move out
Atan nods in agreement with Meneloss and whisper, "Just more doors to open later once we clear this place. If everyone is ready......I intend to move us back to the main entrance hall and deeper into the mountain. Draxim you scout ahead since you can see in total darkness. Hundred feet should be far enough, fall back if you see any light sources other then ours or if you find anything of interest. Meneloss, give your torch to Kezib and take rear guard. Not too far from us. Just fall back everyonce ina while and listen. Standard marching order."

Atan watches Draxim scurry off into the dark giving him enough time to take an advance postion before moving the rest of the party forward.

[Jubilex - Head west back past the secret door and hang a right into the main entrance hall.]

Re: move out
Meneloss nods acknowledging Atan. He hands off the torch to the monk. He makes sure that the ladder is taken with the party however:

"There may be more stairs, or other reasons to reach high places, Kezib, Madragar keep the ladder with us."

As the group passes the secret door he also mentions:

"I believe we should close this door, lest some skulker slips by us and gains access to our sanctuary."

[I did not read that the door was closed: Now it is...]

Re: move out
"Yes, bring the ladder. We will need it when we find the main stairs down."

[The secret door should be closed. We did that when we came out.]

Re: support
"I will need to unburden myself somewhat if you wish me to move quietly through the darkness."

He takes Yimris backpack (4lbs.) and puts in the 4 iron spikes(4lbs.), and his remaining 7 torches (7lbs.) He adds Yimris's winter clothes (7lbs.). He then removes the bundle of armor that was Yimris' as well (20lbs.). He drops the 50 feet of rope on top of the pile (10lbs.), THEN he scurries off down the corridor. Although hopefully no one will hear him in his scurrying (Move Silently +5) He will keep his eyes and ears peeled and pay particular attention to the stonework looking for changes, or anomalies.

"Draxim, we will put this in pile out of the way here in the entrance hall. Unless you see a reason to bring all this stuff along?"

The Hall of the Mountain Grill
Draxim stores his extra equipment behind the secret door and makes sure the massive slab is shut tight. Moving ahead of the group he does his best to remain silent, his dwarven eyesight scanning his surroundings in familiar black and white. Draxim moves ahead of the group toward the west, back into the main entrance hall of the mountain fortress. While his companions wait in the corridor he moves into the center of the room.

Directly opposite the corridor that leads to the guest chambers, on the west wall, stands an enormous statue. It is so tall, in fact, that Draxim can only see up to its chest with his enhanced vision. He can see, however that it is an armored figure wielding what could be a spear or staff. Around the base of the statue is a semicircular pool. The liquid within the pool appears to pass through a narrow gap in the west wall of the chamber, flow around the feet of the statue, and disappear back into wall. The liquid makes no sound, but is definitely moving... albeit slowly.

To the north Draxim can clearly see a long table suitable for little folk (humans, elves, dwarves) to sit at it. The table has been badly abused and although it still stands has been hacked and defiled into uselessness by the broo. The surrounding furniture, which might have been chairs and side tables, have also been ruined and lay in smashed bits all over the floor. Draxim can smell the faint whiff of excrement.

At the limit of his vision, Draxim can see another wide hallway disappear into darkness in the center of the north wall of the chamber.

Draxim returns to the group and reports his findings.

Re: The Hall of the Mountain Grill
After listening to the young dwarf's whispered report Atan gives him the OK. He then points at Draxim and then off North into the darkness, followed by walking his index and middle finger up the back of his hand ending with all five fingers extended palm out. Scout the north passage, five minutes ahead and come back.

As Draxim once again moves off, Atan motions for everyone to spread out as they slowly move through the hall towards the North passage.

Warily he approaches the pool to investigate, expecting to find Broo waste fouling the water.

[Atan is constantly scanning stopping to periodically listen for any anomlies or things of interest(Spot +6, Listen +6). He will again check the water to see if it is useable (look, sniff, sip) (wilderness lore take 10). If so he will top off his half full skin and fill the extra he is carrying.]

Re: The Hall of the Mountain Grill
[Ruig has a lantern. Who else has a light source?]

With the group loitering around the center of the chamber Atan moves into the shadows and inspects the pool. It appears to be clean water, probably from some mountain spring high above. The gaps in the wall that allow the water to flow into the pool (and back out again) are each about six inches high and eight feet wide. Atan finds no evidence of corruption, which is not surprising since broo avoid moving water... even water as calm as this. He fills his waterskin and returns to the group.

Re: The Hall of the Mountain Grill
Madragar follows into the hall at Atan's back, lugging the ladder by himself, since Draxim is scouting. He looks about eagerly with the remainder of his detect magic.

Kezib and Madragar carry the ladder. Draxim never carried the ladder.]]

Atan holds up his filled waterskins to show the party the water is good. "Fill up.", he whispers.

Re: The Hall of the Mountain Grill
Meneloss fills up his waterskin as well murmuring a swift prayer to Orlanth:

"O mighty Lightbringer,
Thank you for this gift
of pure water.
Its virtue unspoiled by the Enemy,
It will give me strength
to carry the light in this dark place."

Re: The Hall of the Mountain Grill
After filling his waterskin Meneloss takes a deep draught. In the light of Ruig's lantern (he too is filling his two waterskins), the elven wizard tips back his head to take in the ice cold liquid and gazes up at the immense statue. The figure stands with its feet together, one hand hidden behind a large oval shield and the other gripping the haft of a long spear. He is bearded and his head is surrmounted by a crown-like circlet.

Ruig looks up as well. "Orlanth, I'd say. The water... the spear... yes, Orlanth."

there was this GI Joe cartoon which...
[reminded me of something:]

Meneloss feels comforted by the presence of the mighty statue representing the Lord of Water and Wind. He thinks back to the complicated lock and suddenly he has an idea.

He confers with Madragar and Sangraal:

"After we have completed this quest, I think we should try the door once again. I wonder if there are other statues of the gods in Koreaus's abode. This water may be part of the key."

He takes another draught from the waterskin and tops off again.

I'm NOT getting that wrong. Draxim and Kezib are the SAME PERSON! That's why you never see them together!

Water
Replying to Meneloss, Madragar says "Clearly, there is a way to open that door, and I think we were onto it. If Ruig is right, then the purpose of the illusory gods was to warn away those who fear them. Perhaps we should not tinker with the door unless it appears to be a direct part of our mission here."

"I admit that the thought of what might be beyond that door turned my head, too. But now...perhaps we should be satsifed with the mission itself...and our lives."

Statue
Impressed by the stone likeness of the first son of Yelm Sangraal says a respectful chant as he fills up his waterskin. "Caller of the wind, Herald of the sea...."

[OOC: Sangraal inspects the statue closely to see if there is any clue on it which would link it to the puzzle door.]

[What would a clue linking the statue to the puzzle door look like? -GM]

Re: Old Kurlew, Part IV
While the group fills their waterskins and considers the enormous statue to the god of waters, Draxim scouts ahead. He creeps through an arched hallway in the center of the north wall of the chamber about sixty feet to another high ceilinged hall.

Like the main hall to the south, this place is fairly simple in its construction, supported by numerous semi-circular stone columns along its length. There are no decorations or adornments of any kind as far as Draxim can see, and the entire chamber seems strangely empty.

Keeping his eyes and ears open for unnamable horrors that might jump out of the shadows, Draxim reaches the center of the hall. To the east and west stand arched hallways disappearing into darkness. To the north stands another statue surrounded by a pool of slowly moving liquid. From what little he can see of it from fifty feet away it appears identical to the statue in the main hall.

Draxim is about to advance northward to take a closer look but stops dead in his tracks. A sharp, grating sound reaches his ears. It came from the west and sounded like something metal scraping or striking stone. Draxim listens, waits, and the sound comes again. This time it is a double sound, clang-clang, and is definitely some metal tool striking stone.

Draxim carefully creeps back to the group.
