Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
Meneloss forgoes throwing the javelin. He advances to form up with the line. Standing between Ruglan and Ruig he holds his sword in front of him ready to strike any Broo who approach.
Seeing his dazed and bloodied friend rise from near-death, Meneloss smiles and thanks Urox "Storm Bull we are grateful!"

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
"Indeed," says Madragar, coughing, rising and stepping back. "My thanks to Urox and his servant."
"Ruglan is right," he says. "They must be...<wheeze>... stopped. I have oil for any that thinks they can use it."
He retrieves his crossbow, finds that the lit bolt has guttered and gone out, and simply strips the bolt of the cloth.
[Madragar takes up a position behind the main line and waits, crossbow in hand. His heroics, such as they were, are over for the day.]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
[There is no space for Meneloss to fit between Ruglan and Ruig, but he does fill the space evacuated by Madragar.]
Draxim reloads his crossbow, advances down the corridor a bit, and fires at one of the broo (#12). The bolt buries itself in the broo's side, staggering the creature but it is far from falling.
While the crowd of broo continue to push the boulder, and one scurries off to try and extinguish its flaming hands, Gulkhu and the jackal-headed broo shout back and forth to each other over the din of battle.
"Kal rashalan, Gulkhu," the jackal hisses. Then, pointing up to where Atan is making his way along the wall, "Gyruul havragash ev'galach Merek Lek!"
Gulkhu, its fiery eyes gleaming in the flickering lantern light, swings its massive head from side to side. The beast's rack of twisted black antlers gleam in the darkness as the Dark Eye turns to the boulder, the advancing sunlanders, and back to the boulder.
"Kraas!" Gulkhu bellows, and the broo stop their labors. "Harar valuun, nar!"
The broo emerge from behind the boulder, draw their weapons, and charge.

Hip deep in the broo kaka.
[Technically you can only charge in a straight line, but the broo have more than enough movement to clamber over the boulder and reach the party's line.]
The broo charge forward with all the power they can muster. Seven slavering, hyena-headed beasts with their pitted, primitive weapons surge against the sunlander battle line followed by the jackal and the mighty Gulkhu. They howl in rage and terror as they approach Sangraal's hated light, but it is clear they fear Gulkhu even more than the merciless sun.
Meneloss and Ruglan lash out with their keen edged blades as the tide of fur and muscle reaches them. For once, Ruglan misjudges the distance and his attack misses by a hair. Meneloss manages to get his blade past the creature's outstreatched shortspear and cuts into its left shoulder (#15). Then, the pack is upon them.
Meneloss' wounded adversary pushes through his guard and jabs the elf in the chest with its shortspear. The elf's armor takes most of the blow. Ruglan, too, is caught off balance by the sudden rush and feels the bite of the broo's axe against his sword arm, followed by the hot trickle of blood.
Another broo crashes into the line, nearly knocking Ruig over with the power of its attack. The dwarf gets his guard up in time, but can't keep the murderous axe from opening up another wound in his shoulder. Ruig is bleeding from several wounds and is weaving unsteadily.
One courageous creature hurls itself at Sangraal, though the thing can't look directly at the priest. Not surprisingly its attack is wild and inaccurate.
The remaining broo pile in behind their brethren, though generally shying away from Sangraal's dazzling flail.
One broo, wielding a huge, two-handed mace (#6), tries to turn the corner on Ruglan and bashes the watchman's shield with the big crushing weapon. Another broo runs past Ruglan (but outside his threat range) and puts its spear in Draxim's belly. The dwarf dodges backward far enough to keep from being impaled, but blood begins to flow freely from the wound.
The jackal-headed broo advances with the howling pack, but stops short of joining the melee. Taking aim at the wall-climbing ranger, it sends a sling stone speeding his direction. Atan loses the missile in the intervening darkness and the spinning chunk of lead smashes into the small of his back, nearly knocking him off the wall altogether.
Gulkhu advances and with his wicked spear held high drives it down toward the embattled Ruig. The dwarf ducks low and narrowly avoids having his brains pushed through the back of his head.
Combat map updated.

Re: Hip deep in the broo kaka.
[The broo charged, so they have the corresponding AC modifier. Also, Sangraal's Daylight reduces their AC, not to mention their accuracy.]
Sangraal flails away with possibly the most inaccurate, unsubtle attack of his short life but his opponent, nearly blinded by the glowing flail, simply stands there and takes it. The flail strikes the furry beast right in the temple. The broo's eyes go wide as its brain rattles around inside the its head like a bug in a jar. The broo (#5) staggers back out of the line and falls to the ground.
The Brother of Dawn howls like a mad man as he strikes again and again at the nearest enemy. The broo (#15), already wounded by Meneloss' attack, raises its spear in defense but Sangraal drives it into the ground with a flurry of hammerblows. Bits of flesh and bone fragments are dashed to the cold earth.
[Sheesh...]
[Note that broo #5 is not dead, but Sangraal did 95% of its HP in a single hit so it'll be sitting down for a while. Broo #5 is now 5' to the east/right of its previous location and effectively helpless.]

Re: Hip deep in the broo kaka.
Ruglan, anchoring the end of the line, recovers from the brutal attack and draws his blade across the belly of one broo (#12). The thing howls in agony but steadies itself for another attack.

Ducking the wild swinging flail of Sangraal the Mighty, Meneloss steps into the space where the unfortunate Broo had been knocked out of (#5)
Instantly, he produces a pinch of colored powder and blasts the Broo Line with a multi-hued display of intense color
[Color Spray at 8,14,12 and hopefully Gulkhu, Meneloss casts Defensively Concentration +8]

Re: Hip deep in the broo kaka.
Gritting through the pain in his back, "Stinking piece of Broo dung!". He stops on the wall, realizing that he can't reach the safety of the floor without giving this dog-faced chaos spawn another shot, Atan repositions so his weight is resting on his feet and unlimbers his bow. Drawing the arrow back, he focuses on the dog face broo amongst the hyena heads.....and fires.
[+5 to hit/2d6 dmg]

Dogboy Vs. Dogface
Quote: The broo (#15), already wounded by Meneloss' attack, raises its spear in defense but Sangraal drives it into the ground with a flurry of hammerblows.
[So Broo #15 is probably not good to attack right now. Throwing anything to screw with Dogface (AKA Chaos Death Monk w/ sling) would help; oil, knife, rocks, your bra.]

[DOH!! Good point, been one of those hellish afternoons that we all dream of. Instead of Kezib attacking #15, Kezib will:]
Light another flask and throw it at the dog faced broo.

Re: Dogboy Vs. Dogface
[Broo #15 is, in fact, a broken sack of broo meat at Sangraal's feet.]
Meneloss maneuvers to his right, trying to elude the watchful gaze of a glaive-wielding creature nearby (#14). The wizard fails, however, to keep his eye on his material components and tries to cast his spell not with a pinch of multi-colored sand but with a pinch of lint. Not surprisingly the incantation is a failure.
Atan props himself against a break in the smooth surface of the wall, draws an arrow to his ear and fires. The missile tears a bit of flesh off the thing's arm, slipping past the broo's attempts to block it. The jackal is not distracted enough by the arrow to be hit by Kezib's flaming flask of oil. The beast dodges to the side, the monk's projectile sailing off into the chamber.

Draxim breifly looks at the wound in his belly unbelievingly. "No!" he shouts. "You will not!"
He drops his crossbow pulls his axe. he steps up to #9 and against the wall (5 foot step diagonally so no AOO thank you) and aims a mighty 2-handed swing at the chaos beast.

Re: Dogboy Vs. Dogface
Madragar scans the battle line for some gap to fire through and, turning to his left, spots a spear wielding brute jab furiously at Draxim. At this range even a wizard can't miss and the bolt strikes the broo in the chest, breaking right through one of its ribs.
Draxim doesn't give the thing a chance to recover. As the broo staggers back from the powerful hit he lunges forward with his battleaxe a'swinging.
[I think Draxim is only +4 damage. Using a Medium weapon two handed gives an extra 50% damage, rounding down. Yet, the point is moot...]
Draxim chops into the broo's neck like he's chopping wood. The creature's head seperates from its body resulting in a veritable fountain of blood which steams off the cold stone wall.

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
[Atan is not as wounded as he was a moment ago. I thought Slings did 1D6 damage instead of 1D4. Atan is now only lightly wounded.]
Ruig swings desperately at the surrounding broo, but is simply too fatigued from battle and loss of blood to connect.
The broo fight on despite the reduction in their numbers and the blazing light of Yelm in their midst, driven on by the exortations of Gulkhu.
On the left, the club swinging monster continues its rampage against Ruglan. Big chunks of the watchman's shield explode outward from the mighty weapon, but for the moment Ruglan stands firm. Another broo tries to take advantage of the distraction and hack at him from the left, but Ruglan parries that attack as well.
The jackal headed broo drops its sling and charges in against Draxim. The beast makes a flurry of jabs with its fists, but Draxim narrowly dodges each attack. The dwarf does notice, however, a gleaming ring on each of the broo's hands. They look like they might be bladed.
Suddenly the center of the line strains against the weight of the surging broo... buckles... and collapses. Ruig is hit in the neck by a big rusted battleaxe and goes down in a shower of blood. A glaive wielding creature leaps through the gap and, choking up on its weapon, stabs furiously at Sangraal. It is only the blinding light of his flail that keeps Sangraal from a mortal belly wound.
At the end of the battle line, Meneloss feels very exposed. With his spell failure at such a critical moment in the battle, and no room to retreat, he grips his sword tightly as scans for adversaries... and finds Gulkhu. The enormous broo stands over eight feet tall hoof to antler, and stares down the elf with eyes blazing. Snarling with menace totally alien to normal elk, Gulkhu roars in raw, primal rage. Meneloss never thought the monster could get any bigger or more menacing, but it seems to. Muscles rippling, saliva dripping from razor sharp teeth, Gulkhu drops its spear, lowers its head, and charges.
Against the dagger-tipped hedge of black, twisted antlers Meneloss has little defense. There is no weapon to parry, only the irresistable animal fury of a charging stag. The elf is driven back against the wall, his torso pierced in a half dozen places. Sangraal looks on in horror as Gulkhu drags its antlers up and down Meneloss' body raising deep, ragged wounds where ever they touch flesh.
Gulkhu jumps back from the bloody ruin of Meneloss' body, allowing the elf to drop to the blood soaked floor.
[Meneloss is conscious, barely, and can take a partial action each round. Ruglan is now flanked.]
Combat Map.
[Anyone, go.]
