruglan is there to meet them. With a badly damaged longsword raised high above its head (probably a trophy from some dead Merek Lek) the broo charges. Ruglan lashes out at the snarling beast at the perfect moment (20!). His sword pierces through the broo's jaw, up through its palate, and pushes bits of its tiny brain through the top of its skull. The creature's feet don't get the signal that it's dead, causing the corpse to run its way down to the hilt of Ruglan's sword. The blood covered watchman kicks the twitching sack of meat off his blade.

Atan nearly falls off his perch when a piece of the wall on which he clings explodes into dust just inches from his right hand. Peeking around the corner into the hall, the elf can see the whip-wielding overseer placing another stone in its leather sling. Atan is certain this creature is like no broo he has ever seen. Unlike the matted black fur of the hyena broo, this one is sleek and grey, more canine, like the swift racing dogs kept by the Olmani tribesmen. It is noticably smaller than the other broo, but quick, and somehow more controlled... almost calm. What catches Atan's attention most are the thing's eyes. They gleam with a sickly yellow glow. Though Atan is sure he is high enough on the wall to be completely concealed from the broo below, this one seems able to see him clearly.

Suddenly a blast of light fills the area, bright as the noon-day sun. Sangraal's flail shines like a fiery beacon in the deep halls of the mountain. The light is so intense that Draxim, Madragar, Kezib and Atan (the only ones in a position to see it directly) are nearly blinded, their eyes having long since adjusted to the dim torchlight. For the broo, it is infinitely worse. As one they scream in horror and recoil before the light of their nemesis, the sun.

Re: and then there was light
Madragar will move to stand shoulder to shoulder between Sangraal and
Meneloss. Then he'll wind up and hurl the oil in an arc at the pack of
broo hauling the boulder.

Re: and then there was light
Seventy feet is quite a distance, and Madragar hooks his throw (or is it a slice?), sending the flask of oil somewhere into the shadows to the left of the broo.

Re: and then there was light
Kezib, seeing the broo advancing will throw the oil at the feet of broo #7, after lighting it, in hope to spread the oil out a bit to deter the other two broo from trying to advance any further.

Re: and then there was light
Draxim fans out away from the barricade putting ten feet between himself and the muderous watchman with true striking blade. He knows that now no broo could run between them without one of them getting a shot at it. He attempts to take advantage of the scalding light of Yelm and fires at the broo rounding the barricade.

[move nw nw n. fire crossbow at broo #4. +5 to hit 1d8 +1 damage. +1d6 damage if sneak attack applies due to blindness.]

Re: and then there was light
Meneloss drops the filth broospear and draws his clean Elven blade. He stabs upwards at the wounded Broo (#10).

(+1 to hit: str/+2 Damage str, favored enemy/+1 AC -expertise-)

[I don't have a book here, but if drawing a weapon does trigger an AoO I won't drop the spear but step 5' back and still attack Broo #10]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Kezib lights the oil soaked rag and hurls the flamable package at the nearest broo. [Kezib isn't in a good position to throw it at #7 so he throws it at #13 instead.] Sadly the monk's aim is as bad as Madragar's and the oil bursts uselessly in a fiery spray several feet beyond the barricade.

Draxim sidesteps the bloodsoaked Ruglan and puts a crossbow bolt into a big, glaive swinging beast as it rounds the barricade. The creature grunts, but otherwise shows little sign that it felt the missile enter its abdomen.

Dropping his borrowed spear, Meneloss draws his shining elvish blade with a flourish. A quick, simple stab cuts a chunk of meat out of the broo's left breast but the creature merely snarls and raises its axe.

[Ya never need the book at work. Just check the SRD:]

www.opengamingfoundation.org/srd.html

[Drawing a weapon does not provoke an AoO:]

Quote:
Draw a weapon [Move Equivalent][AoO: No]

Description: If a character has a base attack bonus of +1 or higher, a character can combine one of these actions with a regular move. If a character has the Two-Weapon Fighting feat, a character can draw two light or one-handed weapons in the time it would normally take a character to draw one.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Perched sixty feet in the air, his butt resting on the heels of his feet which are flat against the smooth rockwall, he had been drawing an arrow when the sling bullet struck near his right hand (which was pretty close to his head). Flinching involuntarily, he almost loses his grip on the stone forcing him to reach out with his right hand to steady himself. Quickly leaning forward he looks aound the corner of the wall at the dog-headed Broo then back down to his comrades engaged in melee.

[Which Broo are actually in melee with characters right now?]

[Any broo which are adjacent to a PC. Right now it looks like only #10. -GM]
